More particularly the invention pertains to a supporting men'iber'vforv ready attachment to and removal from a ladder and from which a bucket or otherobject canbe suspended and free to swing in any position of such ladder. f
An lobject is to provide a support orbracket of an exceedingly simple form readily attachable to'either rail of a ladder by merely turningsuch support or bracket end for end.
Another object is to-so construct a support Yor bracket for a'ladder thatl the bucketf or other article slung therefrom-will' be held outward both from thevplane of the ladder andfrom the outer side of the ladder-rail'sothatsaid bucketfor other article will be wholly free to swing without regard to the position' the 'ladder may occupy, and even though such ladder may vabutor `rest against a supporting: surface.

The device of my invention includes in this instance a pair of legs 1 forming a substantially A-shaped frame, said legs which are preferably j relatively rigid being bifurcated at their free extremities, a hook 2 forming one of the terminal portions of the same, while a straight portion 3 may terminate the other portion as most clearly shown in Figure le, it being noted that the reisultant two hooks 2 lie opposite each other at the same side of the frame or bracket and face in the direction of each other as in Figure l, the part from which the hook 2 and straight portion 3 extend forming an abutmentportion.
In addition the device includes a member or hanger 4 pivotally hung from a stud or boss 5, forfexample, extendingfrom one side of said devicezat" itsapex, in this instance, said stud or boss projecting' from lthat sideof the latter having the straight portions 3 described. It is here particularly? noted thatwhen the device is applied to`theright-hand4 rail, as viewed in this` ligure, the'bifurcationsof the legs 1 lie 'iastride the rail -with'the hooks 2 at the inner side of such rail so that Vat: least one of them may engage over-a rung, see Figures-4 and 5', thereby firmly supporting the device from that member, the abutment Vportion before referred to resting against the front face of the ladder-rail. It is also noted that the stud or boss 5 extends in a direction paralleling the plane of the ladder, and, as shown in Figure 3, extends outside or beyond the ladders edge or beyond the rail on which the device is mounted and thereby the hanger 4 and its load 10 are free to swing without striking the said rail. Again, by extending the legs 1 or their equivalent away from or in spaced relation to the plane of the ladder the said hanger 4 may always take a free perpendicular position by gravity without striking a surface against which the ladder may rest, the distance of the pivot for the hanger from the ladder, and the length of said hanger being such that a bucket of considerable height may be readily accommodated. As an example in the use of the invention, Figure 4 shows the laddder resting upon a roof, for instance, and it is observed that the hanger 4 may always find an upright position since it cannot strike the roof surface, while in Figure 5 even though ,the ladder may lie upon a horizontal surface the same free swing is possible.
Again referring to Figure 3, when it is desired to place the device upon the left-hand rail of the sir' ladder it is only necessary to turn said device end-for-end whereupon the hook 2, which at the.
right of the ligure is lowermost, now engages over the ladder-rung, the hanger 4 naturally adapting itself to the changed position of the device and now hanging outside of .and free of said left-hand rail' The invention is applicable to all types of ladders, including step ladders, and when used with the latter type a change in the shape of the hooks 2 may be made. if desired to better con-' form, perhaps, to the flat stepvof said type distinguished from a round ladder rung.

An article of manufacture Aincluding a substantially V-shaped member the free extremity of each leg of which is bifurcated to embrace an l object, and each extremity Lhaving a hook termi nating a bifurcation, the extremities of the two hooks extending in opposite directions and facing each other. f f f 2. An article of manufacture including a sube stantially V-shapedmember the legs of whichv are rigid relatively, the free extremity of each of which terminates in two spaced portions, corresponding portions of the legs lying substantially in the same plane with each other, and the exel tremity of one of thespaced portions of--one 'of the legs terminating in a hook, said hook extendi ing in the general. direction of the opposite leg.

An article of manufacture comprising a suband terminating the free end of each leg of the member, a plane paralleling the plane in which fthe legs lie 'lying between the portions of each pair of said portions, one of the portions of one `pair terminating in a hook directed toward an opposite leg.
