Application June 11,1934, serialE4 The invention relates to reversible signs and has for its object to provide a device of. this character comprising a sign body formed from a plurality of sections or panels pivoted together` on a vertical pivotal axis and adapted to be reversed for changing the displayV indicia thereon as desired. Also to obviate the use of hollow channels at the upper and lower edges of the sections, thereby simplifying the construction and allowing the device to be cheaply manufactured and sold.
A further object is to provide the hanging signsections with angularly disposed iianges at .their adj acentsides and interengaged non-round dished portions carried bythe flanges and pivoted together and forming means for maintaining the sign sections in the same vertical plane as the sign upon reversing any of the sections, andY also to space the bottoms of the dished portions apart whereby sufficient spring action will be provided for allowing the reversing operation.y
A further object is to reinforce the flanges ofthe sign sections by folding the same onto each other,thereby providing slide receiving means.
Arfurther object is to provide aphanging signi comprising a plurality of reversible pivotally connected sections, pivoted on a vertical central axis and one of the edges of each signsection with a horizontal flange extending beyond opposite sides of the sections and bent upon itself and having a longitudinal groove in which the adjacent por-- tions of adjacent sign sections are received vand are held in the plane of the sign upon the reversal of any of the sign sections.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrange'-v ment of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. l f f In the drawings:

VBy making the struclrdown` portions 6 off-round'and-nesting only when the sign sections 4are-in the'same plane, it is obvious that when they are 'in interengagement the 'sectionswillbe ,positively held in the same vertical plane.r v` It' vwill be' noted that the struck down portions have bevelled engaging surfaces 'l as clearly` shown lin Figure- 4, hence they will cam out in relation to each other. By placing the interengaging struck down portions 6 at the pivotal points of the sections I, it will be obvious that they can be easily disengaged by the operator grasping the outer end of a particular section and rotating the sections as there will be a relatively long leverage on the interengaging point, hence danger of bending the sign is obviated, as is the difficulty with devices at present constructed. If desired insertable slides 8 may be'provided for the sign for increasing the range of indicia display on the sign, or for special sales.
Referring to Figures 5, 6, and '7 wherein the removable slide 8 is shown, the operation vand use of this form is substantially the same as that shown in Figure 1 with the exception ofthe use of slides 8. and 4a are provided with inturned anges 9, which extend towards the body of the sign sections I and terminate short thereof so as to receive the inwardly and outwardly extending anges I Il ofthe slides 8, hence it will be seen otherwise the operation and construction is the rialjat I2 onto the ang'es II and extending beyond the rear of the sections with the longitudinal bend I3 forming'achannel, in which'the bottom edges I4'of the sections spring, and are held after a reversing operation.' It willbe noted 40' that the bottom edges I4 are provided with stiffening iianges I5 bent on the rear sides of the' section and with outwardly struck portions I6 forming chambers I'I,-'through the bottoms of which the pivot rivets I 8 extend, therefore it will From the above it'will be seen that a hanging reversible sign is provided which is simple in construction, the parts reduced 'toa minimum, and one wherein the pivot rivets extend through interengaged off-round portions of lthesign sections which linterengaged portions maintain the sign sections in the Vsame vertical plane when they are rotated. It will Valso be seen by referring to Figures 5 ,and 7 thatiwhen the sign sections are rotated, the slides 8 on the rear sides thereof will assume a position in thesame planeas the sign sections thereby maintaining the same general appearance of the front side'of the sign after a reversing operation.
The invention having been set forth whatis claimed as new and useful is:
1. A reversible hangingV sign comprising a plurality of pivotally connected sectionsfianges car-` ried by the adjacent engaging sidesof the sections, said flanges havingplvot means extending therethrough on a vertical axis and means carried by the flanges and surrounding the`pivotmeans and forming means whereby the sign sections will be maintained in the samer vertical plane upon reversing of the signsections.` Y

wardly from the upper and lower edges thereof, the flanges of adjacent sections engaging each other, Vertical pivot members extending through the engaging flanges on the same vertical axis, of interengaging means between the engaging flanges and surrounding the pivot means and forming means whereby when any of the sections are reversed the sign sections will be maintained in the same vertical plane.
3. A device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the interengaging means comprises members struck from the engaging flanges and in nesting relation.
4. A device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the enterengaging means between the flanges comprises integral struck out members having chambers with bottoms in nesting vrelation with their bottoms in spaced relation whereby said bottoms may ilex upon initial and final rotation of a section for ,releasing the rotated section and for holding the'rotated section in the v` plane of the sign'aftera rotationthereof. 5. A device as setforth in claim 2 including struck out nested interengaging means around the pivotal meansand means carried by the iianges for receiving slides.
6. A hanging sign comprising a plurality of reversible sections, engaging flanges carried by the engaging edges'of the sign sections, registering nested struck out portions carried by the engagingiiang'es and with their bottoms in spaced relation and a pivot member'k extending through said nesting member bottoms centrally thereof.
7. A device vas set forth in'claim 6 wherein the nested struck out members are-off-round shape. l 8. A reversible sign comprising a plurality of pivotally connected reversible sign sections, the adjacent edges of the sign sections being provided with engaging outwardly extending'anges on one side 0f the sign sections, pivotal connections between saidiianges out of the plane of the sign sections, the outer ends of the flanges terminating in inwardly extending ange's engaging the inner sides thereof ,1 said last named flanges forming slide receiving means and slides in said slide receiving means. 1 A
9. A device as set forth in claim 8 wherein the slides are in the plane of the outer ends of the flangesand means carried by the slides and 'cooperating with the inner edges of the inwardly extending fianges for holding `the slides in position. f
10. A device as set forth in ,claimv wherein the slides are in theplane of thev outer edges of the flanges and the pivotal means between the sections intermediate the signs and the slides whereby whenthevsign sections are rotated the slide will beinthe' plane of the sign sections.r
1l. A reversible sign comprising a plurality of reversible` sign sections in a vertical plane, vthe upper edges of the sign sections having flanges extending forwardly to the forward side of the sections and then bent upon themselves and ex.-
tending rearwardly of the sections and vhaving longitudinal channels` therein, the lowerends of the sections beingldisposed in the channels of the upper ends of the sections, said lower ends of the sections being bent upon themselves to reinforce the same, chambers formed in said bent portions ofthe lower ends of the sections and pivot members extending through said chambers and flanges of the upper ends of adjacent sections.
