1 Claim.
The present invention relates to time switch mechanisms and embodies, more specifically, an improved time switch mechanism wherein provision is made for the control of suitable mechanism in accordance with a predetermined program over a period or cycle of a week. In this connection, it is proposed to provide a time switch control mechanism which is so designed that predetermined operations may be effected during a weekly cycle consisting of the seven week days, means being provided for properly adjusting the time switch mechanism for predetermined operations on each day of the cycle, the structure being such that different operations or different sequences of operations may be efiected on the individualdays of the week.-
The present invention is a modification of the structure shown in applicants copending application Ser. No. 577,192 filed November 25, 1931 for Time switch mechanism, and an object thereof is to provide a time switch mechanism which is adapted to function on a weekly cycle. A further object of the invention is to provide a time switch mechanism which is adapted to 5 function on a weekly cycle and which is provided with means for adjusting the operations of the mechanism as desired in predetermined periods comprising the cycle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a time switch mechanism of the above character wherein means is provided for affording suitable adjustments and control operations on each day of a weekly cycle.
A further object of the invention is to provide 5 a mechanism of the above character wherein the time switch mechanism functions on a weekly cycle, the cycle comprising periods corresponding to the days of the week and the construction further being of such nature that predetermined and diiferent operations and sequences of operations may be obtained for each day of the week.
Further objects, not specifically enumerated above, will be apparent as the invention is de- 5 scribed in greater detail in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation, partly broken away to illustrate the driving mechanism, and showing a time switch mechanism con- 5 structed in accordance with the present invention. I
Figure 2 ,is a view in rear elevation showing the driving mechanism for the time switch of the present invention.
Figure3isaviewinsection,takenonline 3--3 of Figure 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
With reference to the above drawing, the time switch mechanism is shown as mounted upon a standard 10, this standard supporting a switch operating arm 11 controlled by a pivoted arm 12. The arm 11 is loaded by a spring 13 and arm 12 is pivoted at 14 upon a stationary bracket 15 to move arm 11 up and down. Arm 11 may engage and actuate a suitable cam operated switch of well known form, the right hand extremity of' arm 12, as viewed in Figure 1, serving as a manual operating arm and a left hand extremity being provided with a detent 16 which is adapted to be engaged by operating lugs secured to a clock dial 17. The dial 17 ,is of annular construction and provided with teeth 18 upon its inner periphery. Supporting rollers 19 serve to mount the dial in a rotatable position about a stationary face 20. The face 20 is a portion of a clock mechanism which .actuates minute and hour hands 21 and 22, respectively, to afiford a time indicating mechanism in connection with the face 20.
Driven by the mechanism for actuating hand 30 22, is a gear 23 which drives a gear 24 meshed therewith. Gear24 is on a shaft common to a gear 24 which drives a cooperating gear 25' which is on a shaft common to a gear 25. Gear 25, in turn, engages with a gear 26- and pinion 27. The pinion 27 engages the teeth 18 on the annular dial 17 and thus effects the drive thereof. The gear train including gears 23, 24, 24', 25, 25, 26, 2'7, and 18 is of such nature that the dial 1'7 is rotated once while the hand 22 is 93 rotated fourteen times. In this fashion, the dial 1'1 will be rotated once a week and the face thereof is divided into seven segments of equal length, designated by the days of the week, as illustrated in Figure 1. Each segment 95 is, in turn, divided into twenty-four portions and suitably designated to indicate the hour of the day, as illustrated in Figure 1.
A plurality of operating lugs 28 are provided, the lugs being constructed preferably in accord- 10o ance with applicant's copending application, above referred to, and certain of the lugs are formed to engage detent 16 to urge the same downwardly as viewed in Figure 1, while others are .formed to urgethe same upwardly. In this 106 fashion, the rotation of the annular dial 1"! is availed of to effect the operation of lever 12 and arm 11. In the construction shown in Figure 1, the complete weekly cycle of operation is such that every week day a predetermined operation 110 is effected at 6 o'clock in the morning. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, a reverse operation is effected at 7 o'clock in the evening of these days while on Saturday such operation is effected at 12 oclock noon. On Sunday in the construction illustrated in Figure 1 no operation is provided for.
Obviously, the device is of such character that the initial operations of each day may be set for different times and the reverse operations at other times. Certain days may be omitted entirely and the operating times of other days changed at will. In existing structures a weekly cycle has been possible only with a star wheel but in such constructions a given. cycle of operations, once determined in the manufacture of the star wheel, is repeated inflexibly and invariably.
If desired, the clock dial and hands may be omitted and an indicia or a suitable index mark applied to the stationary dial member to facilitate the setting of the dial 17.
It will thus be seen that a completely flexible and eflective mechanism is provided for aii'ording a weekly cycle of predetermined character and while the invention has been described with specific reference to the accompanying drawing, it is not to be limited, save as defined in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A time switch mechanism, comprising a switch operating mechanism, a time operated mechanism, a stationary clock dial and hands driven by the time operated mechanism, an annular dial, means on the stationary dial to mount the annular dial thereon and concentric therewith to be rotatable with respect thereto, said switch operating mechanism being disposed adjacent the periphery of the stationary and annular dials, a plurality of sectors on the rotatable dial, means to drive the rotatable dial by the time operated mechanism with a speed reduction over the hour hand motion of the time mechanism equal to a multiple of the num- 4 ber of sectors on the rotatable dial, and adjustable switch operating lugs on the rotatable dial.
