(01.282-16) This invention relates to improvements in autographic registers, and has for its object to provide an autographic register in which detail and summary strips are mechanically ejectedior a short distance, after which the detail strips are further fed so that sheets thereof may be torn off by hand, said sheets being indicated by cross perforations or similar means.
It is also an object of this invention to provide,
-in connection with an autographic register, means whereby detail items may be recorded on detail sheets formed from strips of paper, and summary items entered upon a summary strip and all of the strips mechanically fed for a short distance, after which the detail strips are moved by hand so that the detail sheets forming parts of the detail strips may be torn off.
t It is an object to provide means of aligning a plurality of paper strips along transverse creases, bends or perforations. It is afurther object in this connection to employ with such aligned strips of paper a single, independent sheet of paperfor carrying a summary record which is not afiectedby the aligning of the plurality of sheets of paper for thedetail record but which is affected by the partial movement of the detail strips, which partial movement moves the summary strip into a new position; The continuation of this movement moves the detail strips into a new aligned position.
It is an object to provide means of locking the detail strips in locked position. of alignment while being written upon in connection with the writing of the d'etailand summary information, and to provide means of unlocking the detail strips and of simultaneously moving the detail and summary strips together a short distance and thereafter, whilethe detail strips are still unlocked, moving them the remainder of the distance so they can be realigned on a new crease or perforation. I
It is a further object to provide a feeding means which. feeds all strips together and thereafter feeds only a portion ofthe strips, allowing the other portion to remain at rest.

The bottom 5 has extending upwardly from the rear end thereof a rear wall '7, whichydivides the casing longitudinally into two compartments for containing 20 strips of paper, folded along cross perforations. Resting upon the sides of the casing is a writing table 8, which has at its other end, at each edge, a downwardlyextending bracket 9, supported on the sides of the casing by means of a shaft 10., On the under or inside part of the writing table is a transverse plate 11, which has at each end a slot 12. In these slots are guide pins 13 for supporting the transverse plate on the table and permitting its longitudinal movement with relation tothe writing table.
Extending at right angles from the end of the transverse plate is an arm 14, which has a slot 15 therein for receiving, a guide pin 16. Each of these guide pins is suitably attached tothe writing table, and has on its free end a disc or head 16a. for holding'the plate and the arm in close relationship with the table. To the guide pin 16 is attached one end of a spring 17, the other end of which is attached to the arm 14 at the point 17a. The free end of the arm 14 is bent down to form a bracket 18, the purpose of which will be later described.
One side of the transverse plate is cut away at. 19 and has at each endof the cutaway part 45 a bracket 20 for supporting two rollers; one a front roller 21 and the other a rear roller 22. It will. be noticed from Figure 5 that the roller 22 is closer to the table than the roller 21. These rollers serve to cause the strips of paper 50 to be bent around the table in slots through which these strips pass.
In the chamber formed by the side walls 6 are two stacks of paper, one 23 containing detail strips adapted to be fed onto the table through a slot 24, and the other stack 25 consisting of a summary strip suitably folded and adapted to pass through a slot 26 in the table. These two slots are closely adjacent each other and immediately above the two rollers 21 and 22. The summary strip passes to the rear of the roller 22, through the slot 26 and along the top of the table toward the rear thereof. The detail strips pass up along the rear of the roller 21, through the slot 24 and over the table toward the rear thereof.
Across the upper rear edge of the table is a bar 27 attached at its ends to the sides of the table. Beneath this bar and in the rear end of the table is a plurality of notches 28. For each notch there is a spring '29, suitably attached to the table and provided with an arcuate end 30 projecting into the notch for engaging the under surface of a strip of paper passing over the table.
Adjacent the front end of the table is a presser plate 31, which extends rearwardly over the slot 24, through which the detail strips pass. This plate serves to hold the detail strips as they pass through the slot in close engagement with the upper surface of the writing table.
,On the writing table and adjacent the opposite by means of a carbon sheet located transverse the table, above the summary strip and beneath the detail strips. This carbon sheet is also beneath the separating plate. On the lefthand side of the casing is the usual carbon paper case 36, which has extending longitudinally thereof a shaft 37, supported at its ends by the ends of the carbon paper case. This shaft has thereon a disc 38. which engages one endof a roll of carbon paper 40, supported on the shaft. To this disc is attached one end of a spring 39, the other end of which is attached to the shaft by some suitable means.
The autographic register casing is provided with the usual cover 41, which has at its front end, at each side, a bracket 42 engaging a shaft 43v for supporting the cover on the casing. The cover has the usual writing space or opening 44 therein. The rear end of the cover is arcuate, as indicated by the numeral. 45, and extends over a presser roller 46 supported at each end by a plate 47, which extends downwardly on the inside of the casing.
Each plate has a plurality of slots 48 therein into which pins 49 project from the sides of the casing for guiding the plates as the presser roller moves upwardly and downwardly during the operation of feeding the strips of paper. The lower ends of the plates 47 are bent inwardly, as indicated by the numeral 50, to provide a bracket formation through which a bolt 51 extends downwardly through a bracket 52, attached to the side of the casing.
On the lower end of each bolt is a nut 54 which is adapted to engage a spring 53 located between the nut and the bracket. By means of thisnut the tension. of the spring 53 may be regulated This spring tends to hold thev presser roller down against the sheets of paper being fed over the table of the register. On one end of the roller shaft is a pinion 55 which engages a gear 56 located on one end of a shaft 5'7. This shaft is supported in suitable bearings in the sides of the casing.
On this shaft intermediate. its ends are two discs 58, held in spaced relationship by means of a drum 59. 'On the peripheries of these discs are feed projections 60, each of which has on its surface serrations 61. These serrations, in cooperation with the presser roller, will feed the strips of paper forwardly and in order for the presser roller to cooperate with the serrations 61 in feeding the strips of paper, the presser roller is provided with serrations 62.
On one end of the shaft 57 adjacent one side of the casing is a disc 63, which has extending therefrom a cam projection 64 adapted to engage part of a plate 65 located on one side of the casing. This plate has a plurality of slots 66 adapted to receive pins 67, supported on the sides of the casing for guiding and supporting the plate.

