trifugal pumps.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide simple and eiective means for mounting the inner pump casing within the outer casing of a double casing pump.
`A further object is to pro vide means for sealing the joint formed between the inner and outer casings adjacent the inlet ends thereof for effectively preventing the high pressure iluid contained in the space formed between the casings from leaking into the iiuid inlet passages thereof.
A further object is to provide means for supporting the distal end of the inner casing upon the removable cover of the providing resilient packing outer casing and for means between the removable cover and the adjacent end of the inner casing.
A further object is to provide means readily accessible for bolting the inn casing.
er casing to the outer A further object is to provide the outer casing with means for centering a ing therein each end of an nd slidably supportinner casing and for providing a resilient gasket means acting between the casings at one end for retaining the other end thereof in effective sealing engagement and for providing means for preventing rotation of the inner casing.
cation, and that variations of construction or arrangem therefrom in details ent of parts may accordingly be effected and yet remain within the spirit and scope of the invention, as the same is set forth in the appended cl In the drawing:
aims.
The single figure illustrates a longitudinal sectional view of a double casing multi-stage centrifugal pump having a different arrangement of the means for mounting and sealing the inner casing therein.
The double casing centrif the drawing may include ugal pump shown in an inner casing 50 mounted within an outer casing 5l. The outer casing may be provided with a flange 52 adjacent its open end, which iianged portion may be counterbored as at 53 to receive a which lugs may be bolted to t plurality of lugs 54, he outer casing, as by double, casing pumps,
suitable screw means 55. If. desired, the lugs may be recessed for setting the screw heads into the lugs. The face of the outer casing flange 52 may be stepped as at 56, while the face of the cover ilange 57 may have a complementary stepped portion 58 and an annular gasket 59 may be mounted between the stepped portions of the outer casing and coverflanges while theseiianges may be iirmly clamped together as by suitable bolt means 60.
The inner casing 50 maybe centeredV and supported at its fluid inlet end by the outer casing diaphragm 61 as by means of the axially cylindrical flange 62 of the inner casing slidably fitting into the bore 62a of the diaphragm; and to provide an eiective iiuid seal, a resilient gasket 61a may be positioned between the uid inlet end of the inner casing and the diaphragm, thereby permitting a relatively longitudinal motion between the two casings to compensate for differences in degree of expansion of the cases. The resilient gasket may be placed under an initial compression as the inner casing is bolted into position so that a separating movement of the cases at this end may be eectively compensated for by the expansion of the resilient gasket. The resilient gasket will effectively seal the high pressure fluid space 63 from the fluid inlet channel 64.
The cover end of the inner casing may be supported and centered by an axially concentric boss 65, which boss may be suitably mounted upon and formed integral with the cover 66 while that end of the inner casing may be provided with a concentric bore 67 of appropriate diameter so as to nicely fit onto the cover boss 65. The cover end of the casing may be effectively sealed by placing a resilient annular gasket 68 upon the cover boss 65 and of sufcient size to be initially compressed during the clamping of the cover into operative position by the bolt means 60.
By this arrangement, the inner casing may expand freely longitudinally in both directions from the retaining lugs 54, and yet due to the two resilient gaskets, the ends thereof will remain effectively sealed to the outer casing diaphragm and cover respectively, irrespective of the relative movement between the casings.
The cover end of the pump may be provided with a standard form of stuiiing box having an adjusting means 68, a shaft bearing 69, and a thrust bearing 69a. 'Ihe number of pumping municate with ,the inlet channel 64 of the outer casing, while a discharge passage '71 of the inner casing may communicate with the space 63 formed between the two casings. The outer casing may be provided with a discharge nozzle having a discharge passage '73 for communicating the space 63 with the exterior of the pump. One of the principal features. of `this invention isthe location of, the lugs,5 41an`dbolts 55h51 whichy means the inner casing is secured to the outer casing in such a manner as to minimize the effect of expansion strains between the inner and outer casings while providing accessibility for assembling and disassembling the pump. `The Vlugs v54 also perform a further valuable 4service in maintaining the inner casing correctly mounted within the space 63 of the outer casing when the cover 66 of the outer casing has been removed.
Having fully described the invention, it is zto be understood that it is not to be limited to the details `herein set forth, butthe invention is of the full scopeof thexappended claims.Y
