(C115- 185) The present invention has to do with improvements in a shaving brush assembly and more particularly is directed to a pivotally supported brush adapted to be selectively swung in position for use and in a position for non use. 'Ihe shaving brush assembly comprises a holder, an invertible or reversible brush` pivotally sustained thereby and a casing which is adapted .to venclose the brush and which is disconnectibly carried by the holder. In the assembly of the character referred to and in the non use position of the brush, the bristles o the latter are disposed within the holder andarey pointing downwardly permitting any moisture on the bristles to drain by gravity and separate therefrom, thus facilitating drying of the bristles. The moisture orwater separated from the bristles, according to the invention, is collected in a basin or trap at the bottom of the holder. It is therefore an object of the invention to provide `a shaving, brush the bristles of which maybe readily dried during the periodjof non use and thus preventing the impairment or deterioration or the bristles which generally takes place when the bristles are in a normally moist '25 environment.

The invention has for another object to prol vide a novel invertible and yrotatable shaving brush comprising an annular channel to collect the drlppings from` the bristles vwhen the latter y '30 are in a position for la'the'ring.

The invention has for another object the pro- 'vision of a holder which serves as a handle 4for the brush when the bristles are disposed in a position for use and which also serves to receive l the bristles when inverted for drying.

The invention has for another-object the pro- ,vision of a tumbler or casing removably and frictionally connected to a holder which pivotally supports a bristle carrying member.-

49 The invention has for another object the pro- 'f vision of a neat and attractive compact assembly having -tumbler means for concealing the bristle carrying member in its inverted non use position.

Further objects, advantages and features of the invention will appear as the description herein `progresses, reference being madev to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 isa View in perspective of a shaving brush assembly according to the invention.

The shaving brush assembly is generally vie-- noted 10 and consists of three components, namely, a holder or handle 11, a brush or bristle carrying member 12, and a tumbler or closure.13.

The holder comprises a circular flat bottom base 14 having the spaced

upstanding arms

15 and 16. The base and the spaced arms may be cast as a unitary embodiment of a suitable hard rubber, bakelite or made of ivory, bone or of an'y suitable attractive material or composition. The upper portionsV of the arms are substantially parallel while other corresponding portions thereof diverge outwardly and downwardly, the inner surfaces of the tapering portions being preferably arcuately shaped. The inside face of the base or disc 14 -is provided'with a depression 17 -which `serves as a trap or trough for collecting thev lare in position for lathering. As shown the plug is of octagonal form but obviously other forms may be employed. According to the invention, the upper portions Aof the spaced arms pivotally support the body of the plug. For this purpose each of the arms xedly carries an inwardly extending overhanging cylindrical pin or ferrule 2l, th outer ends of 95 the pins being provided with an upset portion or flange 22 disposed in a counter-sunk part or recess` 23, the inner ends of the pins project in. opposed recesses 24 of the plug. Each o! the pins is provided with a circular head or disc shaped member 25 against which one-end ot a helicoidal spring 26 abuts. The springs 26 encircle veach end of the pins and also cooperate with a suitable perforated disc washer or bearing 27 nxedly disposed in each recess 24 to urge the upper ends of the arms against the sides of the plug. For 4purposes of the present specification pins as 21 may be considered as a part of the respective arms of the 'holder'.

With the pins 21 j ournalled on the bearing members 27, the plug may be swung to a position as shown in Fig. 3 such that its bristles point upwardly and ready foruse to lather or from such position to an inverted position, that is, the bristles pointing downwardly and disposed between the spacedarms of the handle, as illus/ trated in Figs. 2, 4 and 6. In their inverted position, any particles of water, thereon, will flow downwardly by gravity and will drain into and collect in the trough 17.

For holding the plug in a position for lathering or in an inverted position when not in use, each of the arms is provided with a relatively elongated vertically disposed integral lug or rib 28 which are removably received in correspondingly shaped channels or vertically arranged grooves 29 on respective companion faces of the plug. In the use or non use position of the plug the action of the springs 26 against heads 25 and associated bearing members 27 is such as to maintain the lugs or ribs 28 interlocked Within their cooperating channels on the plug and thereby preclude the latter from being accidentally displaced or tilted away from its vertical or interlocked positions.

