11 Claims.

This invention relates to improvements in moth bags and, more especially, a bag or container adapted to enclose clothing or other material to be fumigated for the purpose of destroying moths, larvae, eggs, and the like therein.

Among the features of my invention is the provision of such a device which is substantially gas-tight and which can be quickly and readily opened and closed forpthe purpose of placing clothing therein and removing the same therefrom.

My improved device is so constructed that a volatile liquid can be readily inserted therein in a suitable container so that when the bag is closed, the gases therefrom will fill the bag and permeate the clothing therein to destroy insect life of the character described. V

It is only necessary that the same be substantially gas-tight and be provided with a rigid periphery or edge to which the upper edge of the bag may be detachably secured to form a substantially gas-tight joint.

The top of the cover A is provided with a hook 10 for suspending the same from a suitable pole or other support. Inside of the cover along the top is provided a trough-like casing 11 adapted to contain suitable absorbent material 12.

The ends of this. casingare provided with perforations 13. The top of the cover'A is provided with a filler spout or neck 14 opening into the interior of the trough 11 and adapted -to be closed by a removable cap 15. In the practice of the invention a suitable moth-killing volatile liquid can be poured-into the neck 14 to. wet the absorbent material 12. The fumes given off by this liquid as the same vaporizes escape through the perforations 13 to fill the bag and permeate the clothing therein to destroy moth life, and the like, as described above.

The inside of the cover A is: also provided with a cross bar 16 adapted to support hangers of a well-known type upon which clothingin the bag may be suspended.- q 1 Around the margin on the inside, the. cover A may havea suitable bead 17 to assistin positioning the upper edge of the bag therein to form a substantially gas-tight joint. Each end of the cover A is provided with a vertical slot 18 in the center to receive the projecting lugs on the frame inthe upperedge of the bag to be hereinafter described. Asshown in Fig. 2, these lugs are indicated -by.'19 and each end of the cover A carries a hook or catch 20 pivoted at 21 adapted to be swungto engage the lugs 19 to hold thebag in position, as shown by the solid lines in Fig. 2,ormovedtojeleased position, as shown by the broken lines in Fig. 2, which permit disengagement of the bag from the cover.

The bag indicatedby B is preferably made of some suitable flexible substantially gas-proof material such as, for example, rubberized cloth, paper, cellophane or the like. The same, is substantially rectangular in shape and is large enough to accommodate the, number of articles to be suspended from the hanger wire 16 in the cover. The flexible material of which the bag is made is hereindi'cate d by 22. 19, 19"at each end, as described above. The extreme end of each of the lugs is preferably provided with a knob 19 to assist in grasping the bag.

In the practice of the invention, clothing on suitable hangers are first supported from the wire 16. The upper end of the bag is then grasped by the handles 19 and drawn up over the clothing. The lugs 19 are inserted in the slots 18 and the catches 20 swung to engage the same. The upper edge of the bag preferably fits rather snugly inside of the lower edge of the cover and is designed to be positioned just under and embodiments of my invention, it is to be under- I stood that it is capable of many modifications.

Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as permissible, in 'view'of the I prior art.

What I regard as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is: I 4

1. A moth bag, including: a substantially gastight coverwith a rigid edge; means for suspending said cover from a support; means attached to the underside of the cover for supporting clothing; means attached to the underside of the cover for containing a volatile substance, said means permitting the escape of gases from said substance; a bag with a rigid upper edge adapted to cooperate with the edge of the .cover to form a substantially gas-tight joint; and means for detachably securing the upper edge of the bag t I the edge of the cover.

2. A moth bag, including: a substahtiallygastight cover with a rigid edge; meansfor suspendingsaid cover from a support; means attached to the underside of the cover for supportingclothing'; means attached to the underside of the 1 cover for containing a volatile substance, said means permitting the escape of gases from said substance; a flexible bag with a rigid upper edge adapted to cooperate with the edge of the cover to form a substantially gas-tight joint; and means for detachably securing the upper edge of the bag to the edge of the cover,

A moth bag, including; a substantially gas tight cover with a rigid edge; means for suspend ing said cover from a support; means attached the underside of the cover'for supporting clothing; means attached to the underside of the cover for containing a volatile substance, said means permitting the escape of gases from said sub stance; a bag; 8- rigid frame in the upper edge of the bag; and means for clet achably securing said frame to the cover to cause the upper edge of the bag to make a substantially gas-tight joint with the edge of the cover.v 4 Q 4. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the means for containing the volatile substance includes a perforated receptacle and absorbent material in said receptacle.

5. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the means for containing the volatile substance includes a perforated receptacle having a filling opening to the outside of the cover, and absorbent material in said receptacle.

6. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the means for containing a volatile substance includes a perforated receptacle having a filling opening extending to the outside of the cover.

Amoth bag, including; a substantially gastight semi-cylindrical cover with a rigid lower edge; means for suspending said cover from a escape of gases from said substance; a bag with a rigid upper edge adapted to cooperate with the lower edge of the cover to form a substantially' gas-tight joint; and means for detachably securing the upper edge of the 'bag to the edge of the cover;

Apparatus as claimed in claim 7, in which the ends of the cover are provided with slots and in'which the upper edge of the bag is provided with a rigid rectangular vframe having lugs adapted to be inserted in the slots in the cover, and'means for detachably securing said lugs in said slots. 1 V I 9. 10.- A moth bag, including; a substantially gas-tight cover or substantial area with a rigid edge; means for suspending said coveryirom a support; means attached tothe'underside of the cover for supporting clothing; a bag with a. rigid upper edge adapted to cooperate with the edge of the cover to'form a substantially gas-tight:
