Description

G. HORN Aug. 28, 1934.
THREAD TENSION DEVICE Filed Sept. 6. 1933 Patented Aug. 28, 1934 UNITED TENSION DEVICE Guido Horn, Berlin-W Bobbin brakes and thread delivery devices for braiding machines and other purposes are known in which the bobbin is kept under braking force by a special brake mechanism the braking action 5 of which is reduced in accordance with the thread consumption by means of a thread tension lever actuated by the pull at the thread.
According to the present invention no particular self-acting brake device (or the bobbin is pro- 19 vided. The braking action is, moreover, obtained by passing the thread, coming from the bobbin, over a brake lever in such a way that by a pull at said lever the bobbin brake is applied. The release of the brake is obtained by leading the 1 thread over a particular thread tension lever which yields according to the pull on the thread, so that, in consequence to the alteration of the thread path, the pulling action of the thread upon the bobbin brake lever is reduced until the w bobbin is allowed torotate and to deliver thread.
In the following description the generalterm "thread" is intended to include wires, cords, cables or the like also.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is 2 shown by way of example.
i lgure l is a front elevation and Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Fixed to the plate a of the bobbin carrier is a pin it upon which a brake disk provided with a so long sleeve h is pivoted. 'I'he bobbind is carried by the sleeve h of the brake disk c. A brake lever f and a thread tension lever a are pivotally arranged upon a short vertical bolt 8. By means of a spring is the tension thread lever a is turned in the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 2. This turning movement is limited by a. stop 1 shown in Fig. 2. On exerting a pull on the thread i a brake shoe 1' provided at the shorter arm of the double armed brake lever is pressed against ,0 the brake disk c, so that rotation of the bobbin 0! is prevented which is sumciently fixed to the sleeve h of the disk 0. With progressive consumption 0! thread the thread tension lever a is brought into the position shown in full lines in 5 Fig. 2. It will be seen from Fig. 2 that the pressure of the thread i against the brake lever f is reduced by the above mentioned movement of the lever g. The brake disk 0 with its bobbin d now rotates in accordance with the reduction 0! the braking pressure; should it happen that more thread is delivered than necessary, the pulling action of the tread i upon the brake lever I is increased again, whereby the braking force acting upon the bobbin also is increased again. i The tension applied to the thread i by the bobbin brake depends on the tension of the spring k acting on the thread tension lever g. Ii this spring is is heavily tensioned, the pressure 01' the thread 1' against the brake lever f is increased and therefore the braking force also is increased accordingly.
In the example shown, the brake lever and the thread tension lever g are arranged one above the other and rotatably around the same bolt 0. Of course, the hub of the brake lever l may be made longer to afiord a better bearing and the thread tension lever g may be pivotally arranged upon the hub of the brake lever. Furthermore, the shoe f of the brake lever I may be substituted by any other braking member. The pivot centres of the two levers j and a may also be spaced from each other. The spring is acting on the thread tension lever g is, of course, adjustable or exchangeable. The construction with levers having one bearing only is principally adapted tor light thread tension, or short bobbins respectively. In case of heavy strains both ends of the levers may be journalled. Besides, the brake lever and the thread tension lever may be arranged separated from the bob- 8o bin in such a manner, that the thread on its way to the thread tension lever passes over suitable guiding elements. I! under such conditions the brake lever is suitably shaped its short arm may still act upon the brake disk, or suitable as transmitting gears must be provided.
what I claim is:
1. In a thread tension device in combination a bobbin carrier plate, a pin fixed to said plate,
a brake disk pivoted to said pin and provided with a sleeve surrounding said pin, a double armed brake lever freely rotatable upon said bobbin carrier plate, an eye carrying the thread provided at the longer arm of said brake lever,
a brake shoe arranged at the shorter arm of said brake lever, a thread tension lever pivotally arranged upon said bobbin carrier plate, a spring acting upon said thread tension lever and urging same in a direction away from said brake lever and a stop fixed to said bobbin carrier plate for limiting the movement of said thread tension lever under the action of said spring, the arrangement being such, that a pull on the thread causes movement of said thread tension lever against the action of said spring towards said brake lever, resulting in changing the direction 01' the thread pull on said brake lever and in lessening the braking action.
2. In a thread tension device in combination a bobbin carrier plate, a pin fixed to said plate,
brake lever and a stop fixed to said bobbin carrier plate for limiting the movement 0! said thread tension lever under'the action of said spring, the arrangement being such. that a pull on the thread causes movement 0! said thread tension lever against the action of said spring towards said brake lever, resulting in changing the direction of the thread pull on said brake lever and in lessening the braking action.
