-In mines, in particular, it is often desirable to extend a' track quickly,-wh'ereby a'car maybe l beyond the primary track, for engagingtheextension or auxiliary track and fastening the same securely to a tie of the roadbed.
A still further object of my invention is the construction of a novel auxiliary clamping de vice, which engages the rail, or rails, of the extensionor auxiliary. track, and which clamping device is fixedly secured by preferably a spike through a tie; this clamping device eliminating a number of ties and a number of spikes, performing in itself, the function of the same.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fullydescribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, I desig-, nates the primary track and 2 is the extension secured by spikes 6 to the ties 4. The auxiliary track comprises the rails .-I laid on their sides,
with the tread of the rails bearing against the webs of the permanent or fixed rails 5, as clearly shownin Fig. 2. I preferably use two of the primary clamping devices I9 on each two engaging rails 5 and I, Fig. 1. This produces a very durable structure for holding said rails in an adjusted position, since the rails I are slidably adjustable against or webs of rails 5. V
It is necessary to anchor or fasten, beyondthe ends of rails 5, the rails I. of the auxiliary track. Therefore, to efficiently accomplish this, and to The upper end of eye bolt I3 is threaded,
the sides save time as well as eliminate a number of ties 1 and correspondingly a number of spikes, I use my eflicient auxiliary clamping device I8. This device comprises claw bolt .I I, with the claw I2 turned downwardly, as shown in Fig. 3. Mounted on claw bolt II is primary jaw I9. Thisprimary jaw I9 comprises a vertical body 20 having a right angled flanged upper end 2I and a bifurcated outwardly-extending flanged end 22. In the bifurcation of end 2I, I place preferablya spike 23. The head of the spike rests upon end 22, with most of its shank in the bifurcation. The claw I 2 of the claw bolt II 'of this device is hooked under the head of the spike and then by tightening on nut 2311, the boltis tightly engaged, preventing creeping or displacement of rails I, and only requiring one clamping device I8,be-- yond the end of the primary track I, for each 12 i i "i rail'l; This is a very simple and efiicient fastening means for the auxiliary or extension track, whereby it is secured to a single tie.
In the clamping device lo, the claw l2 on claw bolt ll, constitutes the rail-clamping or engaging element, whereasin'the clamping device l8 the jaw IS on claw bolt H constitutes the railclamping or engaging means.
While I have described the preferred embodi-. ment ofmy invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates. during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I,
therefore reserve the right to make such changes f or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scop'eb of the appended claims. 7 V

In a device of-the class described, the com-v bination of a claw bolt provided with means for clamping a portion of a rail, an eye bolt slidably mounted on said claw bolt, a jaw for clamping a portion of a rail on said eye belt, a nut on said claw bolt against saideyeboltQand a nut'on said eye bolt against said jam 2. In adeviceof the class described, the combination ofa claw bolt'providedwith means for clamping a portion of a rail,-an eye bolt slidably' mounted-on said claw bolt, a plate-like jaw provided with a downwardly-extending bifurcated edge for receiving a-portion of a rail, said jaw mounted upon said eye bolt, =a nuton said eye bolt against said jaw, and a nut onsaid claw bolt against said eye bolt. i V j 3.
