Movement of the rod 33 in the opposite direction will obviously be limited by the engagement of the pin 34 with the front end of the slot 29.
The rearward end of the rod 33 is preferably provided with a resilient head in the form of a cup-shaped member 36 in which there are received a coil spring 3'7 and a washer 38 which is riveted or otherwise secured to the end of the rod 33. A shoulder 39 is provided on the rod 33 to limit the movement of the cup-shaped member 36 under the action of the coil spring 37.
It will be understood that there are two simi lar clamping means, preferably located at diametrically opposite points on the flange 15, only one having been described in detail. To secure air tight fitting of the ring 20 and the flange 15, it is also preferable that one of these parts he provided with a suitable annular channel 40 in which a gasket 41 of sponge rubber, or similar material, is located. The ring 20 is provided with laterally projecting ears 42 having downwardly opening slots 43 therein, so that the ring may be moved downwardly upon the rods 33, and it is preferable that the face of the ring 20 be slightly cupped, as shown at 44, to receive the resilient head 36, and thereby prevent relative accidental shifting of the ring relative to the flange 15. The bag 19 may be secured to the dust bag ring 20 in any suitable manner, but is hereinshown as having a clamping band 45 sewed in the hem of the bag and contracted by a bolt 46 against an internal flange 47 on the ring 20.
It will be evident that the two rods 33 with their resilient heads in the position shown in Fig. 5 will project rearwardly from the flat flange 15 and that the bag ring 20 may be readily engaged with the flange l5 and slid downwardly upon the rod 33 and, upon rotation of the levers 24, the heads 36 will be retracted toward the flange 15 to clamp the ring 20 thereto. Because of the springs 37, the ring 20 will be resiliently but forcibly held in place, and any shifting of the ring 20 will be prevented by the engagement of the heads 36 in the cups 44. It will also be apparent that, by reason of the slight projection of the heads 36 from the rear face of the ring 20, any danger of wear of the bag 19 by rubbing against the clamping members will be prevented, and that the clamping devices as a whole will present no objectionably protruding parts and wil have a neat appearance.
While one embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that many changes in the details of structure may be made within the scope of the invention defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. A clamping device for detachably clamping together a pair of members, comprising a slider mounted for reciprocation in one of said members and having an abutment for engagement with the outer face of the other of said members, a manually operable element rotatably associated with said slider, said slider and said element being carried by said first member and having a helical slot and pin connection with each other whereby rotation of said element will reciprocate said slider, and means on said first member and said slider cooperating to prevent relative rotation.
2. A clamping device for clamping together a pair of members, comprising a rod slidably mounted in one of said members and held from rotation relative thereto, a tubular element rotatably carried by said member and surrounding said rod, said tubular element having a helical slot therein and having a portion accessible for rotation manually, said rod having a projection extending through said helical slot and having an abutment for engagement with the other of said members.
3. A clamping device for clamping together a pair of members, comprising a slider mounted for reciprocation in one of said members, a manually operable element carried by said member and rotatably associated with said slider, said slider having a projection thereon and said element having a cam surface thereon engaging said projection to reciprocate said slider, and an abutment member resiliently mounted on said slider for engagement with the outer face of the other of said members.
4. A clamping device for clamping together a pair of members, comprising a slider mounted for reciprocation in one of said members, a manually operable element carried by said member and rotatably associated with said slider, said slider having a projection thereon and said element having a cam surface thereon engaging said projection to reciprocate said slider, an abutment head resiliently mounted on said slider for engagement with the outer face of the other of said members, and means on said slider for limiting the movement of said head relative to said slider.
5. A clamping device comprising a base, a rod slidably mountd in said base, a tubular element surrounding said rod and rotatably mounted in said base, said element being held from endwise movement relative to said base and having a cam slot therein, said base having a slot therein, a projection on said rod passing through said cam slot and engaging in the slot in said base to prevent rotation of said rod relative to said base, an enlarged head on the free end of said rod, and means for rotating said tubular element to recip rocate said rod a definite distance in either direction.
