(ci. 22e-2s) This invention relates to improvements in beverage dispensers, and has for its principal object the provision of a dispensing faucet which is simple in construction, inexpensive to make, and
from which either a solid or foamy beverage may be obtained.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a faucet having a. discharge nozzle with two independently operable valve members, one of which is adapted to expand the charged liquid under pressure to reduce its pressure or ve'- locity before being mixed with the syrup so that a solid or non-creamy beverage is formed, and the other of which discharges the charged liquid into the syrup with full force to form a creamy or foamy beverage.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a faucet for a beverage dispenser having a discharge nozzle and discharge openings for the syrup, with means for wetting or flushing the nozzle or discharge openings before the syrup flows into them and again after the flow of the syrup has been shut od.
To these and other ends, the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts that will appear from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the speciflcation.

Referring particularly to the drawings, the invention is shown applied to a beverage dispenser of well known type, having a barrel-shaped casing 1 in the outer wall of which is mounted a faucet member 2 having passageways 3 and 4, the former of which is connected with a source of fluid under pressure in the casing, such as carbonated water, by means of a conductor 5. The passageway 4 is connected with a suitable source of syrup or other flavoring liquid in the casing 1 by means of the conductor 6.
At its front end, the faucet member has a transversely arranged portion projecting laterally therefrom in both directions so that it is substantially T-shaped in form having laterally projecting arms. Said arms are provided with openings at their outer ends in which valve members 'l and 8 are revolubly mounted. Projecting downwardly 85 from the faucet member at its front end and intermediate the ends of said arms is a nipple 9 of cylindrical form and internally threaded adjacent its lower end. Seated in this nipple is a plug or block 1l which is retained in position therein by 90 means of an internal annular flange 12 in a discharge nozzle 13 threaded in the lower end of the nipple and enlarged at its upper end to provide a mixing chamber 14 therein. The upper side of the plug may have a depression therein forming o5 a clearance for the valve member, and also to hold it in alinement while being mounted in the nipple. At its forward end, the passageway 3 is connected with a transversely arranged passageway 15 which connects it with the inner ends of 10o the valve openings at points adjacent their upper 'peripheries It also connects with a downwardly directed passageway 1,6 which, at its lower end,l connects it with a laterally directed passageway 17 to the valve openingfin the left side of the 19| faucet member. The passageway 4 at its forward end connects with a` transversely arranged passageway 18 which connects its forward end with the inner ends of the valve openings at points adjacent their lower peripheries.
The valve members 7 and 8 are operable independently of each other and the operation of the former will rst be described. The block 11 has a syrup discharge opening 21 therethrough leading from the valve opening to the discharge nozzle 13. The valve member 7 has a passageway 22 therethrough adapted to connect the passageway 18 with the discharge passageway 21 to conduct the syrup to the discharge nozzle when the valve member is in its open position, shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings. When the valve member is in the closed position, the passageway 22 occupies the position shown in Fig. 4, in which it is out of registration withthe passageways 18 and 21. Mounted on the inner end of the valve member is a washer or gasket 23 which is fixed to the valve member to turn therewith. This washer is shown in detail in Figs. 9 and 10 and has two openings 24 and 25 therethrough, the former of which is arranged in alinement with the inner end of the passageway 22 and forms in effect a part of said passageway. The other opening 25 is arcuate in form and at one end registers with a passageway 26 in the valve member which connects it with an enlarged passageway 27 in the valve member, best shown in Figs. 7 and 8.
