1 Claim.
Referring particularly to the drawing, reference numeral 1 designates the body of a container and 2 designates a nozzle projecting from and of less diameter than the top of the body. The end of the nozzle is inset preferably as indicated at 3 and terminates in a flange 4 which extends outwardly from the inset portion of the nozzle. The nozzle can be fastened to any convenient part of the container to facilitate filling and emptying of the container. posed in a vertical position.
A sealing disk or cap 6 constitutes a closure for the nozzle. As shown in Fig, l the cap has laterally extending sidewalls 7 which engage the inner wall of the end of the nozzle. The cap is provided with a marginal flange 8 which terminates in a downwardly and radially inwardly extending portion 9. The cap is preferably formed by stamping the same from a sheet of metal which has been previously coated with a dry flexible compound such as lacquer. The cap is pref-' erably formed of relatively thin material to facilitate piercing of the cap when it is desired to pour out the contents of the container.
In securing the cap to the nozzle the cap is first disposed loosely upon the end of the nozzle as shown in Fig. 1. A liquid tight joint is effected between the nozzle and the cap by pressing metallic disks, not shown, revolving in ahorizontal plane, against the outer edge of the cap with sufllcient pressure to roll the flange 4 of the nozzle and the flange 8 and portion 9 of the cap together to form a seal. As seen in Fig. 3 the flange of the nozzle then extends radially outwardly and backwardly in spaced relation to the inset portion of the nozzle, and the marginal portion of the cap projects downwardly around and upwardly un- 50 der the flange to form a double seam disposed exteriorly of the nozzle. In the preferred embodiment the seam engages the inset portion of the nozzle. The seam lies within the periphery of the body portion of the nozzle.
A cover 10 has interlocking engagement with The nozzle is preferably disthe nozzle by means of screw threads or the like which are adapted to engage one or more projections 11 disposed upon the body portion of the nozzle. The cap when permanently affixed to the nozzle is provided with an outwardly projecting portion 12 which forms an annular seat for the cover to facilitate the formation of a liquid tight connection of the cover 10 with the nozzle to prevent leakage of liquid after the cap is perforated.
In the construction described the upwardly projecting nozzle facilitates the filling of the con tainer with liquid. The cap is sealed to the nozzle by an outside seam which can be formed after the container is filled and the seam is so constructed that it will withstand considerable internal pressure. The cap can be easily applied to the nozzle and being formed. of relatively thin material it can be readily broken when the contents of the container are to be used, but cannot be replaced, thereby preventing refilling of the container in its original form.
Various changes may be made within the scope of the appended claim in which it is desired to claim all novelty inherent in the invention a broadly as the prior art permits.
We claim:
A container comprising a body, a nozzle projecting from and of less diameter than an end of the body, a cover, the free end of the nozzle being inset peripherally and terminating in a flange which extends downwardly and backwardly with its margin facing backwardly in spaced relation to the inset portion of the nozzle, a cap of relatively thin material having a laterally extending portion engaging the inner wall of the nozzle and an outwardly projecting portion forming an annular seat for the cover, and a marginal portion exteriorly double seamed with the flange forming a permanent fluid tight seal, the seal lying within the periphery of the body portion of the nozzle, and means associated with. the nozzle laterally of the inset portion and between e cap and the body for interlocking engagement with a cover extending in spaced relation to the portion of the cap enclosed by the annular seat.
