Patented Jan. 22, 1935 APPARATUSWITH LOCKING DEVICE AND PRESSURE ACTUATED BUTTON FOR THE DELIVERY OF PRODUCTS OF TOBACCO AND OTHER CYLINDRICAL GOODS Franz Duhan, Vienna, Austria Application February 16, 1933, Serial No.'656,998 In Austria March 10,1932 p '1 Claim. (01.312 78) Devices are known which deliver single cigarettes and the like when actuated by buttons, handles,' levers and so on. i v
For appliance to, automobiles devices are also constructedwhich are connected with the compressor andthe batteries of automobiles to enable the delivery of lighted cigarettes. v
The known devices of this kind, however, are extensive, expensive, need special adaption and besides "that do not function to perfect satisfaction, as inconveniences and operating troubles canoccur with them. 1 V V "In the said devices the single cigarette falls vertically by its own weight upon an oblique surface and finally arrives in adelivering channel. All devices of the above mentioned kind have furthermore the disadvantage that they can easily. 'be".stolenand when actuated, deliver cigarettes or other goods toevery one, for instance to garage attendants.
I The apparatus according to the invention, constructed principally for automobiles is simple,',cheapfland can be shut bya lock in such a manner that first of all the receptacle of goods becomes, inaccessiblejFurthermore the' said lock automatically blocks the press'button serving for the, deliveryof goods so that it is impossible for any'unauthorized" person to obtain cigarettes. Besidesj lthat the -mentioned lock pre'Ve'nts itheft of various other. accessories on the outside of the apparatus, for jinstance lighter, ash trayand'the likelwhich can here moved, when.; the apparatus is closed without bein g locked. The apparatus is arranged in close proximity to the drivers seat to enable the driver to take out single cigarettes easily by mere actuation of the press button as well as to make use of the lighter.
The invention comprises a magazine closed by a plate and guided in a casing. In its end position the magazine is fixed by a simple snap. The opening of the unlocked apparatus for the purpose of filling up the magazine takes place by actuation of the snap, which merely in its position of rest secures the magazine by a tappet against movement in the casing.
According to the invention a lever is operated by actuating the press button, which lever displaces a pivoted closure of the magazine, so that a cigarette falls into the delivery channel. When the button is freed, it flies back under the action of its draw spring, which was extended by pressing in the button and the cigarette is thereby moved forward so far from the delivery channel, bymeans of a pusherdisp'osed on the lever, thatit projects and can be taken out. Still before the cigarette begins to be moved forward, the magazine is closed again by the pivoted closure.
The lighting of I: the cigarette can be by-simple' manipulation of the lighten -The screws or other means serving forfa'stening the apparatus are only accessible if i the apparatus is opened. v F The lock is disposed on the movable magazine in the casing. When the lock is actuated, bolts enter the casing, so that the magazineis fixed in the casing. Such bolts for instanceengag'e the lighter-and fasten the same or hinder the movement of the lever, or the actuation of -the pressure button. Furthermore an ash tr'ay, which is arranged on the cover and may be taken off, when the unlocked apparatus' is opened, but is secured against theft during the locked state of the apparatus, as theash tray can only be taken off, when the apparatus 'is opened, or when the magazine is drawn out.
Fig. l is a side view ofthe apparatus' in its closedand lockedstatefi' a Fig. 2 is a plan-view. Fig. 3 shows the cover plate in front elevation. Fig. 4 is a cross sectionthroughthe casing effected and -magazine. T -';Fig; 5 represents lockfi Fig. 6 illustrates I thereceptacle for the" goods and theeleinents fortheir'delivery.
a cross section through the Fig. 'l shows the le'v"ei" and the pressure but ton serving to deliver the goods and Fig. 8 the opened lighter disposed on the cover plate.
The cylindrical casing l is fixed by its flange by fastening means 3 (screws or the like) on the dashboard 2 of the automobile. The casing has guide ribs'4 for the receptacle 8 which may be moved in axial direction.
The receptacle is rigidly connected with the cover plate 9 which in its closed state renders the fastening means 3 inaccessible. The cover plate 9 is engaged by a snap 5 connected with a leaf spring 6 fixed at 7 in the casing. The receptacle 8 has an axle 10 for the pivoted closure 11 which causes the delivery of the goods. The swinging movement of said pivoted closure in the direction of arrow around the axle 10 is efiected by the lever 12 which supports the press button 16.
When the. apparatus is unlocked, the cover plate 9 with the magazineS may only be drawn The movement of the lever 12 tensions a'draw v spring 17 and the oblique airmen of the lever 12 engages with a pivoted iclosure 11 which is caused thereby to swing around an "axle 10 in' the direction of arrow so that a cigarette 45 may fall into the channel of the magazine 3.
When the press button 16 is freed, it flies back under the action of the spring 17, the oblique surface 13 disengages from the closure 11 and:
the latter returns into its locking position under the actionof aspringlQ, The' cigarette 45 in the delivering channel is pushed forward in'the direction of arrow by a pusher 14,ywhich-;is mounted on the lever 12 and slides in the delivering channel. The cigarette may be taken out through the-opening 46in the cover plate 9.
The magazine 8; together with the cover plate 9 rigidlyv connected thereto may be draw-n out from the casing 1 after pressing down the snap 5, and refilled with cigarettes. When the snap is presseddown, the-leaf spring 6 connected to the casing-at 7 is bent and consequently stressed and-in this -position the snap can pass through the cover plate which, being rigidly connected with the magazine, ispositively guided.
When the magazineis pushed into the casing, the leafspring 6 again extends and acatch disposed on the snap hinders the magazine from being d a i The look ('Fig. 5) consists of a lever 32 which may be turnedby thebi-t33 of a key'34. and thus actuates two slidable lev ers 25 and 26 by ymeans of pins 30 and31 disposed on the *locklever'32. The slidable levers :are provided with bolts 22 V and 23 and guided on guide pins 27 and '28 engaging in slots 29 in these-slidable levers. 7
-{I'heash tray has a1pin--38 -which engagesin a hole in the casing l and a slot-39-inthe cover plate 9. The ash tray is secured on-thecover plate' by means of the two pins 4Q-disposed= on the cover plate and engaging in slots 41 in;-the earwal t ga r s When the locking "device actuated, tha-t-;is to say when the apparatusis locked -inits closed trayfrom"saidcoverplate.
state, the bolts 22 and 23 engage in holes 24 in the casing. The bolt 22 stops also the movement of the surface 21 of the lever 12 so that the actuation of the press button and the delivery of the cigarettes are hindered. The bolt 23 engages in holes 42 and 43 in the corresponding parts 35- and 36 of the lighter, thushindering the removal thereof. As, when in locked state the pin 38 of the ash tray lies in a hole in the casing 1 and therefore prevents the turning of the ash tray, the sametoo cannot be removed:
What'I claim is:
