Definitions

  • the invention provides a floor scraping and polishing machine, in which two rocker members symmetrically disposed on horizontal parallel shafts are arranged whose lower portions are adapted to receive steel shavings and brushes and which are swung to and fro about the shafts by means of two connecting rods arranged on crank pins staggered 180 and positioned on a driving shaft located between the rocker members.
  • the steel shavings do not move on the surface to be dressed but on two cylindrical surfaces, and only a strip of both rocker members will touch the floor at a given time.
  • the machine according to the invention provides 49, for a reciprocating motion of the steel shavings 50 completely the corners between two walls, which cannot be done with other machine employing,
  • the machine according to the invention is preferably combined with a vacuum cleaner and -a device for waxing floors.
  • FIG. 4 is a-longitudinal section :of the steel -wool holder; .and
  • Fig. 5 is a cross section thereof on Aa larger 70 ⁇ scale.
  • the casing 3 contains further the two shafts 11 disposed on ball bearings, the points of exit of the shafts being protected by the packing B plates 12, so that the casing 3 is well shut off and dust cannot enter into the gearing and motor.
  • Each of the shafts 11 carries outside the casing 3 a rocker member 13 Whose lower portions 14 are constructed so as to be able to re- BQ ceive steel shavings and brushes, and each member 13 is provided with a bolt 15 to which, on a ball bearing, a connecting rod 16 is articulated which with its other end is disposed on one of the crank pins 8 on a ball bearing.
  • the jacket 1 has 9.@ on one side the two bosses 17 accommodating a shaft 18 on which a roll 20, which does not contact with the floor during operation o-f the device, is arranged between the bosses.
  • the jacket 1 is further provided with a clamp 21 adapted 100 to hold the handle 19.
  • a casing 22 for the propeller 23 is provided which rests on the shaft end of the motor 2 and draws the air out of the inside of the jacket 1.
  • the 105 casing 22 is in communication with a connection 24 to which a filtering bag can be attached.
  • a container 25 for liquid floor polish is disposed, and a conduit leads from the container 25 to the polishing de- 110 vice 26 arranged between the two rocker members 13 and having in the center of its underside a nozzle 27 which can be shut off by the screw 28 when the polishing device is not in use.
  • the handle 19 is a pump cylinder.
  • the piston 29 can be moved by the handle 39, and a Valve 31 serves for drawing in air which through a bore in the shaft 18 and a conduit 40 ⁇ is passed up into the container .25.
  • the rocker members 13 are provided with brushes for polishing, the consumption of polish being very economical, as the pump is actuated only when necessary.
  • the steel shavings are preferably inserted in special containers 32 secured to the rocker members 13.
  • the containers 32 open downwardly and contain a plate 33 which is pressed against the opening bythe springs 34.
  • a rotatable bolt 35 passes through the containers 32 and projects over their two narrow sides.
  • 36 disposed inside the containers and tted with a nose 37, and supports on the outside of the containers two levers 38, the noses 37 serving Y forv holding in position the plates 33 within the containers 32.
  • the plate 33 is pressed inwardly and the levers 36 are turned up, the plates 33 being held in this position bythe noses 37.
  • the steel shavings can then be put in whereupon the containers 32 are secured to the rocker members 13.
  • the two rocker members 13 to and fro.
  • the motions of the two rocker members 13 are accurately compensated to prevent the appearance of a transposing component in the machine which is merely slightly moved up and down periodcally, vand this movement, as stated, helps to remove the waste particles from the steel shavings.
  • the handle 19 By means of the handle 19 the machine ⁇ is moved over the floor to be worked at will. When not in use, the machine can be turned over and moved on the two rolls 20 after the handle 19 has been xed in the clamp 21. To exchange steel shavings and brushes the machine is turned over completely so as to rest on the handle 19 and the rolls 20.
  • a floor surfacing machine having open bottom containers adapted to hold steel wool against the floor and mechanism to reciprocate said container along the oor, a plate in said containers, springs for pressing the said plate towards the open bottom of the said containers, rotatable bolts disposed on the sides of the said containers, reversible levers with noses positioned inside the said containers and on the said bolts to hold the said plate in pressed-in position, a fixed stop on the stationary portion of the machine, and levers disposed on the said bolts outside the said containers, the said levers striking the said stop during the motion ofthe rocker members to reverse the said levers inside the said containers and to release the said plate.
