1 Claim.
The object of the present invention relates to a method of fixing or mounting so called telescopic cocks on the front wall of drawn metal containers, cans or drums, such as are used for the transportation of liquids of all kinds.
The inventive and essential feature of the present invention is that the spinning in or rolling on process known per se, is used in connection with this method of mounting the discharge cock on these drums or cans, in the manner hereafter more clearly specified.
In the appended drawing several embodiments of the various methods and means of mounting the cock on said drums or cans are shown.
According to Fig. l, the neck ring (or socket ring) 2 is stamped and bent outwardly out of the front wall I of a so called dead (mandrel) drawn container for transporting liquids. This ring 2 may be of a cylindrical or conical shape. The guide ring 4 is pushed in or forced in, according to the French patent specifications 701,251 and 689,990, into the inner opening of the above mentioned neck ring or socket 2 for the telescoping cock, also according to said French patent specifications and not shown in the appended drawing. The edge lying on the outside is there upon folded, rolled or spun around the edge 3 thus forming a thoroughly rigid member, which 7 can only be bent apart or separated by destroying one of its component parts I, 2 or 4.
In all the text following hereafter the same reference numerals denote the same parts or members, which are not described repeatedly. Any differences existing in the component parts designated with the same reference numerals will be duly pointed out.

In Fig. 4 the same occurs only the neck collar or band 2 is in this case conically expanded.

The embodiments or constructional forms of the invention may of course be modified in any suitable manner.

drums or cans having only one single opening. By means of this novel method of mounting the telescopic discharge cock on the container, the cock or spout being provided with it, any unauthorized repeated filling of the sheet metal container is made quite impossible, because any unauthorized interference with the unit of container and cock is plainly recognizable, and to repair or properly renew such a connection of the cock to the drum or can would be more expensive than to buy a new drum and this apart from the fact that the cock would, when dismantling or trying to remove it from the drum, be rendered useless. The parts or edges spun or rolled into one another may also be caused to make a better joint by using suitable adhesive. So as to cause theoutflow of the'liquid from the container it is of'course necessary to drill a-small hole into the drum or can to act as an air vent. This air vent hole can of course be indicated in a suitable manner, as to its location on the drum or can, previously, as it is drawn. The object of this new method of fixing the discharge cock on the container is to make it necessaryto destroy the container after it has been emptied, a fact which is very'important when thecontainers are provided with trade-marks or the like stamped or impressed thereon. Thereforeas soon as it is shown by the impaired state of the connection of the cock to the can, or that it has been surreptitiously repaired or that a hole or air vent has been made, it is proved that the container has been illegally refilled and tampered with.
The new jointing member may also be provided with a safety seal or capsule so as to protect it during its transport from the manufacturer to the distributor or retailer, or it might be coated with a suitable varnish, whereby it is easy to protect the cock head part 2 or 8 of the above mentioned French patent specifications from in- I terference.
