An ironing machine comprising a gear-housing with gearing therein, an external gear driven therefrom, a tubular ironing -roll comprising a perforated metallic shell and padding therearound, a tube rigidly mounted in the gear housing and extending therefrom a distance less than the length of the roll -and disposed within and axially of the roll, aclosure disk for the end of the roll adjacent the gear housing and formed witlrsan internal gear meshing with the said external gear, a bearing disk mounted within the roll intermediate the length of said roll, said disks journaled on said tube, and mechanical means for( withdrawing air from the space within the roll between said disks.
2. An ironing machine comprising Aa. gear housing with gearing therein, an external gear driven therefrom, a tubular ironing roll comprising a perforated metallic shell and padding there-A around, a tube rigidly mounted in the gear hous-` ing and extending therefrom a distance less than. the length of the roll 'and disposed within and` axially of the roll, a closure disk for the end of the roll adjacent the gear housing and formed with an internal gear meshing with the said external gear, a bearing disk mounted within the roll intermediate the length of said roll,

4. An ironing machine comprising a'gear housing, an elongated tube-rigidly mounted inthe housing and extending laterally therefrom, a hollow-cylindrical ironing roll journaled on said tube for rotation thereon and having a. plurality of perforations extending through its wall,
padding surrounding said roll, and means for withdrawing air from the interior of the roll including an electric motor mounted on said tube within the roll and a fan driven by said vmotor.
5. An ironing machine comprising a hollow base, a 'gear housingmounted thereon, a cylindrical roll, a tube rigidly mounted in said gear housf ing extending laterally thereform and adapted to support said cylindrical roll, and said tube having perforations through its wall, closure disks for the opposite ends of said cylindrical roll, a padding surrounding the roll, a conduit in communication with said tube, and a fan mounted within the hollow `base and in communication with said conduit.
6. In an ironing machine, a hollowlcylindrical ironing roll having a plurality of perforatlons, a tube mounted in said ironing rollV having means extending therefrom and in contact vwith the interior of the ironing roll for the support thereof, a motor and fan mountedin said ironing roll for withdrawing air from the interior of said ironing roll and carrying with it moisture drawn through said perforations, said motor having leads extending thereto through said tube.
