O. R. SCIOSCIA BARBERS AND BEAUTICIANS STERILIZING TRAY Filed July 27, 1933 Oreste R. Scioscz'a I. H "WI Patented Sept. 11, 1934 PATENT-9 eerie;
BARBERS m) BEAUTICIANS s'rERIL'IzING f 'YTRAY Oreste 7R. Scios cia, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Application July 27; 1933', Serial'No. 682,499
13 Claims..': (01. 167,-3.)
This invention relates..to improvements in sterilizers and particularly to those sterilizers adapted for the use in barber and beauty shops for thesterilization of toolsand instruments.
In substantiallyall of the jurisdictions of. the.
United States there are laws and ordinances regulating the sterilization of barbers and beauty specialists tools and instruments. It has been found that unless the facilities are placed adjacent the operatorschair some barbers and beauty specialistswill disregard: the regulations. This disregard of the regulations has been-observed.
more particularly during rush hours when it is most important that the regulations be. observed.
In the construction of a sterilizer, care must be taken to make it effective, easily used and of aconstruction toreceive all of the toolsand in struments used by the operator.
The primary object of this invention is the,
provision of. a sterilizer having a plurality of different compartments, each suitable to the tools.
or implements to be sterilized.
Another objectof. the invention is a barbers or beauty shop sterilizer having a separate and. removable compartment for the clippers-par- 'ticularly of the power or mechanical type.
Anotherand still further object ofthe inventionisthe provision of a sterilizer having a sep-= arate compartment for the clippersand having two levels at which the clipper knives canbe placed above .or. below the level of the top of the sterilizerfiuid. I
Another and still further object of the invention is theQprovision of a barbers or beautysho'p sterilizer having a" clipper compartment with 'supporting means to holdthe clipper knives at either of the two levels and so constructed that the clipper handle may be in either arelativej brush above the applicator but with the lower ends oi the brush bristles below thelevel of the sterilizer 'fluid.
Another andstill further object 'of the inven tio'n'is the provision- 0f 'asterilizer having a plu-- rality of compartments includingprovision for holding an antiseptic-solution "and also means for imakin'g' a small"swab forba'pplying the antiseptic solution to cuts or. abrasions of the: skin Other; and further objects will be apparent to:
I Another and still further object ofQtheinvenQ those skilled in the art from a reading of the complete specification and claims.
Referring to the drawing wherein I have trated an embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is across sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. i
Fig.' 3,is a cross sectioal view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. if v Fig ...a is .a detached view of the removable sterilizer section. containing the clipper compartment' i 1 Fig. 5 is an end view ofthe sterilizer showing a part broken away for clearness. i
. Similar reference characters refer to the same t or similar parts throughout the several views ofthe drawing. v In the drawing, 10 designatesthe main body of the sterilizer, 11 thefbrush sterilizing compartment having the lowersub-compartment 12 for receiving the massage applicators. At the. sides of the sub-.-compartment 12 arethe shoulders13 uponwhich'thebrush rests during the: sterilizingoperation.
.At the side of the-brush compartment and in theside wall,,i s' a cutaway-section 14-for the handle ofthe .brush to occupy when the cover,- to be described, is in its closed position.
At the back ofthe brush compartmentis another sterilizer compartment 15.. This compartment 15 is deeper than the brush compartment illus- 11 and is to sterilize-such-tools and instruments asshears, and other pointed instruments, tweez ers,- as'well as razors. At-the left side; of the compartmentare shown three. sockets-the sock- 0 et'16, forlarge or barber s shears during the ster ilizing operation, the socket, 16 to receive the small shears ormanicureshears and the socket- 1'7 tof'holdv-tweezers andfother pointed-instruments. These- sockets 16 and 17 are connected to the main portion of. the compartment by slots lfi' d -m At. the opposite side of the compartmentlS are located ztwofrazor sockets 18 and 19. These sockets Band-l9. are connected to the .main portion ofthe'co npartment by slotslii 'and 19 .v The width-of the slots 18 and 19?, and the proximity of they- sockets 18 and 19 to the main portion ot the, compartment is such that the blades ofthe razorswhen in place, have their edges out in the main portion of the compartment,:15. This construction protects the razor edge frominjury and'insures sterilization. At the tops'of the sockets 18 and 19, are cham fered surfaces-which I have designated 18*, 19 and 0 dry sockets 23, 24 to receive sterilized shears and retain them until needed for use. I also provide dry sockets 25, 26, 2'7 for holding tweezers or other small sterilized articles until needed for use.
