I arrange centering means on therotatable portion of the machine, over which means the gear is slidable. I also arrange a centering means on the column for engaging the gear. When the machine is completelyassembled the gear is out of engagement with the 'last mentioned centering means, but it may be lowered so as to engage the same while still engaging the centering means on the rotatable part of the machine. In this manner the parts are accurately centered during installation or adjustment of the bearings.
