Description

Oct. 16, 1934. N. OBRIEN SACK FOR VACUUM CLEANERS Filed Sept. 12, 1933 Mam fig INVENTOR WITNESS:
Patented Oct. 16, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFHCE SACK FOR VACUUM CLEANERS Nathan OBrien, Washington, D. 0.
Application September 12, 1933, Serial No. 689,128
3 Claims.
This invention relates to sacks for vacuum cleaners and has for the primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which will be inexpensive to manufacture so that 5 after once filled with dirt from a vacuum cleaner it may be discarded and another substituted therefore and is so constructed that it will effectively trap dirt, dust and the like and still permit air to escape during its use on a vacuum cleaner.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating a sack constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same applied to a vacuum cleaner.
Figure 2 is a plan view illustrating the sack. Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view illustrating the mouth of the sack.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a sack especially adaptable for vacuum cleaners and is so constructed that it may be conveniently applied to any vacuum cleaner now in use.
The sack 1 is preferably of paddle shape providing a restricted neck 2 adapted for application to the vacuum cleaner. The sack includes spaced walls 3 constructed of paper or any other material suitable for the purpose.
The
walls 3 are connected in spaced relation by a foraminous binding strip 4 preferably of a suitable fabric.
A spacer or filler 5 is arranged between the walls 3 and against the strip 4 and has embedded therein a reinforcing element 6 for the purpose of retaining the sack in paddle shape with the filler held against the binding strip 4. The filler is preferably constructed from cotton which will permit air to pass therethrough when under pressure and will collect dust, dirt and other foreign matter.
dirt and other foreign matter.
Thus it will be seen that an inexpensive sack has been provided which is adaptable to vacuum cleaners and will successfully trap dirt and other foreign matter therein still permitting the escape of the air from the vacuum cleaner. A sack of this character after once filled with dirt and other foreign matter can be discarded and another substituted on the vacuum cleaner in lieu thereof.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A sack for vacuum cleaners comprising a flat container having a throat for connection to a vacuum cleaner and including spaced walls made of paper and connected by foraminous material, means for retaining the walls in spaced relation and engaging the foraininous material to prevent the passage of foreign matter through said foraminous material, said walls having openings, and means closing said openings to permit escape of air through the openings and to prevent the pas- 80 sage of foreign matter through said openings.
2. A sack for vacuum cleaners comprising a container having a throat for connection to a vacuum cleaner and including spaced walls having openings, foraminous material connecting said walls, a filler between said walls and engaging said foraminous material, a reinforcement for the filler and air straining means overlying the openings.
3. A sack for vacuum cleaners comprising a container having a throat for connection to a vacuum cleaner and including spaced walls having openings, foraminous material connecting said walls, a filler between said walls and engaging said foraminous material, a reinforcement for the filler, foraininous material secured to said walls over the openings and arranged upon opposite faces of each wall, straining material secured to said Walls over the openings by the last-named foraminous material.
