This invention relates to an undergarment, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to, `which will not only adjust itself to different movements of, but at the same time snugly rit around the bust, the sides and the back of the body of the wearer and act to prevent the iies'n from bulging or creeping out from over the top edge' thereof at its sides. l0 A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to, to obtain when worn, for thesnug fitting around the bust, sides and back of the wearer, and at the same time preventing the `top edge thereof from becoming loose and ill-fitting, especially when the wearer sits down.

Afurther object of the invention is to provide,

in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to, with means to form a very firm v hold of the underarm bust section without the `aid of shoulder straps for controlling the bust and diaphragm of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the' class referred to with elastic and nonelastic means coacting to form a control, which when worn on the body will absolutely lay flat and hug the body in a very effective manner.

A further object of the invention is to provide,

in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to having means at the front thereofffor effecting a purchase over the breast plates which assists in holding the garment firmly in` place.

A further object` of the invention is to provide,

40 A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manneras hereinafter set forth, a garment of the class referred to having means for holding the bust of thewearer firmly in position and with the elimination of the appearance of the back stretches'of the shoulder straps by utilizing such stretches to provide what may be termed a collar band.

l The present trend in style in undergarments, such as corsets, brassires and girdles is to have a low back, but undergarments of such type heretofore were open to the obj ection that they did not fit firmly and their top edges would become loose and ill-fitting, especially when the wearer would sit down. `It is the aim of this invention to overcome the objection as aforesaid by providing a 1934, Serial No. 711,705

low back, neat fitting undergarment around the bust and under the arms of the wearer with a V-shaped yoke at its front and oppositely extending diagonally disposed elastic elements coactng with the yoke whereby the garment will be held firmly in position; adjust itself to different movements of the body of the wearer; while at the same time be snug-tting around the bust; taut at its top edge; and snugly fitting the sides and back of the wearer.

Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an undergarment for the purpose referred to, which is simple in its construction, strong, durable, pleasing in appearance, thoroughly efficient for the purpose intended thereby, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. l

To the above ends essentially and to others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of such parts, and such combination of parts, i which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

With reference to Figures 1 to 5, the garment shown thereby is in the form of a corset generally indicated at 12, and which includes a front 13 consisting of a non-elastic panel formed centrally of its lower end with a tapered cutout 14 closed 100 by a resilient gusset 15. The top edge of front 13 consists of a pair of end edge portions 16, 17, a central edge portion 18 and a pair of intermediate edge portions 19, 20, between which is arranged the edge portion 18. The edge portions 10b 16, 17 are arranged above the edge portion 18 and are oppositely inclined with respect to each other. The inclinations of said edge portions 16, 17 are downward from their inner ends. 'I'he edge portion 18 is of V-shape contour to provide a pair of 110 lower .parts ofv thetsides 24..25.to.provide spaced theiront 13. The. fabric pieces are spaced .from

- f portions 16, 17, to the stretches of-theedge portion oppositely extending stretches. The edge portions 19, are of circular contour and the outer side of each is of greater length than the inner side. The outer side of edge portion 19 merges at its upper end into the inner end of edge portion 16. The inner side of edge portion 19 merges at its upper end into the outer end of one of the stretches ofthe central edge portion 18. The outer side of edge portion 20 merges at its upper end into the inner end of edge portion 17. The inner side of edge portion 20 merges at its upper end into the outer end of the other stretch of the central edge portion 18. The manner of setting up the top edge of front 13 provides the upper portion of the latter with a central tapered'part 21 and a pair of side tapered parts'22, 23 which 'extend above the part 21.

The garment 12 also includes a pair. of sides 24, formed of elastic stretches 26, 27 respectively, and oppositely disposed non-elastic stretches 28,. 29` respectively. The stretches 26, 27 are of greater length than the stretches 28, 29 respectively.'r Each non-elastic stretch is secured to the top of and extends, upwardly .trom an elastic stretch. Each ynon-elastic stretch has` its top edge 30 inclining downwardlyfrom its inner to- Wardsitsl outer. side. The'top edges 30 of the stretches-28, 29.form.flush.continuations of the top v- end edge'portions 16, 17 respectively of the front 13.

The former is of greater inclination and length than the latter. The stretch 50 is arranged inwardly with respect to stretch 51 and has its outer end merge into the inner end of stretch 51. The latter at its outer end merges into the outer end of edge 48. The inner ends of the stretches 50 of the legs 45, 46 merge into each other. The inner ends of bottom edges 47 of the legs 45, 46 merge into each other and their point of mergence aligns with the points of mergence of the stretches 50'.' The outer ends of the bottom edges 47 of the legs 45, 46 merge into the inner end of the outer end edges 48y of the saidlegs. rI'he yoke 44 consists of a length of suitable fabric, preferably lace.

