com CONSTRUCTION Filed April 8, 1933 \NVENTOR Zaa'arzoZFP/Y BY 1 g E ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 21, i934 i, o en sra rss PATENT OFFICE;
Application April 8, 1933, Serial No. 665,110
3 Claims. (01.- 2-43) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a coat construction.
The invention has for an object the construction of a coat which is characterized by a coat back, and coat front quarters secured along the outer edges of the edges of the coat back and constituting the completecoat except for trimming such as the collar, cuffs and pockets thereon.
Still further the invention contemplates arranging the coat back from adjacent back quar' ters secured together along adjacent edges, each of the back quarters having half sleeves with the top edge connecting with the shoulder portions thereof and the bottom edge materially below the arm pit so that the sleeve may have fullness in conjunction with half sleeves arranged upon the front quarters.
Still further the invention proposes constructing each of the front quarters with half sleeves extending from the shoulder to the arm pit and adapted for connection with the half sleeves mentioned in the previous paragraph to complete the sleeve construction.
Furthermore the invention contemplates arranging each front quarter so as to have a collar lapel for use in conjunction with a collar separately attached thereon.
Still further the invention contemplates the construction of a garment as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and :accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a back elevational view of a coat constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front elevational View of the coat shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a developed view of one of the front 1 quarters of the coat.
Fig. 4 is a developed View of one of the back quarters of the coat.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
' 10 are constructed from one integral piece of ma terial cut into a blank as illustrated in Fig. 4. This blank is shown to have a vertical edge 12 constituting the inner edge, an outer edge 13 and a half sleeve portion 14. The top' edge of the half sleeve portion 14 connects with the shoulder portion of the coat back quarter. The bottom edge of the half sleeve connects with the arm pit poin't 15. The half sleeve is of greater width thanthe distance from the shoulder to the arm pit l5 v so that there is an area belo'wthe arm pit 15 which may be bent around to form a full sleeve when the garment is assembled. The coat back is formed by attaching two back quarters 10 along adjacent edges, namely the edges 12. This is clearly shown in Fig. 1.
Each front quarter 11 is formed from the blank as illustrated in Fig. 3 wherein there is a portion 16 constituting a collar lapel. Furthermore the front quarter 11 is formed with a half sleeve 17 which has its outer edge in connection with the It! shoulder portion and its inner edge extending to the arm pit point 18. Each front quarter is attached along the side 19 to the sides of the coat back. Furthermore when the garment is assembled the top and bottom edges of the sleeves are secured together and the extra portion of the half sleeve 14 forms the sleeve with sufiicient fullness to make the coat practical.
The coat is then provided with trimmings according to various designs. As illustrated it is shown provided with a collar 20 extending across the upper edge of the coat front quarters and the coat back. Patch pockets 21 are secured upon the front sides of the coat front quarters 11. Cuffs 22 are secured upon the extremities of the sleeves. A half belt 23 is attached upon the coat back and arranged so as to produce several vertical pleats 24. The coat may be provided with trimming as for example certain seams may be provided with binding piping. As illustrated the g5 seams between the coat back and the front quartors are provided with binding strips 25 which are engaged over the adjacent edges and held in place by stitches 26 which simultaneously hold the edges connected. Buttons 27 are shown arranged 1'00 upon the front quarter of one of the sections intended to coact with button holes upon the other front quarter, the button hole section not being illustrated upon the drawing since said construction is known and readily understood without fur- 1'0 ther description.
It is to be understood that the pattern of the coat may be of any suitable design and that garment made according to my invention may be either, men's coat or overcoat, top coats, sport H0 coats and hunting coats also coats, worn by women or children. The coat may be made with or without lining, with or without belt.
My garment is designed so that unskilled tailors may easily stitch the pattern around the edges without basting. Piping machines may be used for joining the edges by the average sewing machine operator and when the garment is finished it has the appearance of high-grade apparel of up to date style. r
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-
1. In a coat construction, a coat back, coat front quarters secured along their outer edges to the edges of the coat back, said coat back comprising adjacent back quarters secured together along adjacent edges, each back quarter having a sleeve portion slightly greater than a half sleeve with the top edge connecting with the shoulder and the bottom edge materially below the arm pit, each front quarter having a collar lapel and a sleeve portion slightly smaller than a half sleeve extending from the shoulder to the arm pit, and the top and bottom edges of said sleeve portions being secured together to form the sleeves of the garment.
,ing secured together to 2. In a coat construction, a coat back, coat front quarters secured along their outer edges to the edges of the coat back, said coat back comprising adjacent back quarters secured together along adjacent edges, each back quarter having a substantially half sleeve with the top edge connecting with the shoulder and the bottom edge materially below the arm pit, each front quarter having a collar lapel and a substantially half sleeve extending from the shoulder to the arm pit, and the top and bottom edges of said half sleeves beform the sleeves of the garment, the half sleeves upon the coat back being materially wider than the half sleeves upon the front quarters to give the sleeves fullness when finished.