The flavoring syrups used in beverages usually contain more or less sweetening material which renders it more or less sticky or viscid, with the result that it has a tendency to adhere to the inner wall of its discharge opening 21 and make frequent removals of the plug 11 for cleaning necessary. It is therefore important to keep said discharge opening as free from adhering syrup as possible. To this end, means are provided for wetting or flushing said opening immediately before the syrup is discharged therein, which lessens the tendency of the syrup to adhere thereto, and again immediately after the syrup ceases to flow therethrough to wash out any adhering syrup. When the valve member 7 with its washer 23 is turned toward open position, the closed end of the opening 25 moves into registration with the passage 15 before the passageway 22 moves into registration with the discharge opening 21 in the plug 11. The carbonated water under pressure ows into the closed end of the arcuate opening 25 and out of its opposite end into the passageway 26 which conducts it to the enlarged passageway 27. The passageway 27 is zigzag in form, extending radially inwardly from the passageway 26 to the axial center of the valve and then radially at right angles thereto, to a point adjacent its periphery and then in a direction substantially parallel with the outlet branch 28 of the passageway 22. The force or forward velocity of the carbonated water or other fluid under pressure is spent or slowed up by battling in the opening 25 and expansion and further baffling in the passageway 27 until when it emerges from said passageway its forward velocity is relatively slow. When the valve member is moved toward open position, or in a counter-clockwise direction, as seen in Fig. 4, the open end of the passageway 27 passes over the discharge opening 21 and some of the carbonated water flows into said opening to flush it out, or wet its inner surface before the syrup ows through it. This position of the partsl is shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. As the valve member is moved farther in the same direction, the arcuate opening 25 in the washer follows the open end of the passageway 15 and the open end of thev passageway 27 in the valve member moves past the discharge openingl 21 and into registration with a discharge opening or passageway 31 in the plug or block 11 for the carbonated water or Huid under pressure, which directs it downwardly through the plug into the discharge nozzle 13. At the same time, the open end of the passageway 22 moves into registration with the open upper end of the syrup discharge opening 21 to permit the syrup to ow therethrough to the discharge nozzle or its mixing chamber where it is diluted or mixed with the carbonated water from the opening 31 and discharged therefrom to a glass or other container in which it is to be served. Whenthe valve member is turned in the reverse direction to shut 01T the beverage, the reverse operation takes place, that is, the passageways 22 and 27 move out of registration with their openings in the plug to shut oif the ow of syrup and carbonated water thereto, and the passageway 27 again moves over the open upper end of the discharge opening 21 to flush out any syrup adhering to its inner walls.
It will be noted that by the arrangement shown, the syrup discharge opening or passageway 21 is ushed or wetted before the syrup flows through it as the valve member is turned toward open position; when the valve member is turned in the reverse direction to shut oif the ow of the beverage, a stream of the carbonated water is again directed through the opening or passageway 21 to ush or rinse it out again after the ow of the syrup therethrough has been shut off. It will be noted that the carbonated water or fluid under pressure is permitted to expand when it enters the passageway 27 in the valve member to slow up its Velocity or spend its force. This is further accomplished by the baffling action resulting from the zigzag form of the passageway 27. The forward movement of the fluid is still further slowed up by the bent form of the discharge passageway 3l. By this arrangement, the forward movement of the uid may be slowed up to such an extent that it mixes with the syrup to form a solid beverage without the excessive formation of foam or cream. A finger-piece 33 may be secured in the valve member by any suitable means, such as a driving flt and projects outwardly therefrom through an elongated slot in the faucet member and provides a manually operated means for turning the valve member.
Referring now to the operation of the valve member 8 at the other side of the faucet member, this is adapted to control the discharge of the carbonated water or iluid from the same source into the syrup with full force to form a creamy or foamy beverage. The valve member 8 site the valve member 7 and in axial alinement therewith and adjacent the top of the plug ll. A passageway 35 in the valve member is arranged to connect the passageway 18 in the faucet member with a discharge opening or passageway 36 in the plug to direct the flow of the syrup when the valve is in open position from the passageway 18 to a discharge nipple 37 on the plug 1l and projecting therefrom into the chamber 14 at the upper end of the discharge nozzle 13.
