This invention relates to improvements in stove or range bases, and-is directed more particularly to a one-piece pressed sheet metal base suitable for use in connection with cabinet or other types 5 of stoves or ranges. f
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an improved one-piece sheet metal base for stoves or ranges or articles of manufacture of a similar nature.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved stamped or pressed base made from a single piece of metal which is extremely cheap and simple of manufacture.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an improved base pressed or stamped from a single piece of metal whereby a rigid base is provided for supporting and closing in the bottom of a stove or range and which in use eliminates the necessity of bolting or welding in to 2a the base a separate bottom for the range and which additionally provides means for the connection of stove supporting legs to the base.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a base having a, strengthening truss which additionally acts as a supporting runner for the range or stove during'the assembly of the stove when the stove is in the process of menufaoture.
Other specific objects, novel features of construction and improved results of the invention will appear in more detail from the following description when read in the light of the accompanying drawing.

so Referring now to the drawing which is illustrative of the present invention, and in which like parts are designated by, similar reference numerals throughout the description, and having reference in particular toFigure 2 which is a l to plan view of the improved range base, it will be seen that this member' is designated as an entirety by A and is of a rectangular shape as it is to be used in connection with a stove or range of a rectangular form.
-The base A is composed of a single piece of metal or other suitable material 0! the proper weight or gauge and is made into its finished form by stamping or pressing it from a single piece of material.
Describing the base in detail it will be seen that it comprises a rectangular sheet 1 which is for the purpose of forming the bottom and closing in the lower end of the stove oven and that this sheethas a marginal flange throughout its periphery. This marginal flange is designated at 2 at the front edge of the base, 3 the flange at one end and 4 the flange at the other end of the base, and 5 is the flange at the rear end of the base.
The flanges 3 and 4 at the ends of the base are of the same depth or height; The flanges 2 and 5 at the front and rear edges of the base are however of different form in that these flanges are widened or deepened intermediate their lengths to form a combined truss and runner portion designatedv as 6 which most clearly appears in Figure 3 of the drawing. The truss strengthens the base by adding rigidly to it and it functions as a runner or support during the assembly of the stove in the manufacturing plant.
It is to be understood that in a great many manufacturing plants that the assembly of the stove is carried out on a system of conveyors and that the assembly is progressive in stages on this conveyor. In other words this truss forms a run- 93 nor on which the range will travel on these conveyors and which supports the range as it is propelled from one workman to another during the assembly of the complete range. This truss will raise or elevate the range sufilciently far off 01 p the rollers or other members constituting the conveyor to make more easy and ready access to the base in the assembly of the other parts, of the range to it.
At each of the four corners of the base and formed integral with the base flanges are two wings which form a. connection means for the stove legs. At the rear corners of the base these wings are designated by the numerals 7, 8, 9 and 10 and extend from the inner walls of'the base 105.

At the front corners of the base the Wings 11 and 12 which are formed as a part of the end flanges 3 and 4 extend inwardly over the main base sheet portion or bottomi and in separated parallel relation thereto. The wings 13 and 14 carried by the front flange 2 extend outwardly from the lower edge of the flange and away from the interior of the base rather than over the base bottom as do-the remaining leg attaching wings.
For the purpose of offsetting the wings 13 and 14 at the front edge base it will be apparent by reference to- Figure-1 of the drawing that when the legs B are attached to the front corners of the range base a portion of the upper ends of the legs extend beyond the front frame 15 of the range oven compartment C. --By attaching the legs at the front of the base in this manner a wider spread between the front and rear legs of the range is obtained which adds to the stability of the range and further provides for a more balanced appearance of the finished range in that these front legs are offset beyond the front of the range a distance equal to the thickness of the range oven door 16 with the result that this door closes flush against the stove front and with the range front legs.
To provide the stove legs with a simple cooperative means for attachment with the wings of the base the legs at their upper ends are bent or formed with wing portions 17 and 18 which are disposed at right angles to the main leg portions 19. It will be evident that the wings at the upper ends of the legs are formed to match with the wings of the base and that the leg wings are pierced as at 20 and thebase wings as at 21 for the passage of bolts for securing the legs firmly in attachment with the base wings.
Referring again to the flush front of the range it is to be understood that the oven door 16 when closed overlies the wings 13 and 14 carried by the flange 2 at the front edge of the base and that the thickness of this door is equal to the width of these wings.
The main sheet 1 which forms the bottom of the oven compartment of the range is provided with a series of openings 22 for the admission of air into the range ovens for ventilation as is the common practice.
From the foregoing those familiar with the art will appreciate that there is provided a one-piece base construction which can berapidly produced at a minimum cost and that the forming of the base and the piercing of the leg supporting wings can if desired be made in one operation. It will be further obvious that a base constructed in accordance with the present invention eliminates the necessity for the addition of supports or braces attached either by welding or bolting them into place and furthermore provides a combined base and bottom for a range in a single unit. The common practice in the past has been to provide a base which comprises an open rectangular frame into which is welded or otherwise suitably fastened a plate for closing the bottom of the oven compartment. The present invention has a decided advantage in providing in a single unit both a base frame and an oven compartment bottom together with a simplified range leg attaching means formed as a unitary partof the base;
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An improved stove supporting base and open bottom closure for use with a stove, comprising a plate having marginal flanges, flanges at the front and rear edges of said plate having widened portions providing a combined truss and runner support, wing members carried by the base and extending at right angles to the base flange, and
stove legs having wings at their upper ends for attachment to the wings of the base.
2. An improved structure, comprising a stove having a compartment, a combined stove supporting base and bottom plate, said base provided with a peripheral flange carrying wing members at the corners of the base, one of the wing members at each of the front corners'of the base extending outwardly from the base flange, stove.

5. For use with a stove having an oven compartment, a combined base and oven compartment bottom comprising a plate having throughout its periphery a depending flange, said flange at the corners of the base having inwardly extending wing-like portions positioned in separated parallel relation beneath the plate, and the flange at the front of the base having at its ends outwardly extending wing-like portions extending from the lower edge of the flange, and all of said wing portions provided with means for attachment with stove legs.