Where, however, the plug is swung from a position for non use to a position for use or vice versa, the ribs 28 are disconnected from their channels and movably embrace adjacent sides of the plug, causing the upper ends of the arms to slightly "give or move outwardly due to the resiliency thereof. In this movement of the plug the springs 26 have a tendency to maintain the ribs now out of their channels, against the sides of the plug. In reaching a vertical position, the channels 29 of the plug interlock with their respective ribs on the arms.

The tumbler or closure 13 comprises a circular .wall 30 from which depends. an annular skirt 31 having its intermediate and lower portions slightly flared orA tapering with the inside circular face of its rim 32 adapted to removably, frictionally and snugly embrace the lower or tapering outside curved faces of the

15 and 16, the movement of the skirt 31, on the holder being limited by reason of Vthe circular shoulder 33 on the base 14, it being noted, that the arms of the holder are -interconnected at their bottom by curved vertically disposed iianges 34 to increase the holding capacity of the trough 17, the outside faces of circular flanges 34 also cooperating to snugly and removably engage the inner curved face of the ri1n32.

To facilitate the drying of the bristles in their non use or inverted position after the tumbler or casing issecured to the handle of the brush, the tumbler is provided with a plurality of perforations 35 to permit currents of air to enter into and leave the bristle receiving chamber, namely' between the spaced arms of the holder.

While certain preferred' embodiments of the invention have been shown and described, it will be understood that changes in the form, arrangements, proportions, sizes and details thereof may be made without departing from the scope of t/heo invention as dened in the appended claims.r

Having described my invention, what I'claim vand desire to secure by Letters Patent ist- 1. In combination, a handle having a base and upstanding spaced arms integrally connected thereto, a reversible brush comprising a socket having bristles secured therein and projecting beyond thereof, said arms having means pivotally supporting said brush, the latter being adapted to be swung to'position said bristles between said arms or above thereof, said base comprising a relatively wide trough for collecting liquid particles from said bristles when the latter are disposed between saidarms, said brushv having lecting particles of liquid draining from said] bristles when disposed between said arms, a rib carried by each arm, said brush having opposing sides straddled by said arms and each including a channel adapted to removably interlock with a companion rib of an associated arm.

3. In combination, a holder having a base and upstanding arms, pins carried by said arms, a

reversible bristle carrying member comprising recesses adapted to receive said pins, a flange carried by each of said pins, a 'perforated washer fixedly mounted in each recess and adapted to pivotally support said pins, said member having opposing sides each of which includes a channel, said arms being adapted to straddle said opposing sides and each having a rib for interlocking with a channel of said member, and spring means mounted on said pins abutting said flanges and washers to maintain said ribs removably interlocked with said channels to prevent ltilting of said brush relative to arms.

In combination, a holder having ay base and upstanding arms integrally connected thereto, pins carried by said arms, a reversible bristle carrying member comprising' recesses adapted to receive said pins, a flange carried by each of said pins, a perforated washer fixedly mounted in each recess and adapted to pivotally support said pins, said member having opposing sides each of which include a channel, said arms being adapted to straddle said opposing sides and each having a rib for interlocking with a channel of said member, and spring means mounted on said pins abutting said anges and washers .to maintain said ribs removably interlocked with said channels to prevent tilting of said brush relative to arms, said base comprising a trough for collecting moisture from the bristles when the latter are disposed between said arms, the member having means for collecting moisture from said bristles when the latter are disposed above said arms.

