CEMETERY VASE Filed Jan. 18, 1934 I I J I 5 f/asf/nys W Baker and Ya/fie )(Bakgr INVENTORS WWW ATTORNEY iterated Nov. 20, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CEMETERY VASE Hastings W. Baker Application January 18, 1934, Serial No. 707,144
6 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in relation to cemetery vases and in particular to an improvement in the means to attach the removable vase to the outer container and more specifically constitutes an improvement on the type of cemetery vase shown in the application of Hastings W. Baker, Serial No. 697,634 filed November 11, 1933.
The drawing is a perspective view of the structure incorporated in the invention showing the parts in a disassembled condition.
The vase 1 is integral with or secured to a base plate 2, the base plate 2 being circular in plan view and adapted to be seated on an in-turned flange 3 of an outer container 4 provided with outstanding feet 5 at or near the bottom thereof. The outer container 4 is adapted to be buried in the ground on the grave so that the flange 3 will be substantially level with the surface of the ground. The outer container 4 is circular in plan view and of the same size as the base plate 2 so that the base plate, when seated on the flange 3, will have its outer surface or circumference flush with the outer surface of the outer container 4. The outer container 4 is provided with two or more lugs 6 adapted to receive bayonet slots 7 in a continuous ring 8 provided with an inwardly extending flange 9 at its upper end.
When it is desired to use the vase l for flowers the vase with its base plate would be lowered so that the base plate would rest on the in-turned flange 3 of the outer container 4. The ring 8 would then be lowered so that the bayonet slot '7 would engage the lug 6 so that upon a slight rotation of the ring 8 the flange 9 of the ring 8 would engage the upper surface of the base plate 2 and hold the base plate and vase secure to the outer container which is rigidly embedded in the ground. This would prevent the vase being overturned by the wind or otherwise. When it is not desired to use the vase for flowers, the ring 8 would be disengaged from the lugs 6, thereby freeing the ring so that it can be lifted over the top of the vase. The vase and the base plate would now be removed, inverted, and the vase 1 would be lowered into the outer container. The ring 8 would be replaced so that the flange 9 of the said ring would engage the opposite side of the base plate from that shown in the drawing, thereby holding the vase, through its base plate, securely to the outer container.
Having now described our invention, we claim:
1. In combination with a vase and its base plate, a container, outstanding lugs on said container, a ring provided with slots to receive said lugs, and means forming a part of said ring to engage the base plate so as to hold said base plate against the top of said container.
2. In combination, a base plate of a vase, a container, outstanding lugs on said container, and a flanged ring provided with slots to engage said lugs, the flanged part of said ring overlying a portion of said base plate so as to hold said base plate securely on said container.
3. In combination, a base plate of a vase, a container, a continuous ring, a flange forming a part of said ring and normally overlying a portion of said base plate, and means whereby said ring may be detachably secured to said container.
4. In combination, a base plate of a vase, a container having its upper end extending inwardly forming a flange, said flange serving as a foundation support for the base plate, outstanding lugs carried by said container, and a flanged ring provided with slots to engage said lugs, the flanged part of said ring overlying a portion of said base plate so as to hold said base plate securely on said ring.
5. In combination, a base plate of a vase, a container to support said base plate, a continuous ring provided with a flange which when in normal position surrounds the upper portion of said container and overlies a portion of the base plate, and means whereby said ring is detachably secured to said container.
6. In combination, a base plate of vase, a container, circular in cross-sectional view, a circular continuous ring having a skirt adapted to surround the upper portion of said container an inwardly extending flange adapted to ove'" portion of said base plate, and means whereby said ring may be detachably secured to said container so as to hold said base plate in position.
