2 Claims.
My invention relates to a negative holder d signed for use in photographic printers, enlargers and the like, although it will be understood that the holder is susceptible for use with a variety of devices wherein a photographic negative is to be held for illumination or the like.
The principal object of my invention lies in the provision of a holder provided with a hinged negative engaging member having resilient cooperating means therefor whereby the same is frictionally held under tension in its closed position but which may be readily and easily lifted to permit the insertion and removal of the negative.
Another object lies in the provision of a guiding means for the hinged holder portion in its closing positions.
Still another object lies in the provision of novel flanged arrangement on the hinged holder portion ior engaging the negative to hold it at.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the description proceeds, reference now being had to the gures of the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and wherein like reference numerals indicate like parts.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View oi my improved holder illustrating the hinged portion in raised or open position.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the holder in closed position.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional View of the holder taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
rEhe reference character 1 indicates a iiat plate or base to which is hinged as at 2 the movable holder member 3. This hinged member 3 is provided with a linger piece 4 whereby the saine may be lifted from engagement with the plate 1.
The plate l is provided with an opening 5 which may be or any desired size depending upon the size of negative to be used in the holder. The hinged portion 3 is also provided centrally with an opening 6 adapted to register with the opening 5 when the hinged portion is folded down flat against the plate l. The edges of the opening 6 are provided with downwardly turned nlm engaging iianges 7 which pass through the opening 5 in the plate 1 for direct contact engagement with the negative 8 positioned beneath the hinged portion 3 on the plate 1 as shown clearly in Figure 8.
One edge of the opening 5 is provided with a notch 9 whereby the edge of a negative can be readily grasped by the ngers of the operator.
Provided upon the plate 1 are a pair of guide pins 10 adapted to pass through similarly disposed openings 11 in the hinged member 3 whereby such hinged member is guided to its properly closed position. This is an important feature due to the fact that the member 3 is loosely hinged 1933, Serial No. 692,626
(Cl. 58h24) at 2 in order to compensate for the thickness of the negative place-d between member 3 and the plate loose hinge arrangement is provided by the enlarged hinge openings l2.
Adjacent each end of the opening 5 the plate l is provided on its upper side with spring arms 13 carrying at their iree ends rounded tension lingers 14.- normally in position to engage the corresponding edges oi the hinged holder 3 when it is swung down to closed position as shown in Figure 2. These lingers la yield with the springs i3 to permit the hinged member to assume its closed position with respect to the plate l and the tension of the springs serves to rictionally hold the hinged member in closed position but permits the ready lifting thereof when it is desired to remove the negative therefrom.
ln use a support l5 is usually provided with an opening 16 therethrough for passage oi light upward. Provided on this support l5 and covering the opening l5 is a glass or transparent member 17 upon whichthe holder plate l rests and which may be suitably secured in any desired manner. It will be obvious, of course, that the openings 5 and 6 of the negative holder will register with the opening 16 through which the light passes.
Gf course, changes may be made in details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. I do not limit inysei, therefore, to the exact form herein shown and described other than by the appended claims.
l claim:
1. A negative holder comprising a plate, a holder member hinged thereto, said plate and member having aligned openings, the edges of said member around the opening therein being formed downwardly and adapted to through the opening in said plate in negative engaging position, and resilient ngers having rounded portions adapted to engage the edges oi said member and rictionally hold the same in its closed position on said plate.
2. A negative holder comprising a plate, a holder member hinged thereto, said plate and member having aligned openings, the edges of said member around the opening therein being formed downwardly and adapted to pass through the opening in said plate in negative engaging position, resilient ngers having rounded portions adapted to engage the edges or said member and irictionally hold the saine in its closed position on said plate, and guide pins on said plate cooperating with openings in said member for guiding the same in closing.
