This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in alarm systems, and more particularly to an alarm system for automobiles, and the same is an improvement on my co-pending application Serial No. 627,269, filed August 2, 1932, with the same title.
The principal object of the present invention over my above co-pending application is to provide an alarm system especially adapted for use on taxicabs, wherein when the seat switches are closed without setting the flag of the meter to operating position, the ignition system of the vehicle will be shut ofi.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:-
Figure 1 represents a diagrammatic view or" the system with the seat and brake switches in open position.
Fig. 2 represents a diagrammatic view of the system with one of the seat switches closed, and with the meter switch open.
Referring to the-drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the usual storage battery from which extends a conductor 6 to the ignition switch 7. Jumper 8 extends from the ignition switch 7 to the contact 9 of the electro-magnetic shut-off device generally referred to by numeral 18. Numeral 11 represents the companion con tact to the contact 9 from which extends the wire 12 to the distributor l3.
Extending from the lead wire 6 is the wire 14 connecting to the seat switches generally referred to by numeral 15. Each of these switches consists of a stationary contact 16 and a seat operated plunger contact 17.
A common wire 18 extends from the plunger contact 17 to the plunger contact 19 of the meter flag operative switch 20. Numeral 21 represents the meter box and numeral 22 represents the usual meter flag which sets the meter in operation when in lowered position.
This switch 26 is specifically set forth in my co-pending application, Serial No. 627,269 aforementioned.
Extending from the coil 26 is the wire 27 connected to one side of the annunciator or horn 28 and from the opposite side of this horn 28 extends a jumper 29 which connects to the shell 30 of the contact plunger 31 (the latter being in sliding contact therewith) of the brake-operated switch generally referred to by numeral 31. Of this switch 31, numeral 32 represents a stationary contact and from this contact 32 extends the condoctor 33 which is connected to the battery 5.
A spring 34 exerts its tension on the armature and contactor 35 so as to normally maintain the same bridging the contacts 9 and 11 when the coil 26 is de-energized.
It can now be seen by referring to Fig. 1, that when the vehicle is standing idle the seat switches and the brake switch 31 are open although the motor may be operating. When a passenger gets into the cab and sits upon one of the seats, the corresponding switch 15 is closed which permits current to flow from the battery 5 through the particular switch 15 to the switch on the meter 21. II the vehicle is stationary with the brake part and the switch 31 open, of course the particular circuit will be opened and there will be no energization of the alarm 28. However, if the brake is released so that the switch 31 closes, then current will flow by way of the conductor through the coil 26 and horn 28, and by way of the switch 31 to the battery 5. This will not only result in the sounding of the alarm 28, but the energization of the coil 26 will attract the armature and contactor to break the connection between the contacts 9-l1 or the ignition system.
However, if the flag 22 is thrown downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 2 while one of the seat switches is closed, then the switch 20 will be opened, so that no current can flow therethrough to reach the coil 26 or horn 28, although, the switch 31 of the brake will be in closed position so that the vehicle can move with its brake released.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
In a taximeter vehicle, the combination with opening said second normally closed switch by the lowering of the handle of the register and a brake switch in the alarm circuit between the source of energy and the magnetic means, said brake switch being opened when the br al es are applied and closed when the brakes are released.