By referring toFlg. 11, which shows the inner end of the valve member 8, it will be noted that it has three openings 38 and 39 arranged in the same arc, and 40, each of which leads to a corresponding passageway in the valve member. The opening 38 leads to a passageway 41 extending laterally outward in the valve member and then downwardly at right angles where it is connected with a laterally inclined branch 42 which is restrcted or of reduced size and terminates at its end inthe periphery of the valve member. The opening 39 leads to a passageway 43 extending laterally inwardly therefrom, then downwardly at substantially right angles to itself to a point adjacent the periphery of the valve member, where it is branched, as at 44 in Fig. 11, one branch terminating in spaced peripheral openings 45 and 46. The opening 40 leads to a passageway l47 which leads to a centrally arranged opening 48 in the rear end of the valve member in alinement with the open end of the passageway 17 in the valve member. Mounted on the inner end of the valve member is a washer or gasket 49 shown in detail in Figs. 13 and 14 and flxed thereto to turn therewith. The washer 49 has a plurality of openings 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55 respectively, corresponding to andI in alinement with the openings 38, 39, 40, 48 and 35 in the rear end of the valve member. The openings 52 and 53 are arcuate in form for a purpose presently to appear.
Referring to Fig. 15, which shows the valve member in normal closed position, it will be noted that at this time the openings in the valve member or its washer 49, except the axially arranged opening 48, are out of alinement with corresponding openings in the faucet member at the bottom of the valve member. When the valve member is turned toward open position or in a counterclockwise direction, as seen in Figs. 15 to 17, the opening 52 in the washer moves into registration with the opening 15 in the faucet member and permits 'the carbonated water or fluid under pressure to ow into the passageway 43 in the valve member, the branched lower end of which opens into the enlarged upper end o f the funnelshaped discharge opening or passageway 36 in the block 11, into which it directs the fluid in two divergent streams to wet or flush out its inner surface. This operation continues until the elongated opening 52 moves out of registration with the opening 15, during which time the fluid is directed from side to side of the passageway 36, and is complete before the passageway 35 for the syrup registers with the opening 18 in the faucet member to permit its flow. When the opening 52 moves into registration with the opening 15, the
` elongated opening 53 in the washer moves into registration with the open upper end of a passageway 58 in the faucet member. This passageway extends downwardly through the faucet member and at its lower end is connected with the upper end of a passageway 59 in the plug 11, forming therewith a discharge passageway leading to the mixing chamber. The lower end of this passageway is branched, as shown in detail in Fig. 1.8, to form two lateral openings with a central opening between them which is threaded at its outer end for the reception of a nozzle 61 having a plurality of laterally directed openings for spraying the fluid against the inner walls of the chamber 14 and outer wall of the nipple 37 simultaneously with the downwardly andlaterally directed streams from the lateral openings to flush out the mixing chamber and discharge nozzle 13.V The fluid continues to flow through the passageway 58 while the arcuate opening in the washer registers with the opening in its upper end, and by reference to Fig. 16, which shows the valve member at the limit of its open movement, suc'n registration continues during part of the return stroke of the valve member until the Fig. 17 position is passed. Further movement of the valve member from the Fig. 17 position toward its open position shown in Fig. 16 moves the arcuate opening 52 in the washer out of registration with the opening 15 and stops the flow of thefluid through the passageway 43l until the opening 51 moves into registration with the opening 15 and directs the fluid through the passageway 41 to the passageway 36 at about the same time when the opening 55 moves into registration with the passageway 18 to permit the syrup also to flow into the passageway 36. Owing to its restricted discharge end 42, the fluid is discharged therefrom with considerable 'force into the syrup, forming therewith a creamy or foamy beverage.
When the valve member is turned from the open position of Fig. 16 toward the closed position of Fig. 15, the opening 51 moves out of registration with the opening 15 to shut off the flow of the fluid through the passageway 41, and the opening 52 again moves into registration with said openingto direct the fluid through the passageway 43 to ush out the passageway 36 after the syrup ceases to flow therethrough. Further movement of the valve member moves the opening 52 out of registration with the opening 15 to shut off the ow of fluid therefrom and simultaneously the opening 53 moves out of registration with the open upper end of the passage 58 and also shuts off the flow of fluid therethrough.
