An object of the invention is to provide a handy, convenient assembly of pressure pad and medicated disc or insert for corn, callous, or bunion treatment.

another object is to provide a pad assembly of the character above stated, which may be manufactured at iow cost and by the use of simple and inexpensive means.

Another object is to provide a novel and inexpensive method of manufacturiir a pad assembly oi the character referred to above.

These and other objects are attained by the means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

The device of the present invention relates to that character of corn, callous or bunion treating means which comprises a ring-shaped cushion or pad 7 backed with a piece of suitable cloth 8, the ring-shaped portion '7 thereof being adapted to surround the part to be treated and to receive therein a disc or insert 9 of a medicament suitable for effecting removal of the corn, callous or bunion condition. The discs or inserts 9 are not applied to the base 10 as individual pieces, but in accordance with the invention the individual discs or inserts are formed by cutting or punching transversely of a continuous narrow strip of medication applied to the'base l0 and held thereon either by means of an adhesive or by the inherent adhesive characteristic of the medicament itself. A medicament which may comprise salicylic acid and cannaba iodide, is procurable in long strips rolled or wound upon a spool, said strips varying in width from one-fourth to three-fourths of an,

has applied thereto a predetermined number of ring-shaped cushions or pads 7 of soft material, such as compressed cotton or the like, these cushions or pads being maintained in position upon the base by means of an adhesive applied to the inner face 13 of the pad. The cushions or pads may be applied to the base 10 either in a roW,

as indicated in Fig. l, or in groups of two or more pads. V

The medicated inserts 9 are formed by sticking onto the base 10 a strip of cotton-backed medicament several inches in length, and then subjecting to a punching die the base 10 with the medicated strip attached thereto. The die should punch through th strip and the material of base 0 10, so as to form the individual discs or inserts 9 each of which is separated'from the other by a space 14. By providing the individual discs or insertsin the manner just described, no elaborate machinery is required, and the user may readily pick the individual inserts from the base 10 as they are needed. Preferably, though not necessarily, the number of medicated inserts isequal to the number of pads '7 carried by the base.

In the modified form of the invention shown in Figs. 4 and 5, a strip of medication with the cloth 12 attached thereto is stuck onto the material of the base 10, after which a suitable punching operation is employed for providing a series of slits 15 transversely of the strip and extending through both the strip and the base material. The slits extend beyond the lateral edges of the strip of medicament, so that the user may readily insert a knife, or the finger nail, between the base material and the individual inserts thereby formed, for removing the inserts from their position on the base 10. The inserts thus removed from the base may be applied to the corn, callous or bunion, after which. one of the ringshaped pads or cushions 8 may be applied over the insert and held in position over the affected part by means of the adhesive material on face 13 of the cushion. It is to be, noted that the user of the improved pad assembly is not required to employ a'knife or scissors for removing the medicament from the base 10, but that he merely strips the individual discs or inserts from the base by means of the fingers, and the medicament'immediately is ready for application to the afiected part. It should readily be apparent that no expensive machinery or applicator for the medicament is required in the manufacture of the pad assembly of the invention and that the device therefore may be manufactured with a minimum of cost.

What is claimed is:

1. As a new article of manufacture a medicated pad assembly comprising an apertured base and a series of individual medicated inserts secured to the base intermediate the apertures and detachable from the base while leaving the base intact.

2. As a new article of manufacture a medicated pad assembly comprising an apertured base of fabric material and a series of individual medicated inserts secured to the base intermediate and closely adjacent to the apertures and detachable from the base while leaving the base intact.

3. As a new article of manufacture a medicated pad assembly comprising a base having formed therein a series of spaced apertures and a series of individual medicated inserts secured to the base intermediate and substantially coinciding with the edges of adjacent apertures and detachable from the base while leaving the base intact.

4. A new article of manufacture comprising in combination an apertured base, the apertures thereof being disposed in a row, a series of detachable cushion pads removably held in position upon the base, and a series of detachable medicated inserts disposedin a row upon the base and between the apertures thereof, for facilitating detachment of said inserts while leaving the base intact.

5. A new article of manufacture comprising in combination an apertured flexible base the apertures thereof being disposed in a row, a series of ring-shaped detachable cushion pads adhesively held inposition upon the flexible base, and a series of detachable medicated inserts of a size affording reception thereof by the ring-shaped cushion pad, said inserts being disposed in a row upon the base and between the apertures thereof, for facilitating detachment of said inserts while leaving the flexible base intact.

The method of fabricating a medicated pad assembly said method comprising adhesively mounting upon a base piece a longitudinal narrow strip of medicament, then slitting the base and also the medicament strip in a direction transversely of the strip and at predetermined intervals, to provide individual medicament inserts that readily may be detached leaving the base piece intact.

The method of fabricating a medicated pad assembly said method comprising adhesively mounting upon a base piece a longitudinal narrow strip of medicament, then punching out portions of the base and also the medicament strip in a direction transversely of the strip and at predetermined intervals, to provide individual medicament inserts that readily may be detached leaving the base piece intact.

8. The method of fabricating a medicated pad assembly said method comprising adhesively mounting upon a base piece a longitudinal narrow strip of medicament, then slitting the base and also the medicament strip in a direction transversely and beyond the lateral edges of the strip and at predetermined intervals, to provide individual medicament inserts that readily may be detached leaving the base piece intact.

9. The method of fabricating a medicated pad assembly said method comprisin detachably mounting upon a base piece a series of ringshaped cushion pads, mounting adhesively upon the base piece a longitudinal narrow strip of medicament, then slitting the base and also the medicament strip in a direction transversely of the strip and at predetermined intervals, to provide individual medicament inserts that readily may be detached leaving the base piece intact.

10. The method of fabricating an adhesive pad structure said method comprising adhesively mounting upon a base piece a longitudinal narrow strip of detachable material, then cutting through the base and also the strip in a direction transversely of the strip, and at predetermined intervals, to provide individually removable adhesive segments that readily may be detached leaving the base piece intact.