Arranged between each end edge 48 of the yoke 44 and the edge 49 of an extended part 38, 39 is a substantially oblong diagonally disposed elastic strap 52 of a width slightly less than the length of edges`48 and 49, but of a length to extend to such edges. Each strap stands on its.` lower lengthwise edge. The lstraps 52 are. oppositely disposed with respect to each other. Each strap is secured to a leg of the yoke as-at 53 and tothe back 31 at 54. Each strap is also secured to an end edge portion 16 or 17, as at 55 and to the inclined edge 30 of a non-elastic stretch 28.or.29

The sidesofthe back part 62 extend above the side parts 60, 61, as at 73 to provide vertically disposed edge portions 74. The top edge 75 of backpart 62 is of segmental curvature.

The yokel 76 is formed of a length of fabric preferably similar to the material of which the'brassire is made.

*Arranged between each end edge 79 of the yoke 76 and an edge portion 74, is a diagonally disposed elastic strap 83 of a width slightly less than "the length of edge 795er edge portion 74, butlof a length to extend to the edge 79 and edge portion 74. The straps 83 are'oppositely disposed with respectto each other.` Each strap 83 is secured `to a leg of the yoke as at 84, to an edge portionv 74 as at 85 and to an inclined edge 7()` and an inclined edge 71 `as at 86. The straps 83 -when connected in position are tensioned similar to the straps 52'.

The yoke and diagonally disposed elastic straps coact to provide a control means which when the garment is Worn, will cause the latter to fit neatly around the bust and beneath the arrns of -the wearer, and further whereby the 'garment will adjust itself to different movements of the body, while at the same timethe yoke will nt snugly around the bust and the sides andback are held snugly to the body of the wearer. The yoke and strap further coact to provide for the garment tting the body of the wearer in a manner to prevent the creeping or bulging of the flesh over the top edges of the sides of the garment; to prevent the top edge of the garment becoming loose or ill-fitting; gives the wearer a purchase over the breast plates assisting in holding the garment iirmly in place for controlling the bust and diaphragm of the wearer; and snugly iit the wearer especially when one sits down.

What I claim isr- 1. An undergarment including front, back and side parts, said back having side edge portions extending above the rear side edges of said side parts, said side parts having oppositely inclined top edges, a yoke secured to, across and extended above the top of said iront part, and oppositely extending diagonally disposed resilient straps secured at one end to the ends of the yoke, at their lower edges to the top edges of the side parts and their other end to said edge portions of said back part.

3. An undergarment including front, back and side parts, said back having side edge portions extended beyond a side edge of each of said parts,

a substantially 'V-shaped yoke extending from` and across the top of and being secured to said front, said yoke being formed with a pair of end edges disposed in parallel spaced relation,` a pair of oppositelyextending diagonally disposed elastic elements, said elements being secured at one end to said end edges and at the other end to said edge portions and being anchored to said front and side parts, said side and front parts having downwardly inclined top edges, an inclined edge of the front part forming a flush continuation of an inclined edge of a side part, and the points of anchorage between said elements and said front and side parts being on the inclined edges of such parts.

4. An undergarment comprising a body portion including a front part, a yoke secured to the top of said front part, said body portion including side parts and a back part connected with the side parts, the said back part extending above theside parts at the point of connection of the side parts with said back part, and elastic 4elements of strap-like form having the ends thereof connected to said yoke and to said extended portion of the back part at spaced 'points of the latter and being secured at the lower edges thereof to said front and side parts.

An undergarment comprising a body portion including a front part, a yoke secured tothe top of saidfront part, said body portion including side parts and a back part connected with the side parts, the said back part extending aboveA the side parts at the point of connection of the side parts with said back part, and elastic elements of strap-like-form having the ends thereof connected to said yoke and to said extended portion of the back partat spaced points of the latter and being `secured at the lower edges thereof to said front and side parts, said yoke being substantially of V-form and having a pair of oppositely extending legs, the points of connection between said elements and said yoke being at the outer ends of said legs.

6. An undergarment comprising a body portion provided at the top of its front with a continuous yoke extended upwardly therefrom and at the upper end of its back with a pair of spaced Vertical edge portions disposed lengthwise with respect thereto, said yoke having a pair of upstanding end edges arranged above and spaced from said vertical edge portions, and a pair of oppositely extending diagonally disposed elastic elements interposed between said end edges and vertical edge portions, said strap being secured at one end to the said end edges and at their other end to said vertical edge portions, and said elements including lower portions secured to said body portion between said end edges and said vertical edge portions.

An undergarrnent comprising a body formed of a front part, a pair of side parts and a back part joined together, said body being formed with oppositely extending downwardly inclined edge portions at the top of the front and side parts, said body having its back part formed with spaced vertical edge portions at and extending upwardly from the lower ends of said inclined edge portions, a yoke extending across and secured to the top of said front part and being formed with a pair of spaced upstanding end edge punitions,` and oppostely extending diagonally?.
