I My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in' a surgical the displacement is of appliance adapted primarily in treatment of subluxation or strain of the sacro-iliac articulation. The theory of the treatment of such subluxationor strain of the sacro-iliac articulationis well understoodby all physicians, osteopaths', chiropractors, etc. Sublusation or strain commonly results wrom a misplacement of the ilium, and in the treatment it is necessary to compress both iliac bones into the sacrum by forcing both hips backward towards or into the center of the back. This treatment may be done by manual manipulation, but where the strain or displacement has. existed over a prolonged period of time, and in some cases where short duration, the bones have a tendency to resume the disarranged position. V 7 r It is an object of the present invention to provide an appliance which may be secured to the body and which will serve as a' means for forcing or compressing the iliac bones into the sacrum and at the same time affording means for binding the Variousparts in their proper position.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an appliance of this class whereby the treatment referred to may be accomplished while at the same time the appliance may be'released to permit access to the sacral region'for adjustments and treatments when desired. 7 7

It is another object of the present invention-to provide an appliance of this class which will be easily and quickly applied in position and through which the proper compression may be transmitted to the body for effecting the re-arrangement of the disarranged parts.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an appliance of this class which will permit the patient to relieve the various parts of strain and compression when the use of the same is not desired, as for instance, when the patient is retiring for the night or is assuming for a considerable period of time a' position which will take the patient off his feet.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an appliance of this class whereby the amount of compression or strain may be adjusted so that 'as the treatment continues, the strain may be released from day to day, thus permitting the muscles and joints to gradually and naturally assume their normal functions.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an appliance whereby the strain exerted on both sides of the body is always equalized, thus assuring the proper compression at both sides of a'sacro-iliac appliance personfs body from the rear'showing theinven-' of the body and eliminating the possibility of dis-- 4 torting the body into an unnatural formor position. Another object of the invention isthe provision of an appliance whereby the relative strain'on the upper edges and lower. edges may be adjusted to suit necessary conditions. Another object of'the invention is the provision of an appliance of thisclass so arranged and constructed that discomfort to the wearer. is reduced .10 to a minimum, interference to the thigh when assuming a; sitting position is obviated and a-hardening or wrinkling of the appliance avoided, while at the same time a crackingor tearing; of'the skin is eliminated. 1 1 Another objectof the invention is the provision whereby the sacro-ilia'c' appliance may be positioned on a patient with a minimum amount of time and labor and with the greatest ease and accuracy. r 1

Another object of the invention is the provision Y whereby a sacrum pad may be used or dispensedfwith at will without necessitating'the complete removal of the appliance. e

The appliance comprises a pair of fabric, or skin portions '7 and 8, and in this connection it maybe noted that experience has. shown mole skin to be'a very. satisfactory material to use for this purpose, and inthis specificationand clairn'hereof, the word fabric is to be interpreted as to mean such material whether it be of a fabric or woven material as will serve the purposes and functions intended. In the drawing I have illustrated these portions provided with eyelets 9 through which a suitable lacing 10 may be projected. The purpose of the lacing is .to provide a means for adjustably connecting these ends of the parts together. The major portion of the body of the fabric portions '7 and 8, '55
