The main object of the invention, therefore,
is to avoid these drawbacks by effecting the aforesaid controls trically, and with 'of the various operations electhis object in view, the invention mainly consists in the provision of electric I means whereby these controls may efiiciently and satisfactorily be effected.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of reliable means for the said purpose and consists of one or more ele in the employment, therefor, ctric motors and electro-magnets which are adapted to operate upon suitable clutches or couplings.

The belt or chain 4 further rotates a bevel wheel '7 which is fast with the pinion 5 and which, in turn, rotates the shaft 9 by means of its engagement w ith the bevel wheel 8. Upon the supply of ce-' the shaft 9 there are fixed two ropepulleys or the like 10, adapted, by means of the ropes 11, to swing the charge trough 12 about its pivoting -axle"13 until its contents .discharge'themselves into the mixing drum 2. Owing tothe fact that the electric motor 3 is in constant rotation in order constantly to drive bevel wheel drive 7, 8 is also constantly rotated. On the other hand, however,'it is desirable, that the shaft 9 and the means for swinging the trough should work only intermittently, and for this purpose anautomatic shifting gear for the said shaft 9 is provided, which consists of two electro-magnets 14 and 1'5,'adapted alternately to be energized always in accordance with the position of the trough 12. In the position shown in Fig. 1 electro-magnet has been energized, and as a consequence, the'bevel wheel 8 is in engagement with bevel wheel 7 and is thus effective in driving the shaft 9 so as to swing the trough 12 into its working position in which the contents of the trough are being discharged into the mixthe mixing drum, the V unreel from their pulleys 10 under the influence of the weight of the trough 12 so that the shaft 9' now rotates in the reverse direction. The trough is, thereby, returned into its original position and,- in order to prevent shocks, shock absorbers, dash pots or the like may be provided which, being well known elements, are not illustrated in the drawing.
The necessary water supply to the mixing drum 2 is drawn from the container 18 at the top of the machine by means of a delivery tube 19. According to the invention this water supply is likewise automatically egulated by means of electro-magnets 21, 22, which act upon a slide valve 20 or the like so as to move the same either into its opening or closing position. For example, if the electro-magnet 21 is energized, its slidable core 23 would move the slide 20 toward the :ight and thus open the water outlet. Energizing the electro-magnet22 the slide 20 will be moved toward the left by means of the core 24 and the water supply will be cut off. Packing boxes 25 or the like are provided in the valve for the e of the slide so as to prevent leakage.
Control of the various electric operations is effected from the switch box conventionally shown at 26 which may be arranged at any convenient place on the frame of the machine. This switch box may be of any well-known type in which time-controlled relays or similar switching devices may be employed to open and close the circuits for the various electro- magnets 14, 15 and 21, 22, and contacts 33, 34.
For the movement of the discharge chute 27 an electro-motor 28 is provided, the shaft 29 of which drives, as by means of a cog wheel 30, the bevel wheel 31 which, in turn, drives the shaft 82 for the discharge chute 27. Various other well-known types of transmission may be provided in lieu of the gears 30, 31. The control of this motor is also efiected from the switch box 26 in such a manner as to cause its rotation in either clockwise or anti-clockwise direction according to whether the chute is to move in or out. Changing the direction of rotation of the motor 28 is by means of contacts 33, 34 which come into engagement with each other in the corresponding end position of the chute.
What I claim is:
In a mixing machine for the mixing of concrete and the like and having a revoluble mixing drum, a charge trough, means to pivotally raise and lower said trough comprising a rotary shaft, rope pulleys and a driving gear, an electro-magnet in connection with said shaft, electric contacts for controlling said electro-magnet, a clutch adapted to co-operate with said electromagnet and electric contacts .to control the direction of rotation of the said shaft, further a water reservoir, a delivery pipe, a valve in said delivery pipe, a slide to open and close said valve and electro-magnetic means to 'move said slide alternately into the opening and closing, position, and still further a discharge chute, means to rotate said discharge chute including an electric motor and a transmission gear, and a fixed and a movable contact to reverse the rotation of the said chute.
