Description

S I ZING APPARATUS Filed March 10, 1954 Patented Apr. 9, 1935 UNI ED s'r-Arss l te PARAT Harry lin r, Greenville, s.-o.
Ap ic io a c 0,
6 Claims.
,Thisinvention relates to a sizing apparatusand more especially to means for sizing warps so,
that the selvedge threads will not be sized .to as great an extent as the other warp threads. It is of course evident that if the selvedge threads, which are much larger than the other threads,
are passedthrough'th'e. sizing solution that .they' will not dry as quickly as the other yarn and if sufficient heat is applied to the yarns to. dry the selvedgethreads the smaller threads will become damaged on account of excessive heat being appliedthereto. j.
It is anobject of this invention to provide means whereby selvedge threads in a -warproll a given width. In various types of cloth this width of selvedgevaries andI have provided means for receiving the selvedge'threads which are long enough to receive any desired width of' selvedg e threads,"within given limits, though-"it is evident that insome warps the selvedge threads would not cover the entire portion of the corru gated tubes provided for accommodating the same.
It isanother object of this invention to pro; vide means for sizing warp rolls and giving to the selvedgethreads a proper amount of sizing and regulating the tension on the'selvedge and theother threads so that the same can be adjusted simultaneously. -Means are also provided for accommodating the selvedge threads, said means comprisingia plurality of corrugated rollers over whi'ch-theselvedge threads are adapted 'to pass to prevent the selvedge' threads from creeping in-* .,wardly towards thecenter of the warp.
Itisa'further object of this invention to provide sizingapparatus in which means are providedfor receivingthe selvedgethreads and passa ing them through the sizing apparatus but not through the sizing bath and also means for passing the other portions of the warp through the sizing bath and then bringing the selvedge threads and the warp threads together through a pair of rolls so that these rolls will supply the necessary amount of sizing to the selvedge threads and the warp threads will receive their sizing. from being subjected to the sizing bath, together with means for preventing lateral displacement of the selvedge threads and also means for simultaneously adjusting the tension applied to the selved'ge 1934, swarm; 714,991 (01. 28-28) threads and the otherwarp ,threadswhen the immersion roll is raised or loweredin the size box;
I Some of the objects of the inventionhaying been stated, other objects will appearas the description proceeds, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:-;
fF-igure 1 is a vertical, section of a sizing y -showing..rny inventionapplied thereto; 2 V
' Figure 2 is a vertical section takenalong the.
line 2 -2 in Figure 1; but'showing both sides of the sizing apparatus;v h; I
Figure 3isa longitudinalsectional view taken along the line 3-'3-in'Figjure 1.
Referringmore specifically to the drawing the numeral. I0. indicates a suitable sizing vat ina: 5
suitable sizing apparatus. A suitable sizing ,.ap paratus usually has let-ofi warprollll and a plurality of heating drums l2 for drying theyvarp together with take =.up means. disposed. Yfar'ther tothe right in Figure 1', butnot shown as they. are'conventional. The conventional sizing. apparatus also has .a roll (and a plurality of pairs of squeezefrolls Id, i5, l 6 and" through whichthe, warpthreadsi are passed after being immersed inthe sizingi fluid, The sizing fluid. can .befof 'anydesired, depth in sizing vat II) but islshown as havingal top level as atlfl. V A suitable immersion roll-,2!) is. provided usually in a'sizing apparatus, but; have provided means for, mounting the immersion rollcompris ingfbrackets 2| andzlfdisposedat each end'of' the'immersion roll '2fl and 'invwhich the immersion roll 26 is. rotatably mounted. Each of these. brackets 2| and 21' has ,a shaft22 passing there through which has on eachen'd thereof arms 23 and ,23', in the free 'end'of. which is mounted a shaft 24 and onfshaft24gi's rotatably mount-1 ed corrugated brass sleeyes' 25 and 25. Brackets 2i and 2! have fixedly secured thereto racks: 25 and 2B whichare adaptedtohave sliding]; movement in guideways 21 and 21" formed integral with brackets 28and 28",Which are fixedly secured on the top. edgeofthe sizingvat I0.
Brackets 28 and. 28"fflhaveirotatably inounted f Securedon one side of the upper edge of the sizing vat I0 is a T-shaped bracket 35 having a horizontal portion 36 in the ends of which are mountedrods 31 and 38 on which are rotatably mounted corrugated sleeves 39 over which one side of the selvedge threads are adapted to pass. The other side of the sizing vat' has an identi- 'vedge threads disposed along the ends thereof cal structure indicated by the same reference characters 35 to 39 inclusive with the prime notation added and hence the description of the same is notdeemed necessary. The corrugations on sleeve 25 and the like are circumferentially disposed. V v V The warp threads 4| are smaller in size than the selvedge threads and hence .the' selvedge threads cannot be immersed in the sizing solution and then dried as quickly as the smaller threads; Therefore, the selvedge threads are posed grooves on the tubes or rollers prevent the selvedge threads from moving inwardly towards the warp threads.
In the drawing and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of my inventiomand although specific termsarefemployed, they are used in a genericand descrip- -tive sense only-and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the appended claims. I claim:
