We Mf N PETERS, PHOYO-LITNOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN P. OOMLING, OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, ASSIGNOR TO NEW YORK ORE SEPARATING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
' IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR COLLECTING DUST FROM ORE-SEPARATORS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,267, dated January 15, 1878; application filed March 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN P. GONKLING, of Saratoga Springs, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Collecting Dust from Ore-Separators and other Machines,
which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a sectional side view of this apparatus.
This invention consists in the combination of a flaring hood, a suction-pipe, a fan-blower, a dust-escape situated in a downwardly-inclined position, a perforated pipe extending through the center of the inclined dust-escape pipe, and a tank for collecting the dust and water passing down through and out of the inclined dust-escape pipe, so that by means of the flaring hood the apparatus can be readily adjusted over the machine from which rises the dust to be collected, and that the dust is conducted by said hood to the suction-pipe, thence through the blower-case into the dustescape pipe, where the same, by contact with jets of water issuing from the perforated pipe, is precipitated, and caused to flow, together with the water, down into the receiving-tank, while the pure air is free to escape from the open end of the dust-escape pipe.
The drawingrepresents a sectional side view of this apparatus.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a fan-blower, the suction-spout of which connects by a pipe, D, with a flaring hood, E, while its discharge-spout connects with a pipe, B, which is situated in a downwardly-inclined position, and the open end of which is placed over a tank, F. In the interior of the escapepipe B is situated a perforated pipe, 0, which is closed at its inner end, while its outer end connects with a reservoir containing Water, and situated above the level of the said pipe, so that when the connection is opened a number of fine jets escape from the perforations of said pipe. The flaring hood E is placed over the machine from which the dust rises, and by the action of the fan-blower the dust is drawn in through the escape-pipe B.
In its passage through this pipe the dust meets the jets of water escaping from the perforated pipe 0, whereby the same is precipitated, and caused to flow, together with the water, through the inclined pipe B into the tank F, while the pure air escapes from the open end of said inclined pipe.
By means of the flaring hood E, I am enabled to adjust my apparatus in the proper position over the machine from which rises the dust, and this dust is readily collected in the tank F.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
In an ore-separator, the apparatus herein set hay e hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of March, 1876.
