DISPENSING APPARATUS Earl E. Eickmeyer and :GeorgeW. Eichhofi, Dayton, ,Ohio,. assignorsto- The Dayton. Pump &.
Mfg. Company, Dayton, Ohio, at
of Ohio corporation.
3 Claims. (Cl. 312-117) mobile so that the occupants may view the artil cles to be purchased while seated in the-auto mobile during the period the car is being filled with oil and gasoline dispensed from our apparatus. I
It is afurther object to provide a cabinet in which the liquid dispensing apparatus protects and supportsthe frame and glass panels constituting the doors of the cabinet for dispensing bottled goods, such as oil, liquid refreshments,
and the like.
1 I It is our. object to provide in this combination means forv cooling the contents of this cabinet for summer and heating them in the winter.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation;
Figure 2 is a vertical section;
Figure 8 is a detail section through one wall of the cabinet;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-- l of Fig-,
Figure is a view similar to Figure 3 showing the arrangement of the opopsite side of the cabinet wall.
Referring to the drawings in detail, I represents the foundation or the ground. Upon this foundation are mounted suitable pump casings having bases 2, vertical columns 3, caps 4 and illuminated display signs 5. These several parts together constitute the pump casing. In the view shown there are three of such pump casings. There may be one or more.
Interposed between and supported by the pump casings is a dispensing cabinet comprising end walls 6 and 1 between which are mounted trays B, 9 and it. The tray ill may have a completely closed surface on one side over the compressor l! and a foraminous body as at E2 on the other side so that the air from the fan It in the compartment It may circulate through the compartment l5 and the compartment l6 when the platform 9 is also a mesh work to permit of the circulation of air. Both the fan [3 and compressor II are mounted upon the base plate H. The side walls 6 and I are embraced between the bases 2 of the pump casings and are held in position thereby. The tops of these side walls 6 and 'l are held in position by the braces l8..located between the'tops of the sidewalls 6 and 1 and. the
,. tops of the casings 3 forthe pumps.
On top .of the pump casings and enclosing the.- top of the dispensing cabinet formed bythe'side walls Sand '1 isa coverplate IShaving-a decorative cover 26.. This decorative-covenmay be supported on the cap members 4,:either by Weld? ing, bolting orby suitable brackets 2i. Thecover lil forms the top of a tire cabinet 22,.in the dispensing cabinet for the tire 23;.whichcan be seen through the glass doors 24 having the frames 25...which are hinged. to a cover plate 26 which.
forms one side of the decorative frame on the outside wall of .the cabinet. A similar strip; 21
to provide adoor jamb is provided on. the other. On theside of the cabinet.
side ofthe cabinet. is mounted at the base a base. plate 28 ofldecorative character and aplurality of spaced trans-.. verse door jamb members 29. Swinging doors 302..
are .providedfor enclosing the several comparte ments M, I5 and I6. Within these compartments refrigeration may be supplied from the compressor H by the coils 3|. The air circulating through the compartments will circulate over these coils and provide means for maintaining food products in a proper condition for dispensing to the motorists along side of the dispensing apparatus, which is the subject of this invention, at the same time he is receiving his gasoline from one of the pump structures enclosed within the housing 3.
The dial of the pump structure is indicated at 32 and the dispensing hose at 33 controlled by the dispensing valve 34.
Turning to Figures 3, 4 and 5, where the de-' tails of the cabinet are more clearly disclosed, it will be noted that between the side walls 6 and I there are mounted transverse angle iron members 35 which serve to support the floor plates or separators 8, 9 and H) in conjunction withangle irons 36 running fore and aft along the side walls 6 and l.
The base plate 28 is adapted at 28a to overlap the angle iron 35 while the partition member overlaps at Ma the vertical portion of the angle iron 35. Thus is formed a door jamb over the strip 29 which forms a part of the door. The
glass is designated 29a and is held within the frame 3!). The door may be hinged at its end on the side frames 21.
By this arrangement, a neat, smooth surface of nickel-plated or chromium-plated door frames 36 carrying theglass 29a is provided. The contents of the cabinets thus formed can be readily seen by the motorist seated in his car along side of the cabinet suggesting to him the purchases that he can or should make.
On the other side, the cabinet of similar construction is provided with a combined fan l3 and a heating element l3a for circulating heated air throughout the compartments l5 and IS in order to prevent the contents from freezing during winter and to preserve the bottles of lubricating oil and grease at a proper temperature for immediate application to the automobiles receiving supplies at the station.
It should be particularly noted that the easings 3 act as enclosing and positioning barriers for protecting and aligning dispensingcabinets, that the cabinets have doors on one or both sides, preferably the latter, and that the overlapping cap plate 9 with the spacer members 18 ties the cabinets into position between the vertical casings 3 of the pumps.
The cabinet structure broadly consists of end plates, such as 6 and 1, having angle iron shelf members 36 connected at their free ends by the angle iron members 35, in the angles of which the vertical face plates, such as 28, and the shelves 8, 9 and l l] have their turned-over ends mounted. This also forms an angular abutting surface for the swinging free edge of the door of the cabinet.
Although we use thin sheet metal of light weight and of minimum strength, relatively heavy door frames and plate glass doors may be employed and safely operated, and, at the same time, the light sheets used for the cabinet may be used without the sacrifice of adequate strength.
- It will be noted that some of the members 35 are T-shaped as at 35a in order to accommodate the top of one door and the bottom of the other door, but the principle remains the same. By this arrangement doors with flush faces can be employed.
It will be noted that we desire to comprehend within our invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination, a pair of spaced dispensing pump casings, a dispensing cabinet embraced therebetween, a cover therefor overlapping the top of said cabinet to close it and overlapping the tops of the pump casings, and cap members on said pump casings adapted to embrace and support the ends of said cover.
2. In combination, a pair of spaced casings for liquid dispensing pumps comprising a base casing, a pump casing and a capital casing, a dispensing cabinet therebetween having and walls, the bottoms of which engage the base casings and the tops of which are spaced from the tops of the pump casings, spacer members therebetween, a common overlapping cap member enclosing the top of the dispensing cabinet formed by said end walls and part of the tops of the pump casings engaging the sides of the capital casings, a plurality of shelves in said dispensing casings between the end Walls and swinging doors therefor.
3. In a dispensing cabinet, dispensing pump casings forming end walls, angle iron shelf supporting members on said walls, shelves of sheet material on the supporting members, angle iron members connecting said end walls to one another forming supports for said shelves, and abutments for swinging doors and swinging doors pivoted on one of the casings so formed to form front and rear Walls thereof, and a cap member mounted on the top angle iron members extending between the end walls.
