1 Claim. (Cl. 128--226) My present invention relates to improvements in a rectal syringe of the cascade or fountain type.
An object of the invention is to provide a syringe iof this character adapted for use with a conventional hot water bottle and designed to be placed thereon so that the user can administer the douche himself.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fountain syringe of the character described having selective nozzle parts, adapting the device as a vaginal douche or for flushing the colon, that are readily interchangeable and all of whose assembled elements are easily removable for thorough cleansing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fountain syringe for rectal and vaginal use whose flow is regulated by pressure on the hot water bag on which the syringe base is placed, by the user varying the weight of his body brought to bear thereon.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rectal syringe of this kind that has a base for supporting an upstanding nozzle and an apron superposing and protecting the base and the parts of the syringe housed therein.
A still further object of this present invention is the provision of a cascade or fountain syringe of the nature and for the purposes described that is preeminently sanitary being readily disassembled for thorough washing, will administer a douche or enema with a minimum amount of discomfort and trouble and being characterized by structural simplicity and durability and capable of manufacture at a reasonable price is thereby rendered commercially desirable.
To the accomplishment of these and related objects as shall become apparent as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as shall be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
The invention will be best understood and can be more clearly described when reference is had to the drawing forming a part of this disclosure wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

H In a toilet accessory or sick room appliance of this sort, an immensely important factor is the sanitary condition of the device and the ease with which it can be thoroughly and completely washed after each occasion that it is used. It was, then, with especial regard for its cleanliness that must always be maintained, the degree of comfort it afforded the user and the ease with which it could be employed in self administration, that I have designed this disassemblable fountain syringe having a hollow semicylindrical, base 5 with a slot 6 cut through the side wall from the bottom rim upwards to about midway and a central vertical perforation '7 in its dome. An inlet feed line in the form of a pipe 8 enters through the slot 6 as is terminally finished with an integral enlarged bulbous end 9, that substantially occupies the hollow interior of the semicylindrical base 5, in which an enlarged vertical bore 10 communicates with the axial opening through the pipe part 8. The outer end of this bore 10 is interiorly threaded and thereby designed to receive the exteriorly threaded stock 11 of the nozzle 12, which stock is introduced into said bore by passing freely through the perforation 7 in the base 5 into registry with which said bore has been brought. Furthermore, the nozzle 12, whose vertical axial passage 13 extends the entire length thereof from end to end, has an enlarged annular flange 14 between the body proper 12 and the stock 11 which on connection with the latter provides a relatively broad shoulder.
Much of the sanitary attractiveness of this syringe derives from the use of a soft apron 15 of generous dimensions and oblong in shape that is centrally perforated at 16 to admit of the passage or insertion of the threaded stock 11 of the nozzle 12 for the apron is designed to cover the base and inlet pipe and is adapted to be held firmly in place by clamping engagement between the flange 14 of the nozzle and the top of the base 5 and there serve also as a washer.
It will thus be evident that when the device is to be taken apart for shipping, cleaning or storage, it is simply necessary to unscrew the threaded stock of the nozzle from the bulbous end of the feed line and the nozzle is withdrawn, the apron falls loose, and the feed line slips down out of the hollow base allowing all four of the so-easilyseparated parts to be thoroughly cleansed with ease.
In use:The assembled syringe with the desired nozzle is centered on a hot water bag with the nozzle vertical, the base fiat and the feed line extending radially from the latter; the base and feed line both being obscured from view by the is I apron that covers and envelops them. The outer end of the feed line is connected with the bottle stopper by a piece of hose in the usual and approved way so that no mention or showing of it or or" the conventional bag is made.
Excepting for the apron that will preferably be of soft rubber or the equivalent, the remaining pieces; i. e., the nozzle, base and feed inlet are all of hard rubber material or other like material From' the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that a rectal syringe is provided that will fulfil all the necessary requirements of such a device but as many changes could be made in the above description and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention my be constructed within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit-or scope thereof, it is intended that all matters contained in the said accompanying specification and drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limitative or restrictive sense.
Having thus described my invention, what 1' claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A syringe comprising a hollow, semicylindrical base with a side wall slotted from the lower rim half way up the side thereof, an inlet pipe extending radially through the slotted side wall and terminally,v finished in a bulbous end occupying theinterior of said base, a vertical bore through said bulbous end, at right angles to and communicatirig with the passage in said inlet pipe and a nozzle having a stock end adapted to pass through the top of said base and into threaded engagement in the vertical bore of said bulbous end and an annular flange dividing said stock end from the nozzle body proper, an apron with a central perforation .to accommodate said nozzle stock; said apron being designed to overlie and
