One object of the present invention is the,
provision of a novel shear de'viceemplo'ying levers whichwill disappear when not in use, and thus prevent damage accruingto the materialfwhich often results in the use of conventionalstationary shear knives duet'o the'presences'of the shear levers'after'the cut is made.

The shear lever 22 is apertured adjacent its lower end to enable it to earrya shaft 28 which is adapted to extend from either side thereof and support on each of its ends a bushing 27 on which there is mounted a roller 29, A pair of links 14 are connected on onejof their ends to the vertically mov'able' shaft and on the otherof their ends to the shaft 28 at positions immediatelyadjacent the rollers 29. Each of the rollers 29 is adapted to travel on a trackway 30-on each of the side plates 3 of thhousing; The trackways 30 are both provided with a curved or arced surface 31. The curved orarced surfaces 31 of the trackways 30 terminate at 32, from whence they extend in a horizontal plane, as shown at 33;
A pair of journals 35 are connected to the bed 2 and rotatably support a shaft 36 having intermediate its ends a crank 37. A pair of journals 43 are suitablysecured to the side plates 3immediately above thejournals 35, which are secured to the bed 2, and support a shaft 44 which carries on one of its ends a pinion 45 which is in constant engagement with the gear 41. the shaft 28,!operating through the shear lever 22,-and thelinks 14, will have raised the shaft-1Q such manner as to move the upper ends 15 and 25 of the shear levers 12 and 22, respectively,
through the aperture 6'in the top plate of the housing.
As the crank 37 moves further in its clockwise direction of rotation to the position shown in Figure 6, the rollers 29 will cross the points 32 on the trackways 30 and move down the 'arced or curved surfaces 31, and cause the upper end 25 of the shear lever 22 to move horizontally toward the upper end l5 of the shear lever 12, bringing their knife blades 26 and lfi, respectively, into cutting engagement.
As the cutting engagement of the knife blades 26 and 16 is made, the crank 37 will be in deadcenter position, from whence it will move in its clockwise direction of rotation, and cause the andonto the horizontal surfaces33 of the trackway'30. The movement of therollers over the horizontal surfaces 33, as shown inFigure 8, will cause the various elements to be restored to. the disappearing position of Figure 4, thereby cornpleting a cycle of operation.
, While I have shown and describedone specific embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited exactly thereto, since various modifications may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, as defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1-. In a shear device, a horizontal shaft adapted for vertical movement, a shear lever carried intermediate its ends by said shaft and adapted for vertical movement therewith, and a second shear lever j ournaled intermediate its ends on said shaft and adapted for both vertical and rotary movementr 2. In a-shear device, a housing, a shaft slidably mounted in said housing for vertical movement with respect thereto, a shear lever journaled intermediate its ends-on said shaft, a link connectedto said housing and to the lower end of said shear lever, a second shear lever journaled intermediate its ends on said shaft, a shear blade mounted on the upper end of each of said shear levers, and means'for moving said second named shear lever vertically in such manner as to cause it to partially rotate on said shaft.
3. In a shear device, a housing, a shaftslidably mounted in said housing for vertical movement with respect thereto, a shear lever journaled intermediate its ends on said shaft, a link connected to said housing and, to the lower end of said shear lever, a second shear lever journaled intermediate its ends on said shaft, a shear blade mounted on the upper end of each of said shear levers, a trackway carried by said housing, a roller carried by the lower end 'of said second named lever and adapted for movement insaid trackway, and means for moving said roller.
4. In a shear device, a housing having a ver tical aperture in each of its sides, a roller adapted for movement in each of said apertures, a shaft journaled in said roller, a pair of shear levers journaled intermediate their ends onsaid' shaft,
means for limiting the rotation of one of said shear levers on said shaftfa curved trackway in lmovement in each of said apertures, a shaft journaled in said rollers, a pair of shear levers journaled intermediate their ends on said shaft,
, means for limiting the rotation of one of said shear levers on said shaft, a curved trackway in each of the sides of said housing, a shaft carried bythe lower end of the other of said shear levers, a roller mounted on each endof said shaft for movement in one of said trackways, at least one link connected to both of said shafts, acrankshaft journaled on said housing, .a connecting-rod carried by said crankshaft and connected-to the shear lever carrying thev shaft on which said rollersare mounted, and means for rotating said crankshaft.
6. In a shear device, a housing having a vertical aperture in each of its sides, a. roller adapted for movement in each of said apertures, a shaft journaled in said rollers, a pair of shear levers journaled intermediate their ends on said shaft, means for limiting the rotation of one of said shear levers on said shaft, a curved trackway in eachof the sides of said housing, a shaft carried by the lower endof the other of said shear levers, a roller mounted on each end of said shaft for movement in one of said trackways, a crankshaft journaled on said housing, a connecting-rodcarried by said crankshaft and connected to the shear lever carrying the shaft'on which said rollers are mounted, and means for rotating said crankshaft, said. means comprisingamotor and a transmission mechanism.

In a shear device, a housing having a vertical aperture in'each of its sides, a'pair of guides in each of said apertures, a roller disposed between each pair of said guides, ashaft journaled in said rollers, a shear lever carried intermediate its ends by said shaft and adapted for vertical movement therewith, a second shear 'lever journaled intermediate its ends on said shaft and adapted for both vertical and rotary movement, said hdusing having an aperture'through which said shear levers are adapted to extend in their vertical movement, and a shear blade mounted on the upper end of each of said shear levers.
