In the modification shown in Figs. 16 and 17, blocks 34 in the shape of semi-circular segments in cross section extend into corresponding re cesses 35 to keep the tile 15 in place.
In the modification shown in Figs. 14 to 1'? an extra row of cooling tubes 10' is provided along 7 the upper ends of the tile 15 and similar rows of cooling tubes may be provided in the other modiflcations.
It will be understood that while this invention has been described in connection with a glass furnace, it is not restricted to this use but can be applied equally well to any other furnace roof structure.
I claim: 7
1. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace, tile supported by said supports, said tile having reduced portions extending between said supports,
and pairs of blocks at different-elevations between said supports and tile.
2. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace,
duced portions, and pairs of blocks at different elevations between said supports and laterally extending portions.
4. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace, tile supported by said supports,'said tile having reduced portions extending between said supports, laterally extending portions above said reduced portions, and blocks between said supports and laterally extending portions, said blocks having a dimension less than the distance between said laterally extending portions and also less than the distance between said supports and said laterally extending portions.
5. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace, tile supported by. said supports, said tile having reduced portions extending between said supports, and pairs of blocks of different sizes between said supports and tile.
8. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace, tile supported by said supports, said tile having reduced portions extending between said supports, and
pairs of blocks of different sizes between said supports and tile at least one block of each pair having a curved surface to contact with a support.
7. In a furnace, cooling tubes along the roof of said furnace, contacting tile supported by said tubes, said tile having lateral projections above said tubes, and pairs of blocks at different elevations between said projections and tubes.
8. In a furnace, cooling tubes along the roof of said furnace, contacting tile supported by said tubes, said tile having lateral projections above said tubes, and pairs of blocks between said tubes and tile one block of each pair contacting with a tube and the other with a tile.
9. In a furnace, cooling tubes along the roof of said furnace, contacting tile supported by said tubes, said tile having lateral projections above said tubes, and pairs of blocks between said tubes and tile, one block of each pair being smaller than the other one.
10. In a furnace, cooling tubes along the roof of said furnace, contacting tile supported by said tubes, said tile having lateral projections above said tubes, and blocks between said projections and tubes, said blocks having a dimension less than the distance between edges of the projections on adjacent tile and also less than the distance between said tubes and said projections.
11. In a furnace, elongated supports spaced from each other along the roof of said furnace,

12. In a. furnace, a plurality of tubes spaced in a lateral plane, tile adapted to be inserted up.

13. In a furnace, a plurality of elongated supports spaced in a lateral plane, tile adapted to be inserted upwardly into position between said'supports, said tile being recessed on sides that are adjacent, thus providing spaces to span substantially the lower half of each support when the tile are assembled in position, each tile having a receiving recess for tile sustaining means in the respective faces of the portions thereof that extend upwardly between the supports, said lastnamed recesses being above said first-named recesses and adjacent the respective supports, and tile sustaining means surrounding substantially the upper half of each support substantially closing the space above said support and engaging said receiving recesses of adjacent tile to main tain the tile removably in position.
