1 Claim.
This invention relates to electric receptacles and particularly to outlet boxes.
This application is a division of application,
Serial No. 522,553, filed March 1 let box.
4, 1931, for out- The primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved outlet box which has new and novel knock-outs in the walls thereof, which is provided with simple and efficient means for permitting the knock-outs to be removed by a tool, such as a screw-driver, and which has the knock-outs connected to the walls an integral fin or contact.
of the box by A further object is to provide an outlet box having knock-outs in the walls thereof, the knockouts being provided with slots therein into which a tool, such as a screw-driver may be inserted for twisting or otherwise removing a knock-out from a wall.
Numerous other objects and advantages will be apparent throughout the progress of the following specification.
The invention comprises box having knock-outs provided the box and which are the walls by one or more integrally fins. Slots or openings in general an outlet in the walls of connected to are provided in the knock-outs to receive a tool,
such as a screw-driver, to be quickly and easily moved from the walls.
The accompanying lected embodiment of views therein are as follows:
twisted to permit the knockouts or otherwise redrawing illustrates a sethe invention and the Fig. 1 is a detail perspective view of the improved outlet box showing some of the knock-outs may be wise removed from the Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the manner in which pried or otherwalls of the box.
a knockout connected to a wall of the box by a single intact portion.
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of a box showing the knock-out provided with mo Fig. 4 is a detail sectional vi slot in the knock-out walls.
The particular box 10 which may be of which is made of metal, as usual.
re than one fin. ew showing the provided with inclined side herein shown has a body any conventional shape and The walls of the outlet box are provided with knock-outs 31 each of which has bossing or cutting. The
a line of rupture 32 made by emknock-outs 31 may be raised and parallel with the body walls of the box, as
be made normally flush with the walls.
sired, these knock-outs are conne shown in the various figures, or they may If dected to the walls of the outlet box by ation March 14, 1931, Serial No. ded and this application August one or more contacts or fins 33 and may have a slot 34 provided in the walls of the knock-outs for the reception of a tool 35 for prying out the knock-outs. be horizontal, vertical, or
Fig. 1.
In Fig. 4 a slot 36 is su These slots may stituted for the slot 34,
this slot 36 being inclined through the knock-out so that the full opening through the top, while being as large as the perpendicular flash or spark the spark or flash W0 others, presents only a small opening. This would cause any to make an angle turn before it could discharge from the box.
In other words, uld be intercepted and in all probability would never find its way out of the box.
While the slots 34 and 36 are shown elongated,
it is to be understood that round or square holes may be substituted for the particular slots herein shown.
The invention provides new and novel means for effectively removing a knock-out from a wall of the box without the necessity of driving the knock-out inside of the box or deforming the knock-out in any way. The impact interrupts the line of rupture and holds the knock-out securely in position. Changes may be made in the form,
construction, and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and the right is hereby reserved to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the following claim.
The invention is hereby claimed as follows:
An outlet box comprising a body having walls, a knock-out in a wall of said body, said knock-out being disposed in parallelism relative to said wall,
an integral fin conn wall, said knock-out ecting the knock-out to the having a slot therethrough for receiving a tool for prying off the knock-out, the side walls of'the slot being inclined in respect to said wall.
