In the operation of the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 3 of the drawing, a coin inserted through slot 18, passes through guideway 5 to the coin pocket 6, and bar 12 guides the coin to a position where it is supported by plate 29. Knob 22 is then turned and moves shaft 19 through the action of friction spring 23, bringing the segmental finger'25 into contact with the side of a coin, and thereby turning the coin pocket 6 and wing pieces 28 to operate the automatic vending or other coin-controlled mechanism. This turning of shaft 19 causes the fiat side 26 of coin pocket revolution, able coin receiving receptacle within the casing 1. Handle 22 may then be released and is returned to its original position removing the arm 30 from the position where it obstructs slot 18.

The embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing may be adapted for various sizes of coins merely by changing the cover plate 16 and by variably positioning plate 29 and bar 12.
For providing still better protection against or even malicious injury, the coin be formed as shown in Figure 4 of As shown, a comb-like piece of sheet metal 33 is attached to the side walls of the pocket 6, and spring-pressed flaps 34 are mounted on the casing 1 to normally engage the under side of combs 33.
