Description

vNev. 6, 1934 E. MUSSBACH I WINDOW ATTACHMENT Filed March 15, 1934 ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 6, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT GFFHQE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to window attachments, and it is an object of the invention to provide a platform that when extended horizontally affords means for airing of beds, mattresses,
clothes, etc., while in its raised vertical position provides a protective guard preventing persons falling out of an open window.
Another object is the provision of a window attachment which can be used as a convenient and safe seat for persons while cleaning windows.
A still further object is to provide a window attachment which, when not in use, is so constructed that lifting and lowering of the platform will suspend and hold the sameagainst the IE window.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description proceeds and will then be specifically defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an attachment constructed according to the invention in operative position at a Window.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the attachment when in a raised position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional View taken on line 44 of Figure 1.
As shown on the drawing, the device comprises a pair of side bars 10, 11 connected at their outer ends by a frame rod 12, and at their inner ends by a frame rod 13, the ends of which are journaled in the slotted openings 14 of brackets 15 attached to a window sill by angle irons 16.
A grating or platform is formed by a plurality of spaced grille rods 17 curled at their outer ends over the rod 12 and at their inner ends around the pivoted frame rod 13, clearance 18 being provided to allow turning the grille rods 17 about the pivoted frame rod.
In its extended operative position the attachment is held suspended by the lower elements l920 of guy rods which are pivotally attached at their lower ends to the inner faces of the side bars 10, 11 and to their upper ends by pivots 21, 22 to the lower ends of the guy rod elements 23 and 24, the upper ends of which are slotted and attached, by pivots 25 to brackets 26 fixed on opposite sides of the window frame and provided with upright, substantially L-shaped slots 2'7.
In use the platform is swung out of a window, as indicated in Figure 1; when not so disposed, it can be swung upward so that its side bars assume the position illustrated in Figure 2, in which position it is held by engagement of bar 12 in the slots 27 due to the slots 28 in the guy elements 2324 which permit the guy rods to be raised.
It will be understood that the device described and shown is the preferred form of the invention but such changes may be made therein as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
In a window attachment adapted to fold into horizontal and vertical positions, a platform supported by raised slotted brackets fixed to the ends of the window sill, said platform consisting of a pair of side bars, frame rods rigidly connecting the front and rear ends of said side bars, a plurality of spaced grille rods having eyes at their ends freely engaging over said front and rear frame rods, said rear frame rod being pivotally mounted in the slots of said brackets, a second pair of brackets fixed on the window frame directly above the first named brackets, hingedly connected, foldable guy rod elements pivotally attached at their respective outer ends to the second named brackets and outer ends of said side bars, and means in said second named. brackets to receive and support said front frame rod when raised and entered therein.
