Description
G. UTLEY.
Shovel Plow.
No. 19,658. Patented Mar. 16, 1858.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
G.'UTLEY, OF LOUISBURG, NORTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19,658, dated March 1G, 1858.
Fo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GREY U'JLEY, of Louisburg, in the county of Franklin and State ot' North Carolina, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Plows; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full', clear, and exact description of the same, relereuce being had to the annexed drawings, forming purtof this specification, in the several tigures ot which similar characters ot' reference denote the saine part.
Figure l isa side view of the plow complete. Fig. 2 is a top view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a land side view. Fig. 4 is asection on line .1: perpendicular to land side. Fig-5 is a View ot' ange bywhieh mold-board is attached to stock.
The plow here considered is a combined subsoil and turn plow. It consists of a subsoil point and landside at the bottomof the stock, and ofa vertically-adjustable mold-board above the suhsoil portion, having a separate and distinet landsde to support the pressure against the mold-board.
In the drawings, B is the beam, H H are the handles, and S the stock. This last part is connected with the beam by bolt @about which it turns as brace b is moved by the nuts c c, securing it to the beam. This serves to graduate the depth of plowing.
The mold-board M is formed with a ange, f, having slots c e, as shown in Fig. 5. Bolts t i pass through the stock and secure the moldboard thereto, as shown in Fig. 4. The slots e permit the vertical adjustment ot` the moldboard upon the stock.
Opposite to the mold-board, and forming part ofthe stock, is a secondary landside, L', for resisting the pressure against the turning portion ot' the plow. vAt the foot ofthe stock is a subsoil-point,p, and in rea-r thereof is the usual I andside, L.
This implement is designed to penetrate the suhsoil and turn over the upper soil by the mold-board. Y
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ofthe vertically-adjustable mold-board M with the subsoil-point and the two landsides L L', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name'before two subscribing witnesses.
G REY UTLEY.
