This invention relates to diapers. An object of the invention is the provision of g a garment having a substantially waterproof sheet of material provided with attaching straps with an endless member formed of fibrous material embracing the waterproof sheet and having a portion thereof equipped with an absorbent pad.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment in which a waterproof sheet of material is located between the sections of an endless member Which has an absorbent pad applied to one section, the endless member and absorbent pad being readily replaceable so that it may be discarded and a clean pad and endless member supplied when desired.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification; nevertheless, it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications as define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a diaper constructed in accordance with the principles of my invention, I
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of a sheet formed of waterproof material showing the straps for attaching the garment to the body, and
, Figure 3 is a horizontal section take along the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 designates a sheet of rubber or rubberized fabric to provide'a waterproof member as forming part of the garment. To the lower end of the waterproof sheet 10 is secured at 11 a strip of flannel 12 or other soft material.
An endless member, generally designated by the numeral 20, is formed of gauze or similar material, as shown at 21, and is formed into a band which embraces the sheet 10 and is supported thereon as shown in Fig. 1.
An absorbent pad 22 is secured to one section of the member 21 and extends approximatelythe length of one section of said member and is secured to the member 21 in any approved manner. This absorbent pad is faced with a soft non-irritating material since this pad is placed next to the body of the wearer.
The absorbent pad 22 is placed against the back of thebody and the lower end 23 is drawn in-= wardly and upwardly and attached to the'ends of the straps 13 after those straps have been brought forwardlyaround the body. Any kind of well known securing means may be employed for connecting the end 23 to the straps 13.
By this construction it isunnecessary to wash the soiled pad since this may be thrown away and a new one supplied by inserting the sheet 10 between the sections of the endless member 21.
The absorbent pad 22 at the outer face may if desired be covered with a strip of gauze similar to the gauze endless member 20.
The member 20 need not be endless but may be open at the lower end 23 so that it will be folded over' the waterproof member 10 and be supported thereby.
I claim:
A diaper comprising a sheet of Waterproof material, a strip of fabric connected to the lower edgeof the material, attaching straps connected to the upper end of sheet and projecting outwardly from the side edges of said sheet, an endless elongated member formed of fabric, said sheet being insertible into the endless member for supporting the endless member, a section each of the endless member being at one face of the sheet, and a pad of absorbent material secured to the outer face of one section of the endless member. a
