The locking pins 27 are connected to the safety bolts 22 for actuation thereby through the medium of bell crank levers 28 which also are mounted on the inner side of the plate 12.
The vertical side members of the frame 3 of the door 1 have mounted therein slotted plates 29 for the reception of the headed lugs 10 of the hinges 6. Metallic plates 30 are also provided on the upper and lower portions of the door frame 3 for engagement in the hooks 9 on the hinges 6.
Briefly, the operation of the door is as follows:
With the door 1 in closed position the locking bolts 13 are seated in the recesses 11 in the hinges 6, the headed lugs 10 are engaged in the slotted plates 29, and the hooks 9 are engaged behind the vertical plates 30 on the frame 3 and the door is thus mounted in closed position between the jambs 2. When in closed position, the frame 3 of the door maintains the latches 7 out of engagement with the hinges 6, as best seen in Figure 4 of the drawings; To open the door from either side one of the locking bolts 13 is, of course, retracted agains tthe tension of its respective spring 14, thus permitting that side of the door to be swung open. When one of the locking bolts 13 is thus retracted the stop bar 24 is shifted thereby into engagement with the other locking bolt 13. As the door is swung open and clears the adjacent hinge 6, the safety bolt 22 on that side of the door is moved outwardly by its respective spring 23 and the locking pin 27 which is connected thereto is moved downwardly behind the adjacent shoulder 26 on the stop bar 24, thus locking said other bolt 13 against retraction. In this manner it will be seen that disconnection of that side of the door which constitutes the pivot from its hinge 6 is positively prevented. When the door is again closed the safety bolt 22 on the free side of the door again rides up on the adjacent hinge 6 for elevating the respective locking pin 27, thereby releasing the stop bar 24 for permitting the door to be opened from the other side if desired. When one side of the door is swung open the hinge 6 on said one side is secured against swinging movement by the adjacent latches 7 which are permitted to move to operative position as the frame 3 of the door swings away therefrom. The locking bolts 13 may be secured in locked or projected position by moving the members 20 into the path of the depending lugs 15 on said bolts.
It is believed that the many advantages of a door constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:-
1. The combination with a pair of jamb members and a door engageable between said jamb members, of means for releasably mounting the door on said jamb members for swinging movement for permitting said door to be selectively opened from either side, said means including hinges mounted on the jamb members, headed lugs on the hinges, the door having slots therein for slidably receiving the lugs, and bolts mounted on the door and engageable with the hinge members for releasably securing the lugs in the slots, and yielding latches secured to each jamb and cooperating with the hinge mounted thereon for releasably securing the hinge in its folded position when the door is open.
2. In combination with a pair of jambs and a door engageable between the jambs, hinges mounted on the jambs, coacting means on the door and the hinges for releasably mounting the door selectively on the hinges, bolts slidably mounted in the door an dengageable with the hinges for locking the door thereto, a stop member mounted in the door and engageable with one of the bolts for securing said one bolt against retraction when the other bolt is retracted, and means for securing the stop member in operative position when the door is open, the last-named means including bolts slidably mounted in the door and engageablewiththe hinges for actuation to inoperative position thereby, locking pins engageable with the stop member, means operatively connecting the locking pins to the secondnamed bolts for actuation {to operative position thereby, resilient means for actuating the second-named bolts to operative position when said second-named bolts are disengaged from the hinges, and yielding latches secured to each jamb and cooperating with the hinge mounted thereon for releasably securing the hinge in its folded position when the door is open.
3. The combination with a pair of door jamb members and a door engageable between said members, of hinge means mounted on each jamb, coacting means on the door and hinges for releasably mounting the door selectively on the hinges, yielding latches secured to each jamb and cooperating with the hinge mounted thereon for releasably securing the hinge in folded position when the door is open, door locks, one mounted on each side of the door, an operating handle mounted on each lock and safety bolts extending between the locks and cooperating therewith to maintain one of the locks inoperative while the other is in operation.
4. The combination with a pair of door jamb members and a door engageable between said members,of hinge means mounted on each jamb, coacting means on the door and hinges for releasably mounting the door selectively on the hinges, yielding latches secured to each jamb and cooperating with the hinge mounted thereon for releasably securing the hinge in folded position when the door is open, door locks, one mounted on each side of the door, an operating handle mounted on each lock and safety bolts extending between the locks and cooperating therewith to maintain one of the locks inoperative while the other is in operation, and stop members carried by each lock for fastening the door in locked position to prevent unauthorized opening of the door.
