Description

E P HA S B R 0 U C K Toys.
No. 197,127. Patented Norv. I3, |877.
l l M n WIW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' ELI I. HASBROUOK, OF SYRACUSE, YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,127, dated November 13, 1877; application led September 24, 1877.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ELI PERRY HAs BROUCK, of Syracuse, New York, have invented a Toy for the amusementof children, which I have named the Marble Runaway,77 fully described herein.
The invention consists of an upright background, constructed to rest in a slightly-inclined position, and having several inclines, arranged one' above another, that extend nearly across it, so that when a marble or glass ball touches the top incline, it will run down all the inclines and fall into a trough at the bottom.
The drawing represents the toy in perspective, Figure 2 showing merely the aperture at the top, through which to drop the balls.
The upright portion A is slightly inclined and supported by the prop E, which may be hinged, so as to vary the'inclination. Its top and sides are surrounded by a border of the widthof the inclines. The border gives them the appearance of sitting in a recess. The whole portion should be ornamented to give it an attractive appearance.
The downward inclines b are arranged one above another in any desired number. They have triangular stops c at the end where they are secured to the border, which assist in giving momentum to the balls in the new direction. The inclines might be grooved, if necessary. e
' The balls are dropped through the aperture a, and they run down each incline successively until they Vdrop into the box D,y where they may be covered up by a lid, m, which slides in grooves over the top of the box.
The placing of several marbles on the runaway at once to chase each other into the box will be a source of great delight to the little ones.
I make no claim, broadly, to the inclines, as they are shown in the patent granted to S. Patterson, August 1, 1871.
I claim- A toy consisting of the inclined back board A, frame B, having opening a at top and receptacle D at bottom, provided with lid m, inclines b c, and support E, all constructed and arranged to operate in connection with aball, substantially as described.
In witness Whereoil I hereunto subscribe my name in presence of two attesting witnesses, at Syracuse, New York.