The cover 69 is positioned on the casing by sliding the cover forward. After the cover has been positioned it may be locked in position by means of a lock 73 located on the rear end of the casing. In the rear end of the casing and on the cover 69 is a loop '74 adapted to direct the summary sheet downward after it has passed between the roller and the disc. I
There is also provided on this cover 69 a downwardly extending swinging loop member '75,
adapted to assist in guiding and holding the sheet of paper in position. Attached to the shaft 5'7 is an operating handle '76. righthand side of the casing is a plate 7'7 for holding the ends of the carbon sheet in position. This plate is pivoted at one end '78 to. the casing, while its other end. is releasably attached to the casing by means of a catch '79. The summary sheet is received and deposited in a pile at the rear end of the casing and to the rear of the wall 7.
The strips of paper are fed through the slots in the table from the piles located in the casing. The detail sheets are fed from the pile 23, through the slot 24, while the summary sheet is fed from the pile 25, through the slot 26. These sheets are fed toward the rear end of the table in superimposed relationship, but with the detail sheets separated from the summary sheet by means of the separating plate. The rear ends of these strips pass beneath the bar 27 and between the roller 46 and the discs 58.
The discs are not in engagement with the rollers but have projections 60 that will periodically engage the roller with strips of paper beneath the roller for feeding the strips of paper. It will be observed that these projections are about one-half inch long so that during each.
On the "c'ornplete rotation of the discs the strips of paper will be ied about half an inch. This is the extent of the used part of the summary strip.
After the strips have been fed mechanically the detail strips are pulled further by hand. These fstrips'may be" readily pulleduntil the perforated parts thereof come into engagement with the corner of the table, when these strips will stop or bemore diflicultly pulled, thereby indicating to the operator that the strips have been sum-'- ciently advanced.
In the operation of the handle it will be observed that the projections 60 cooperate with the roller at to advance the strips of paper at the same time that the cam projection 64 pushes the plate 65 forward for shifting the po- "sitions oi the rollers 21 and 22, so that the strips of paper may more readily pass through the slots in the table. After the strips of paper have passed through the slots so that the perforated parts thereof are away from the table,
the strips may be more readily advanced regardless of the positions of the rollers 21 and 22.
The summary strip passes to the rear of the discs and is deposited in a stack at the rear of the casing. The detail strips are torn off into sheets. It willbe understood that the detail strips are divided into sheets by means of cross perforations.
It will be understood that I desire to comprehend within my invention such modifications as come within the scope of my claims and my invention.
' Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
i. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a supporting plate on the pins over the slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table.
3. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate on the table extending over one slot, 2. pin at each end of the other slot, a separating plate on the table, said plate being over the other slot and having holes to receive the pins and a transverse slot, and means to move the strips a distance substantially equal to the width of the transverse slot.-
4. In an autographic register, a table having a slot through which a, summary strip is fed onto the table, means to supply a carbon sheet over the summary sheet, a separating plate on the table adapted to lie over the carbon sheet and the. slot, said plate having a transverse slot therein, said table having a second slot adjacent the first-named slot through which a detail strip is fed over the separating plate, a presser plate over the last-named slot, and means to move the strips longitudinally a distance substantially equal to the width of the slot in the separating plate. a
5. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a separating plate on the table over the other slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and be neath the others and having a slot' therein, and
means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a roller and a disc having a projection thereon-cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
6. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plateextending over one slot, a separating plate on the table over the other slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others, and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a resiliently mounted roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper. 8. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a separating plate on the table over the other slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a pair of discs on the shaft, each disc having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
9. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a supporting plate on the pins over the slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
10. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a supporting plate on the pins over the slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a resiliently mounted roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
11. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a supporting plate on the pins over the slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a disc on the shaft having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
12. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate extendingover one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a supporting plate on the pins over the slot, said separating plate being adapted to extend over one strip and beneath the others and having a slot therein, and means for moving all of the strips a relatively short distance over the table, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a pair of discs on the shaft, each disc having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
13. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate on the table extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a separating plate on the table, said plate being over the other slot and having holes to receive the pins and a transverse slot, and means to move the strips a distance substantially equal to the width of the transverse slot, said means comprising a roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
14. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate on the table extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a separating plate on the table, said plate being over the other slot and having holes to receive the pins and a transverse slot, and means to move the strips 9. distance substantially equal to the width of the transverse slot, said means comprising a resiliently mounted roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
15. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate on the table extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a separating plate on the table, said plate being over the other slot and having holes to receive the pins and a transverse slot, and means to move the strips a distance substantially equal to the width of the transverse slot, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a disc on the shaft having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
16. In an autographic register, a table having a pair of adjacent slots through which strips of paper are fed onto the table, a presser plate on the table extending over one slot, a pin at each end of the other slot, a separating plate on the table, said plate being over the other slot and having holes to receive the pins and a transverse slot, and means to move the strips a distance substantially equal to the width of the transverse slot, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a pair of discs on the shaft, each disc having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.

