The ball 8 is provided in its outer surface with an indicator 38 preferably in the form of an arrow made of sheet metal which will conduct electricity. This indicator strip is flush with the outer surface of the ball and carries a character corresponding with that character back of which are located the contacts 37.

Normally the ball 8 is located in the openings 6 and 9. The player grasps the handle 31 and pulls it toward him, thereby drawing pawl 29 over the ratchet teeth 28 and causing it to drop to the bottom of the guide 24. When handle 31 reaches the position indicated at a in Figure 2 the lever 10 will descend to the position indicated at a, this being due to the fact that rod 17 will slide rearwardly and thrust through arm 16 and pin 15 against arm 13. The player thereafter presses handle 31 quickly toward position b in Figure 2 and this will cause lever 10 toswing upwardly. Head 12 will strike a blow against the ball 8 and knockit rearwardly within the casing or housing 2 and during this movement pawl 29 will pass from under switch tongue 25 and be brought to position above the point of the tongue. Thus only one blow can be struck until the pawl is again brought back under the ratchet teeth, as heretofore explained. Obviously by providing a suitable check-controlled mechanism one blow only can be permitted by the deposit of a single check.

After the ball has been thrown backwardly as described and the lever brought back to its lowered position, said ball will gravitate along the bottom of casing or housing 2 between the humps or bafiles 5 and finally become seated in the openings 6 and 9. The number or other character designated by the indicator will be the amount scored by the player. If the number or other character designated corresponds with that on the ball the indicator 38 will at that time be in engagement with both contacts 37; thereby completing the circuit to the signal 36 which will thus be operated. This indication of the character corresponding with that on the ball will constitute the highest possible score.

It is to be understood that various changes can be made in the construction and operation of the mechanism. One game apparatus can be used by several players in rotation or separate game apparatus can be provided in a row for several players so as to be used simultaneously. It is also to be understood that any suitable means can be employed for locking the mechanism against actuation.

What is claimed is:

1. Game apparatus including an elongated housing having an opening in the front wall thereof and in the bottom, a ball adapted to be seated simultaneously in both openings, the bottom of the housing being inclined downwardly toward the openings, means below the housing for striking the ball backwardly within the housing for gravitation to the openings, and means outside of the housing for actuating said ball-striking means.

2. Game apparatus including a housing having an apertured front wall and a bottom inclined downwardly toward said wall, there being an annular series of characters on the wall about the opening, a ball within the housing mounted for gravitation into the opening, indicating means on the ball adapted to be exposed within the opening to designate any one of said characters, and means under the control of a player for throwing the ball backwar-dly within the housing away from the opening.

3. Game apparatus including a housing hav-- ing an apertured front wall and a bottom inclined downwardly toward said wall, there being an annular series of characters on the wall about the opening, a ball within the housing mounted for gravitation into the opening, indicating means on the ball adapted to be exposed within the opening to designate any one of said characters, means under the control of a player for throwing the ball backwardly within the housing away from the opening, and means on the bottom of the housing for deflecting the ball during its gravitation.

4. Game apparatus including a housing having an apertured front wall and a bottom inclined downwardly toward said wall, there being an annular series of characters on the wall about the opening, a ball within the housing mounted for gravitation into the opening, indicating means on the ball adaptedto be exposed within the opening to designate any one of said characters, means under the control of a player for throwing the ball backwardly Within the housing away from the opening, a signal device, and means controlled by the indicator on the ball when brought to a predetermined position within the opening for actuating the signal device.

5. Game apparatus including a housing having an opening in its front wall, the bottom of the housing being inclined downwardly toward the openin protuberances on the bottom constituting deflectors, a ball normally seated in the opening, and means under the control of an operator for unseating the ball from the opening and throwing it backwardly in the housing for gravitation between the deflectors.

6. Game apparatus including a housing having an apertured front wall and a bottom inclined downwardly toward said wall, a ball normally seated by gravity in the opening, a striking lever supported below the ball, an operating lever for actuating the striking lever, and means for controlling the actuation of the operating lever.

Game apparatus including a housing having an apertured front wall and a bottom inclined downwardly toward said wall, a ball normally seated by gravity in the opening, a striking lever supported below the ball, an operating lever for actuating the striking lever, means for controlling the actuation of the operating lever, said means including a pivoted switch tongue at one end having ratchet teeth on one surface, a guide extending under and forwardly past the free end of the tongue, and a pawl carried by the operating lever and slidable along the tongue in one direction over the ratchet teeth and in the opposite direction beneath the tongue.

8. Game apparatus including a housing having a wall with an aperture, there being an annular series of characters adjacent to the aperture, a freely movable ball, means for projecting the ball into the housing, means for guiding the ball for gravitation within the housing and against the wall for exposure through said aperture, there being an indicator on the surface of the ball and a character on the ball corresponding with one of the characters of the series.