5. A shaving brush, comprising, in combination a handle having a base, spaced and upstanding arms integrally connected to said base, a reversible plug comprising a socket having bristles secured therein, said arms having inwardly projecting fulcrum pins plvotally supporting said plug, the latter being adapted to be swung to position the bristles above said handle or between said arms, said base having a depression to provide a relatively wide trough for collecting par-` ticles of liquid draining from said bristles when the latter are disposed between said, arms, a rib carried by each arm, said plug having oppositely disposed sides closely straddled by said arms and cach including a channel adapted to removably interlock with a companion rib of an associated arm.

A shaving brush, comprising in combination, a handle having a base, spaced resilient arms connected to said base, a reversible plug comprising a socket having bristles secured therein, said arms having inwardly projecting fulcrum pins pivotally and removably supporting said plug, the latter being adapted to be swung to position said bristles 'above said handle or between said arms, said base having a trough for collecting particles of liquid draining from said bristles when the latter are disposed between said arms, a rib carried by each arm, said plug having oppositely disposed sides closely and removably straddled by. said arms, each of said sides having a channel adapted to removably interlock with a companion rib of an associated arm.

'7. A shaving brush, comprising, in combination, a handle having a base, spaced resilient arms integrally connected to said base. a reversible plug comprising a socket having bristles secured therein, said arms having inwardly projecting fulcrum pins pivotally supporting said plug and removably received thereby, the latter being adapted to be swung to be rotated to position said bristles above said handle or between said arms, said base having a relatively wide trough for collecting liquid particles draining from said bristles when the latter are disposed between said arms, a rib carried by each arm, said plug having oppositely disposed sides closelyand removably straddled by said arms, each of said sides having a channel to removably interlock with a companion rib of an associated arm, said arms having upper portions adapted to be spread apart and bodily move said pins outwardly to remove said fulcrum pins from said plug.

8. A shaving brush, comprising, in combina-,

tion, a handle having a base providing a relatively wide trough, spaced upstanding resilient arms each having an inwardly extending rib and a pin integral therewith, a reversible plug comprising a socket having bristles secured therein, said plug having recesses for removably receiv- .ng said pins to provide a connection for pivotally supporting said plug, the plug having channels to removably interlock with said ribs to prevent tilting of said plug, said arms normally exerting an inwardly directed pressure against said plug to prevent removal of said pins from said recesses.

A shaving brush, comprising, in combination, a handle having a base providing a relatively wide trough, spaced upstanding resilient arms each having an inwardly extending rib and fulcrum pin integral therewith, a reversible and rotatable plug comprising a socket having bristles secured therein and projecting beyond thereof, said plug having recesses forremovably receiving said pins to provide a connection for pivotally and removably supporting said plug, lthe latter having means to removably interlock with said ribs to prevent ytilting of said plug, said ribs normally abutting said plug when the latter is rotated.

A shaving brush, comprising, in combination, a handle having a base and upstanding spaced resilient arms, a removable brush comprising a socket having bristles securedtherein and projecting beyond thereof, said arms having means pivotally and removably supporting said g" brush, the latter being adapted to be swung to position said bristles between said arms or above thereof', said base comprising a relatively wide y trough for collecting particles of liquid draining fr om said bristles when the latter are disposed between said arms, and interlocking means for removably holding said socket against tilting when said bristles are disposed between the arms or above thereof.

11. A shaving brush, comprising, in combination, a handle having a base and upstanding spaced resilient arms, a removable and reversible brush comprising a socket having bristles secured therein and projecting beyond thereof, said arms hav'ng fulcrum means integral therewith for pivotally and disconnectibly supporting said brush, said arms normally abutting opposing sides of said socket and adapted to be diverged for disconnecting said fulcrum means from said i brush. A shaving brush, comprising, in combination, a handlehaving a base providing a relatively wide trough, resilient arms projecting upwardly from said base, a removable and reversible brush comprising'a socket having bristles secured therein and projecting beyond thereof, said arms having fulcrum means integral therewith and overhanging the same, said brush having means to receive said fulcrum means to provide a pivotal connection, said arms and brush comprising cooperating interlocking means to prevent tilting of said brush, said' arms being adapted Vto be diverged to remove said fulcrum means from said brush for disabling said pivotal connection.
