" 6Claims. (01. 101 131 My invention relates to duplicating stamps of the type operable by hand generally through a rockingmotion.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and eiflcient duplicating stamp.
A'fur'ther object of theinvention is to provide a stamp of the character mentioned in which the duplicating means proper consists of a gelatinous surface of the heotograph type.
Another object of the invention is to provide in a stamp of the type mentioned means wherein agelatinous duplicating surface may be readily interchangeable with another similar surface, so that when worn or for any other reason not immediately available, it may be replaced by a newduplicating surface ready for immediate operation. 1
A still further object of the invention is to provide in connection with a stamp of the type mentioned simple and efficient allocating means whereby impressions produced by said stamp may be accurately placed withrespect to the sheets upon which successive impressions are made so that the several copies may be of uniform justiflcation and appearance.
Further objects of my invention will appear from the following. detailed description thereof:

Figure 1 is a section of a duplicating stamp and allocating member or pan constructed in accordance with this invention taken on line I-I of Figure 2.
Figure 2 is a top view of the stamp and allocatmg pan.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the stamp and pan indicating the means of operation.
The numeral l indicates a metal base plate of arcuate section. Centrally located in the base plate! is a socket 2 within which a pin 31s rigidly secured. A short distance above the socket 2 the pin is provided witha collar 4, the free end of the pin extending upwardly beyond the collar and being threaded as shown at 5 to receive a handle 6 which screws on to said pin. Adapted to be mounted on the plate l is a spring plate I having upwardly and inwardly turned flanges B8 which are adapted to form grooves arranged freely to receive the edges of plate I. Plate 1 while slightly curved is of less normal curvature than plate I so that the plates may be held rigidly together when assembled by means of the tension of plate '1, whereby its flanges are firmly pressed against the upper surfaces of plate I along its edges. Plate I is provided with a gelatinous surface or face 9, the material used-being'preferably that employed in hectograph duplicating devices, the samebeing a material well known and "in common use. Said gelatinous'material is x secured to plate 1 by any suitable adhesive as for 5 instance shellac or glue, or may be molded on said plate.

Plate I8 is provided with a lateral extension I3 having an upwardly clined terminal edge I4. The numeral I5 indicates a plate adapted to fit the under side of X-.. tension I3 of plate I0 and tobe secured thereto I by any suitable means. Plate l5 has a downwardly extendingportion I6 terminatingin an angularly disposed flange I'I arranged to rest against the upper side of plate I on the opposite side of pin 3 from flange I2. Secured to the under side of plate I5 at the angle formed by the terminal edge I 4 are spherical studs I8, said studs being arranged to cooperate with depressions in the allocating member or pan next to be described.
The numeral Ill indicates the base of a rec-, tangular pan which has a rear wall 29 terminating in a horizontal section 2|, and a supporting flange 22; The horizontal section 2| is provided with sockets or depressions 23 for the spherical studs 58. The pan is further provided with a 35 short side wall 24, adjacent the rear wall 20 and extending forwardly from the left end thereof.
The use and operation of my new duplicating stamp and allocating means are as follows:
The plate I, handle and connecting portions being assembled as shown in Figures 1 and 3,

slipped on plate I by means of compressing plate 1 along the chord of its are so that it corresponds substantially with the arc of plate I. Plate I may then be slid easily into its proper position on palte I. When so positioned, release of plate I will cause it to spring to its original shape causing the flanges 88 to engage firmly the upper surfaces of the edges of plate I. Plate I with the gelatinous face is thereby fixedly secured in assembly with the other elements of the stamp. The gelatinous surface having been provided with the matter to be duplicated through the absorption by the gelatin of the printing ink in the manner long familiar for the operation of the hectograph, the operation of duplication is per formed as follows:
A stack of sheets or cards 25 is placed in the allocating member or pan with the rear edges of the sheets abutting against the rear wall and the left side edges abutting against the short wall;
24; all of the sheets or cards are thus uniformly located in the pan. Proper placement of the stamp is then effected by locating the spherical studs l8 in thedepressions 23 of the pan. Suc cessive copies are made merely by rocking the stampv forward into contact with the several sheets as presented, reallocation of the stamp being effectually accomplished after each impres-- sion by the centering of the spherical studs in the depressions as will be apparent.
As will be understood the owner and operator, of a stamp constructed in accordance with this invention may be supplied with any number of spring plates withgelatinous surfaces needed to meet his normal requirements, such plates being inexpensive and readily interchangeable.
Having thus, fully described my invention, what I claim as new'land desire to secure by Letters Patent is: e .f

3. A duplicatingstamp of the character mentioned comprising an arcuate plate, a second plate removably secured to said arcuate plate, means for the operation of said plates, allocating means carried by said second plate, a spring plate of less curvature than said arcuate plate, flanges along edges of said spring plate adapted to receive edges of said'arcuate plate, and a gelatinous surface permanently secured to said spring plate.
4. A duplicating stamp of the character mentioned comprising a plate, a second plate removably secured to said plate, means for the operation of said plates, allocating means carried by said second plate, a gelatinuous surface permanently secured to said first plate, a pan for holding sheets-to be stamped, and allocating means carried by said pan arranged to cooperate with the allocating means on said stamp.

A duplicating stamp of the character men tioned comprising an arcuate plate, asecond plateremovably secured to said arcuate plate, means for the operation of said plates, allocatingmeans carried by said second plate, a spring plate of less curvature than said arcuate plate, flanges along edges of said spring plate adapted to receive edges of said arcuate plate, a gelatinous surface permanently secured to said spring plate, a pan for holding sheetsto be stamped, and allocating means carried by said pan arranged to cooperate with the allocating means on said stamp.

In combination with a duplicating stamp, a pan for holding sheets to be stamped, said pan comprising a base, a rear wall, a short side wall at one end of said rearwall said rear and side walls serving as rear and lateral stops for said sheets, a horizontal section formed with said rear wall, and allocating means carried by said horizontal section. 1
