Description

Sept 4, 1934.
B. LEHR DISPLAY FIGURE Filed June 27, 1933 VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Patented Sept. 4, 1934 Bur'stelrr and" twenty; 'jone-hundredths I te er r H typeset figureln whiohboth feetwererfirmlyand squarely implanted-on. the: floor. 'Twoprincipal forms. of supporting: means have heretofore been used, one; of'iwhich comprised the provision of an exposed rod. extending upwardly I 1mm the. base platetoa-an intermediatemortion of the figure which would be coveredtbnthe gar..- ment. This. however, was objectionable because of its unsightly appearance, and because it fre-- quently interfered with the proper draping of the I garments on the figure.
In a later development, a supporting rod extended upwardly from'the base plate and passed through one of the legs of the figure. The prin cipal objection to this form was that each time :1 is the dressing of the figure was changed, it was necessary to cut a hole through one shoe, which of course rendered the shoe unsalable, and as the shoes used in dressing these figures are usually of the most expensive kind, this resulted in a considerable loss.
The principal object, therefore, of my present invention is to provide simple and efficient-means for supporting display figures which will be unobtrusive in appearance, and in the useof which damage to the shoe which is placed upon the figure will be avoided.
A further object of my invention is to provide such a supporting device in which the parts may be readily adjusted to meet varying conditions,
and in which certain of the parts may be made interchangeable for the same purpose.
The nature and characteristic features of my invention will be more readily understood from the iollowing description, taken in connection 4 .0 with the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a display figure, with means embodying the main features of my invention shown in connection therewith;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating one of the I Fig.1 is-a'n elevational view of leg portions '01 adisplay figure,the device of my invention being shown in connection therewith;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of aportion of the device shown in Fig. 2, the leg portion of :th'e' figur being omitt'ed; J 130 a modified form of supporting device, the same being shown detach'ed'trom tliet-base'platef 1: v I

Referring to the drawing, loq-isa display figure, f'having ailltubularmernber ll.-extending upwardly 70 through onetbf-the legiportions 12 thereof. :The base memberilsisofthe customary form, comprisingia' relatively-heavymetallic plate of sufil- .clent-pxtensiongto prevent the figure from falling over-when itis secured thereto. 'Th'eabasetplatex I3 is provided with1a boss 14 iextendingupwardlytherefrom and having a vertical aperture 15 adapted to receive the lower end of a standard 16, preferably shaped to conform to the rear of the shoe. The lower end of the U standard 16 is secured in its proper adjusted position in the boss 14 by means of a thumb screw 1'7.
To the upper end of the standard 16 there is secured a foot plate member 18, shaped to conform to the heel and rear sole portions of the foot (3.5 of the figure. The upper end of the plate member 18 may be secured to the upper end of the standard 16 by means of a bolt 19 and a wing nut 20, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the drawing, or it may be integrally joined thereto at that point as shown in Fig. 6.
An upwardly extending rod 21 has its lower end secured to the sole portion 22 of the foot plate member 18. This rod 21 extends into the tubular member 11 provided in one of the leg portions 12 of the figure.
In Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawing, the sole portion 22 of the foot plate member 18 is made adjustable by providing an auxiliary sole piece 23 which is secured to the main sole piece 22 of that form by a bolt 24 extending through slots 25 in thesole pieces. In this instance the upwardly extending rod 21 is secured to the auxiliary sole piece 23.
In preparing the figure, the rod 21 is first inserted in the receptacle provided by the tubular member 11 inthe leg portion 12 of the figure 10. The shoe which is to be used is then placed over the foot portion of the figure, it being noted that 73,110
It will of course be understood that the body" portion of the figure may be dressed eitherbeiore or after the figure is mounted on and secured to the base plate as aforesaid. H e I I In the forms shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4, and'fi of the drawing, the foot plate 18 being detachably secured to the standard 16 by means of the bolt 19 and wing nut 20, various shapes of foot plates and standards may be interchangeably used,
thereby affording a variety of combinations. H I With the device of my present invention, it will be apparent that it is unnecessary todamage or mar .the shoe in the slightest degree or many manner whatsoever.
