Description

Feb. 12', 1935. H, MOCK 1,990,5 0
COLLAPS IBLE TUBE Filed Oct. 22, 1951 [@Zmnu llll l lllllllllll Patented Feb. 12, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT Lor -"1c Application October 22,
3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in collapsible tubes and has for its object the provision of a novel form of collapsible tube in which there is only one opening made in the tube in the course of manufacture instead of the mouth and end openings common in the collapsible tubes now on the market.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an improved collapsible tube which will be made from a single ingot of metal and which will be normally closed at all times and which will be filled at the mouth end thereof.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the ingoted metal from which my improved tube is drawn.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the tube with cap.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of my improved tube as drawn from the ingot with a single openmg.
Fig. 4 is a top planview of the end of the tube shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 shows an elevation partly in section of my improved tube with the mouth bent over on itself at a single time which is the beginning of the process of forming the neck of the tube.
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is an elevation of my tube with the neck portion compressed.
Fig. 8 is a top plan view of Fig. 7.
Fig. 9 shows an elevation of my improved tube with the neck portion further compressed.
Fig. 10 is a top plan view of Fig. 9.
Fig. 11 shows an elevation of my improved tube with the neck portion in its finished state and threaded.
Fig. 12 is a top plan view of Fig. 11.
Fig. 13 is a cross section of line 13-13 of Fig. 10.
Fig. 14 is a cross section of line 1414' of Fig. 12.
The blank shown in Fig. 3 is drawn in the usual way from the ingot 1 and is then folded to form a thick neck portion as shown in Fig.
1931, SerialNo. 570,350 (01. 221-) 5. This is then compressed into the narrowed neck shown in Fig. 7 and further folded over into the still lower narrowed neck portion shown in Fig. 9. This compressed neck portion is then threaded as shown in Fig. 11 and fitted with the usual cap shown in Fig. 2.
It is apparent that the entire tube is made by forming the usual blank and then making the neck by successively narrowing the open portion of the tube and thickening the same by folding 10 layers of the metal upon each other.
By having a tube with only one opening, it is possible to more completely fill the tube than is the case with the tube of the present manufacture where the open end is folded over and a 1 more beautifully finished article is produced.
It is also apparent that the neck may be narrowed and thickened in other ways than the method here described.
Having fully described my invention, what I 20 claim is: v
1. A collapsible tube having and a rounded bottom integral with said body, integral with said body tending axially therethrough and in communication with the interior of said body.
2. A collapsible tube having a cylindrical body and a rounded bottom closing said tube and integral with said body, and a constricted 0 threaded neck attached to said body, said neck being integral "with said body and having an opening extending axially therethrough and in communication with the interior of said body.
3. As an article of manufacture, a collapsi- 35 ble tube drawn from a metal blank, said tube having a cylindrical body portion, a rounded bottom, closing one end of said cylindrical body portion and integral therewith, and the other a cylindrical body closing saidtube and and a constricted neck end 01' said cylindrical body portion, terminating 0' in a constricted, externally threaded, integrally formed neck portion, said neck portion having an axial outlet opening therethrough.