In an autographic register, a table having a slot through which a summary strip is fed onto the table, means to supply a. carbon sheet over the summary sheet, a separating plate on the table over the carbon sheet and the slot, said plate having a transverse slot therein, said table having a second slot adjacent the firstnamed slot through which a summary strip is fed over the separating plate, a presser plate over the last-named slot, and means to move the strips longitudinally a distance substantially equal to the Width of the slot in the separating plate, said means comprising a roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
18. In an autographic register, a table having a slot through which a summary strip is fed onto the table, means to supply a carbon sheet over the summary sheet, a separating plate on the table adapted to lie over the carbon sheet and the slot, said plate having a transverse slot therein, said table having asecond slot adjacent the first-named slot through which a summary strip is fed over the separating plate, a presser plate over the last-named slot, and means to move the strips longitudinally a distance substantially equal to the width of the slot in the separting plate, said means comprising a resiliently mounted roller and a disc having a projection thereon cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
19. In an autographic register, a table having a slot through which a summary strip is fed onto the table, means to supply a carbon sheet over the summary sheet, a separating plate on the table adapted to lie over the carbon sheet and the slot, said plate having a transverse slot therein, said table having a second slot adjacent the first-named slot through which a summary strip is fed over the separating plate, a presser plate over the last-named slot, and means to move the strips longitudinally a distance substantially equal to the width of the slot in the separating plate, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a disc on the shaft having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
20. In an autographic register, a table having a slot through which a summary strip is fed onto the table, means to supply a carbon sheet over the summary sheet, a separating plate on the table adapted to lie over the carbon sheet and the slot, said plate having a transverse slot therein, said table having a second slot adjacent the first-named slot through which a summary strip is fed over the separating plate, a presser plate over the last-named slot, and means to move the strips longitudinally a distance substantially equal to the Width of the slot in the separating plate, said means comprising a roller, a shaft geared to the roller and a pair of discs on the shaft, each disc having a projection cooperating with the roller to grip the strips of paper.
21. In an autographic register having a plurality of sheets divided into tickets separated by transverse creases, means to align said sheets along said creases at the rear thereof of a given ticket, means to feed a summary sheet beneath said strips independent of said aligning means, and a common feeding means for feeding all of the strips a predetermined short dis.- tance and then releasing them.

In an autographic register having a plurality of sheets divided into tickets separated by transverse creases, means to align said sheets along said creases at the rear thereof of a given ticket, means to feed a summary sheet beneath said strips independent of said aligning means, a common feeding means for feeding all of the strips a predetermined short distance, means of locking the detail sheets in locked aligned position while the means of moving the sheets is at rest and of unlocking the sheets while the moving means is in operation, and yielding means for retaining the rear ends of the detail sheets in aligned locked position.

In combination in an autographic register, of a cabinet, a writing table, means to store a plurality of transversely creased detail tickets, means to align said tickets on said creases at the rear of said writing table, means to store a summary sheet, means to feed said summary sheet beneath the detail tickets independent of the aligning means thereof, means to separate the detail sheets from the tickets, and means to intermittently operate the summary and detail sheets together partially ejecting the detail sheets. i g

In combination in an autographic register, of a cabinet, a writing table, means to store a plurality of transversely creased detail tickets, means to align said tickets on said creases at the rear of said writing table, means to store a sumary sheet, means to feed said summary sheet beneath the detail tickets independent of the aligning means thereof, means to separate the detail sheets from the tickets, means to intermittently operate the summary and detail sheets together partially operating the detail sheets, and means for locking and unlocking the detail sheets as to their alignment in synchronism with the ejection of the sheets, whereby when the sheets are being ejected their alignment isunlocked.
26. In combination in an autographic register, of a cabinet, a writing table, means to store a plurality of transversely creased detail tickets, means to align said tickets on said creases at the rear of said writing table means to store a summary sheet, means to feed said summary sheet beneath the detail tickets independent of the aligning means thereof, means to separate the detail sheets from the tickets, means to intermittently operate the summary and detail sheets together partially operating the detail sheets, means for locking and unlocking the detail sheets as to their alignment in synchronism with the ejection of the sheets, whereby when the sheets are being ejected their alignment isunlocked, and means yieldingly engaging the rear of said detail sheets for cooperating in maintaining them in aligned condition.