A very important feature of my sterilizer isv the clipper sterilizing section. This section is shown as a box and is located in a socket ad jacent the brush compartment and in the embodiment illustrated has a body portion 28 substantially square at the top and constructed of material which will not be stained or attacked by the sterilizing liquid, and may be for example of glass, stainless steel, hard rubber or, bakelite.
On at least one side, and near but spaced from the bottom is a projecting portion which is shown as a ledge at 28 The compartment within the clipper box 28 is or may be provided with any suitable sterilizing liquid. This sterilizing liquid is preferably placed so that its upper level is below the level of the projecting ledge 28 The clippers (shown in dotted lines in its two positions) will be seen at 29 29*. With this construction, the clippers may be placed with the cutting knives at either one of the two levelson the bottom for sterilization and after sterilization on the ledge 28 to drain and become dry.
One feature of this portion of my sterilizer is that provision is made to support the clippers at either of two levels and at the same time so that the clippers may be taken from the sterilizer in a position with its gripping portion extending,
in one of a plurality of directions, to suit the convenience of the user. The form illustrated has provision to rest the clippers on the ledge 28 which is shown as extending only across one side and in such a structure, it is desirable to have the section constructed so that it may be placed in its socket or recess in any one of a plurality of positions. Accordingly, I have illustrated the section 28 as being substantially square so that it may be placed so as to have the ledge 28 jat the rear or at either side,'thus presenting the handle, or gripping portion of the clippers at the right, left or in front at the option of the user.
Between the forward edge of the brush compartment 11 and the forward edge of the sterilizer and extending in front of the clipper box or compartment 28 is the comb tray 30. This tray 30 is long enough to receive the full length of a bar-- bers comb and is provided throughout its length with corrugations which extend lengthwise. These corrugations receive the combs and retain them in the position in which the combs are placed, thus preventing a single comb from sliding down and lying flat on its side when alone in a small compartment 32 for tooth picks or similar brush and clipper compartments.
long instruments and adjacent thereto, a compartment 33 for the solution. When the skin is scratched the operator takes a tooth pick from the compartment 32 and by placing one end in cotton and rolling the tooth pick between his fingers, some of the cotton is caused to adhere to the end of the pick to form a small swab. This is now dipped into the antiseptic solution and the cut or abrasion then treated. The tooth pick or other long instrument forms a convenient handle for the swab.
To prevent dust and dirt from entering the compartments when the sterilizer is not in use, I have provided covers, two for covering the rear or deep compartments and one for covering the Hinged to the rear edge as at 34 are the covers 35 having their forward edges extending to the forward edge of the compartment 15, one extending to cover the slots 16, 16, 1'7, 18 and 19 and the compartment 15 when not being used. The other cover, 35, covers the sockets 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 2'7 and the compartments 31, 32 and 33.
The forward or front cover 36 extends from end to end to cover the compartments 11 and 28 and is hinged at the forward edges at 37. When the sterilizer is not in use, the front cover 36 is swung forward and lies against the front face of the sterilizer.
The covers of the tray afford very convenient surfaces on which may be placed advertisements of various articles. These advertisements may be placed on both the inside and outside of the covers so that they may be seen when the covers are open or closed. The advertisements may be the same on both sides of the covers or they may be different so that a different advertising display will be made when the covers are open from that displayed when the covers are closed.
The legs 38 are provided to support the sterilizer.
Any suitable heating apparatus may be used if desired. One heating apparatus is illustrated in my co-pending application Serial Number 627,169 filed July 30, 1932, of which the invention disclosed in this application is an improvement.
While I have illustrated and described in detail an embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the disclosure is merely illustrative and that modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claims.