A finger-piece 62 is secured to the valve member,
8 and projects outwardly therefrom through an elongated slot in the faucet member whereby it may be operated. The open ends of the valve openings in the faucet member are closed by means of caps 63 and 64 threaded therein and having centrally arranged threaded openings for the reception if screws 65 and 66 having pointed inner ends for axial engagement with the outer ends of the valve members and serve to lock the caps against axial displacement and also to clamp the washers 23 and 49 into engagement with the bottom of the valve openings.
It is desirable to regulate or adjust the relative proportions of syrup and diluent or carbonated water dispensed to produce the beverage and also to dispense them in the desiredlproportions so that a mixed colored beverage flows from the discharge nozzle as nearly as possible throughout the entire time required to flll the glass or other container in which the beverage is to be served. To this end, a screw 67 is adjustably threaded in an opening in the valve member and adjustable into the syrup passageway therethrough, to more or less restrict said passageway to vary the quantity ofv syrup delivered thereby in a given time interval.
Although only one embodiment of the invention is shown and described herein, it will be understood that this invention is intended to cover such changes or modifications as come within the spirit of the invention or scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a pair of valve openings therein, a passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with both said valve openings and a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with said valve openings and a source of fluid under pressure in said casing, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member communicating with each of said valve openings, a valve member movably mounted in each of said valve openings,
passageways in each of said valve members for directing the flow of syrup and :duid from said first mentioned passageways to the discharge nozzle, one of said valve members having a pressure reducing 'chamber in its pressure fluid passageway and means for flushing the syrup, ages in the valves before and after the syrup passes therethrough.
2. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a pair of-valve openings therein, a passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with both said valve openings and a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucetmember between the valve openings and communicating with said valve openings and a 'source of fluid under pressure in said casing, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member communicating with each of said valve openings, a valve member movably mounted in each of said valve openings, a passageway in each of said valve members for directing the syrup from said rst mentioned passageway in the faucet member to the discharge nozzle, a second passageway in each of said valve members for directing the fluid under pressure from said second passageway in the faucet member to said discharge nozzle and so arranged that the iuid is discharged intof the nozzle to flush the nozzle when the flow of syrup is shut ofi, and means for moving said valve members to connect their passageways with and disconnect them from the passageways in the faucet member.
3. In a beverage dispenser, the combination `with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a pair of valve openings therein, a passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with both said valve openings and a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with said valve openings and 'a source of uid under pressure in said casing, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member communicating with each of said valve openings, a valve member movably mounted in each of said valve openings, a pas'- sageway in each of said valve members for directing the syrup from said first mentioned passageway in the faucet member to the discharge nozzle, a second passageway in each of said valve members for directing the fluid under pressure from said second passageway in the faucet member to said discharge nozzle and so arranged that the fluid is discharged into the nozzle to wet the nozzle before the syrup is discharged thereto, and means for moving said valve members to connect their passageways with and disconnect them from the passageways in the faucet member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a pair of valve openings therein. a passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and communicating with both said valve openings and a source of syrup supply in` said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member betweenthe valve openings and communicating with said valve openings and a source of nuid under pressure in said casing, a discharge nozzle in said faucet member communicating with each of said valve openings, a valve member movably mounted in each of said valve openings, a passageway in each of said valve members for directing syrup from said flrst mentioned passageway in the faucet member to the discharge nozzle, a second passageway in each of said valve members for directing the fluid under pressure from said second passageway in the faucet member to said discharge nozzle, said second passageway in one of said valve members being `enlarged to form an expansion chamber for the uid to reduce its pressure to form a solid beverage, and the second passageway in the other of said valve members being restricted so as to pass the fluid with full pressure to form a. foamy beverage, and means for moving said valve members independ-4 ently of each other to connect the passageways of one with the pessageways in the faucet member for a solid beverage, or the passageways of the other with said passagewaysin the faucet member for a. foamy beverage.
6. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon, a valve opening in said faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a. source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source 125 of fluid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug in said nozzle between its discharge opening and the valve opening in the faucet member, a syrup passageway leading from the valve opening through said plug, a iiuid passageway leading from said valve opening through said plug, a valve `member movably mounted in said valve opening and passageways in said valve member for connecting said passageways in the faucet member with said passageways in the plug.
7. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon, a valve opening in said faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of iud under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug in said nozzle between its' discharge opening and the valve opening in the faucet member, a syrup passageway leading from the valve opening through said plug, a. uid passageway leading from said valve opening through said plug, a valve member movably mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the rst mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the syrup passageways in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a second passageway in the faucet member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the fluid passageway in the plug for discharging fluid therethrough, said second passageway in the valve member being enlarged to permit the fluid to expand to reduce its pressure, means for baiiiing the fluid in the fluid passageway in theplug for reducing the pressure of the fluid therein, and means for moving the valve member to connect its passageways with the passageways in the faucet member and the plug.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon, a valve opening in said faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of fluid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug in said nozzle between its discharge opening and the valve opening in the faucet member, a syrup passageway leading from the valve opening through said plug, a iiuid passageway leading from said valve opening through said plug, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the syrup passageway in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a second passageway in the valve member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the uid passageway in the plug for discharging fluid therethrough and arranged to connect the second passageway in the faucet member with the syrup passageway in the plug when the valve member is turned to connect its rst mentioned passageway with said syrup passageway in the plug to direct the iiuid to said syrup passageway to wet its inner surface before the syrup is discharged therethrough and to again connect said second passageway in the faucet member with said syrup passageway in the plug when the valve member is turned to disconnect its first mentioned passageway from the syrup passageway in the plug to flush out said passageway whenl the syrup ceases to flow therethrough, andmeans for turningy the valve member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon, a valve opening in said faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of fluid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug in said nozzle between its discharge opening and the valve opening in the faucet, a syrup passageway leading from the valveopening through said plug, a fluid passageway leading from said valve opening through said plug, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the syrup passageway in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a second passageway in the valve member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the fluid passagewayin the plug for discharging fluid therethrough and arranged to connect the second passageway in the faucet member with the syrup passageway in the plug when the valve member is turned to connect its first mentioned passageway with said syrup passageway to direct the fluid to said syrup passageway to wet its inner surface before the syrup is discharged therethrough and to again connect said second passageway in the faucet member with said syrup passageway in the plug when the valve member is turned to disconnect its first mentioned passageway from the syrup passageway in the plug to ush out said passageway when the syrup ceases to flow therethrough, a washer xed on the inner end of the valve member to turn therewith having an arcuate opening communicating with said second passageway in the valve member and arranged to open communication with said second passageway in the faucet member when said second passageway in the valve member is connected with the syrup passageway in the plug and to maintain such connection until saidsecond passageway in the valve member moves past the syrup passageway in the plug, d means for turning the valve member.
10. n a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of uid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug arranged between said nozzle and the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug communicating with said valve opening, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a syrup passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in said faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a branched passageway in said valve member for connecting the second passageway in said faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug to discharge fluid thereto in diverging directions and arranged to operate in advance of the syrup passageway to wet the discharge opening in advance of the syrup and to flush it when the syrup has been shut off, and means for turning the valve member. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of fluid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug arranged between said nozzle and the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug communicating with said valve opening, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a syrup passageway in said valve member for connecting the 'first mentioned passageway in said faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a fluid passageway in said valve member 12. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member leading from said valve opening to a source of iiuid under pressure, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member, a plug arranged between said nozzle and the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug communicating with said valve opening, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a syrup passageway in said valve meinber for connecting the rst mentioned passageway in said faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a fluid passageway in said valve member arranged to operate in advance of the syrup passageway to wet the discharge opening in the plug in advance of the syrup and liush said discharge opening after the syrup is shut off, a second fluid passageway in the valve member arranged to connect the second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening Vin the plug when its first passageway is connected therewith to discharge syrup thereto, a washer mounted on the inner end of thevalve member to turn therewith and having openings corresponding to said passageways in the valve membenits opening corresponding to the second fluid passageway in the valve member being elongated to prolong the interval of time of its connection with said second passageway in the faucet member, and means for turning the valve member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on the faucet member below said opening, a plug arranged in said nozzle adjacent the valve opening in the faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from the valve opening to a source of syrup supply in the casing, a second passageway in the faucet member leading from a source of fluid under pressure to the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug leading to the discharge nozzle, a iiuid discharge passageway leading from the valve opening through the faucet member and plug to the discharge nozzle, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a uid passageway in the valve member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge passageway therethrough for discharging fluid into the discharge nozzle, and means' for turning the valve member for connecting and disconnecting its passageways with the passageways in the faucet member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combintion with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on the faucet member below said opening, a plug arranged in said nozzle adjacent the valve opening in the faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from the valve opening to a source of syrup supply in the casing, a second passageway in the faucet member leading from a source of fluid under pressure to the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug leading to the discharge nozzle, a fluid discharge passageway leading from the valve opening through the faucet member and plug to the discharge nozzle, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug for discharging syrup therethrough, a fluid passageway in the valve member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member'with the discharge passageway therethrough for discharging fluid into the discharge nozzle, a nozzle in the end of said discharge passageway for directing the fluid laterally into engagement with the walls of the discharge nozzle, and means for turning the valve member for connecting and disconnecting its passageways with the passageways in the faucet member.

