In Fig. 3 we show a fragment of a slumber screen adapted to be secured to a standard it by means of an adjustable clamp i. This permits a shield c with its elements at to be removably secured to a fixed portion of a bed or similar device, which is provided with elements conveniently gripped by a clamp of this character.

In Fig. 4 a slumber screen embodying our invention is shown incorporated as a fixed part of the head piece 7 of a bed. A vertical slot is defined between two spaced cleats 7c carried by said head piece. Said cleats may be formed of harmonizing or contrasting finishes with respect to the head piece of said bed and may be formed, for example, of carved wood and will thus form a decorative design upon the head of said bed.

"Lying within the slot Z formed by said cleats is a vertically-arranged standard m pivotally and removably secured between two fittings n and n. The fitting n includes a pivotal cup n2, into which the lower end of the standard m is screw-threaded. The fitting n defines a loose-fitting eye n3, thru which the standard m is slidably mounted and which provides sufiicient clearance to permit the removal of said standard from said fittings.

To mount said standard in place, it is passed thru the eye portion of the fitting n and secured by its threaded end 111. into the cup n2. Tightfitting but slidable rings 0 are arranged upon said standard and are adapted to be secured at each side of the mounting element :2 for the shield c to prevent longitudinal movement of said shield upon its standard. Said rings also may be seated tightly against said mounting element to prevent the rotation of said shield upon said standard.

In each of the modifications the same type of shield is adapted to be used. Said shield can be made of wood, metal, composition, or any appropriate material. Because of its strength and relative lightness, we have found that plywood serves as an excellent material but, of course, We do not wish our invention limited to the use of said material.

We claim:

A slumber screen including a flat, elongated, tongue-shaped base provided with an upwardly arranged portion at one end thereof extending laterally of said base, a standard secured to said upwardly arranged portion, a relatively stiff shield extending laterally from said standard, said shield being vertically arranged with one edge adjacent said standard, a U-shaped member extending about the full length and stiffening that edge of the shield adjacent the standard, and quick detachable means associated with said U-shaped member securing the latter to said standard and to said shield.