In va beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on the faucet member below said opening, a plug arranged in said nozzle adjacent the valve opening in the faucet member, apassageway in said faucet member leading from the valve opening to a source of syrup supply in the casing, a second passageway in the faucet member leading from a source of fluid under pressure to the Valve opening and having a branch leading to a separate point in the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug leading to the discharge nozzle, a fluid discharge passageway leading from the valve opening through the faucet member and plug to the discharge nozzle, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a. passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug, a second passageway in the valve member for connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug, a third passageway in the valve member for connecting said second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge passageway through the faucet member and plug, and means for turning the-valve member to connect and disconnect its passageways with the passageways in the faucet member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on the faucet member below said opening, a plug arranged in said nozzle adjacent the valve opening in the faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from lthe valve opening to a source of syrup supply in the casing, a second passageway in the faucet member leading from a source of fluid under pressure to the valve opening and having a branch leading to a separate point in the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug leading to the discharge nozzle, a. fluid discharge passageway leading from the valve opening through the faucet member and plug to the discharge nozzle, a

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on the faucet member below said opening, a plug arranged in said nozzle adjacent the valve opening in the faucet member, a passageway in said faucet member leading from the valve opening to a source of syrup supply in the casing, a second passageway in the faucet member leading from a source of uid under pressure to the valve opening and having a branch leading to a separate point in the valve opening, a discharge opening in said plug leading to the discharge nozzle, a fluid discharge passageway leading from the valve opening through the faucet member and .plug to the discharge nozzle, a valve member revolubly mounted in said valve opening, a passageway in said valve member for connecting the first mentioned passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug, a pair of fluid passageways in the valve member for successively connecting the second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge opening in the plug, a third iiuid passageway in the valve member for connecting said second passageway in the faucet member with the discharge passageway through the faucet member and plug, a washer mounted on the inner end of the valve member to turn therewith and having openings therethrough corresponding to the passageways in the valve member and registering therewith,
said opening leading to the discharge passageway through the faucet member and plug being elongated and of a length substantially equal to the maximum distance between said pair of passageways so as to operate simultaneously and continuously therewith, and means for turning the valve member to connect and disconnect its passageways with the passageways in the faucet member.

In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing, of a faucet member mounted thereon having a pair of laterally projecting arms alined with each other, each of said arms having a valve opening therein, a discharge nozzle on said faucet member communicating with the bottom of each of said valve openings, a passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and connecting both said valve openings with a source of syrup supply in said casing, a second passageway in said faucet member between the valve openings and connecting said valve openings with a source of uid under pressure in said casing,` valve members revolubly mounted in said valve openings in axial alinement with each other, passageways in each of said valve members extending to the periphery thereof and acting to direct the flow of syrup anduid from said passageways in the faucet member downwardly to the bottom of the valve member and valve opening and thence to the discharge nozzle, and separate means for operating said valve members.
