Description

April 24, 1934. s. o; CLAYTOR E1 AL DENTAL KIT Filed June 27. 1932 Patented Apr. 24, 1934 DENTAL KIT Spry 0. Claytor and Joseph Y. Dreisonstok,
United States Navy Application June 27, 1932, Serial No. 619,517
2 Claims.
(Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as
amended April 30, 1928; 370 0. G. 757) V 1 This invention relates to a combination tooth brush and tube holder and has for an object to provide an improvedholder or container for tooth brushes and tooth paste tubes.
A further object of this invention is to provide a combination holder or container especially adapted to hold two tooth brushes and two tubes of tooth paste in such a way as to pair off one brush with one tube and the other brush with the other tube. i
Yet an additional object of this invention is to provide a combination holder or container.
therein so that it may be quickly and easily removed for use irrespective of the amount of paste that has been removed from the tube or of the size that the tube has been reduced during use.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide a combination brush and tube holder which will have indicating means thereon so as to identify one brush and tube from the other brush and other tube, whereby one brush and tube may be used at one time of day, as in the morning, and the other brush and tube may be used at another time of the day, as in the evening.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide an individual brush and tube holder especially adapted to indicate and hold two brushes, one for morning use and one for night use, as well as two tubes of tooth paste, one for morning use and one for night use, which tubes of tooth paste will preferably contain pastes of different compositions.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, hereinafter set forth, disclosed and shown on the accompanying drawing. In this drawing,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of this improved brush and tube container,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a top elevation of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a sectional View on lines 4-4 of Figure 1.
There is shown at 10 the holder or container comprising this invention. The holder 10 may be made of metal, such as aluminum or tin, or of any suitable composition or molded composition such as card board, papier mach, celluloid, pyroxyline, phenolic condensation products, as bakelite, or any other suitable material. The holder or container 10 has a back wall 11 which on its upper end may be tapered inwardly as shown, there being an opening 12 located in the top of the back wall suitable for receiving a hook or nail, or the like, for suspending the entire device on a wall of a bathroom.
Four compartments are provided in the holder or container 10, there being two outer compartments 13 and 16, each suitable for holding a tooth paste tube, and two intermediate compartments l4 and 15'each suitable for receiving a tooth brush handle. Although the toothpaste tube compartments l3 and 16 are shown spaced from each other by the intermediate tooth brush compartments 14 and. 15, it will be understood that the relative position of the compartments may be interchanged.
The compartment 16 is formed by a side wall 17projecting from one side or edge of the back wall 11,'a bottom wall 18, and front wall 19, and
same bottom wall 18, the common wall 20, a recessed front wall 21 above the front wall 19, and a middle wall 22. The middle wall 22 alsoacts as a common wall for one side of the compartment 14, the other side of the compartment 14 being an intermediate or common wall 23 between the compartments 13 and 14. Inasmuch as the compartments l3 and 14 are preferably of identical construction with the compartments l5 and 16, no further detailed description of compartments 13 and 14 need be made."
' The front wall 19 of each compartment '13 and 16 has a deep slot 24 providing a finger slot whereby the tooth paste tube 25 may be easily removed from the compartment 13 or 17 irrespective of the change in the size and the shape of the tube as 95 a result of the continued and progressive use made of the paste in the tube. The bottom wall of each compartment 14 and 15 is provided with a drainage opening 26 for the handle of the tooth brushes 2'7, the drainage opening 26 also serving partment 14 and 15. One tube compartment 13 and one brush compartment 14, are paired oil and have an appropriate label or indication, such as the word Day shown at 28, while the other pair of compartments l5 and 16 have an indica- 105 of compartments as 15 and 16 may be painted or iii) to permit a circulation of air up through the comenameled a dark color, such as indicated by the stripping 30, while the other pair of compartments 13 and 14 may be left uncolored or given a light color. Any other equivalent means of positively distinguishing one pair of compartments from the other pair of compartments may be substituted for the indicating means just described.
In operation, the holder or container 10 isintended for the use of a single individual and is intended to provide a separate tooth brush as well as a separate tooth paste tube or dentifrice for morning use and for night use. The dentifrice in one pair of compartments will be of a dilferent composition and be difierently flavored from the dentifrice in the other pair of compartments, the tubes being distinguishable from each other in a manner corresponding to the distinguishing between the pairs of compartments.
The use of different flavors of dentifrice in the morning and the night in this manner has a better psychological effect and avoids the present monotony of continuously using the same flavor of dentifrice morning and night. Further, as is well known by everyone, when the same brush is used for the teeth several times a day, the brush is continuously Wet and soft and does not have a good cleaning effect on the teeth.
When used in the manner, however, with a separate brush for the morning and for the night, each brush has twentyfour hours in which to dry out and become firm and hard again so that it is best suitable for use in properly cleaning the teeth.
Distinguishable pairs of compartments provided by this holder positively identify to the user which brush and which tube of dentifrice should be used in the morning and which in the night.
The novel features and the operation of this device will be apparent from the foregoing description. While the device has been shown and the structure described in detail, it is obvious that this is not to be considered limited to the exact form disclosed, and that changes may be made therein within the scope of what is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention described herein may be manufactured and used by or for the Government of the United States for governmental purposes without the payment of any royalty thereon.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
1. A dental kit comprising in combination, distinguishable dentifrice and distinguishable tooth brushes, and means for associating a particular dentifrice with a particular tooth brush, said means comprising a back wall, a pair of side walls projecting forwardly from and secured at their rear edges to the opposite edges of said back wall, a bottom wall projecting forwardly from and secured at its rear edge to the bottom edge of said back wall, and a front wall joining and secured at its lateral and bottom edges to the front edges of said forwardly projecting side and bottom walls; a middle wall secured at its rear, bottom and front edges respectively to said back, bottom and front walls; a pair of intermediate walls between said back wall and said front wall and parallel with and on opposite sides of the middle wall and secured at their back and bottom edges respectively to the back and bottom Walls; said middle and intermediate walls being of the same lesser width than the side walls and secured at their front edges to a front intermediate wall,
thereby forming two central compartments set back from the front wall and of a height and cross sectional area adapted to each receive the handle of a tooth brush; the front wall extending upwardly a lesser distance than the front intermediate wall of the two tooth brush compartments, the width of the said side and bottom walls and back wall and the length of the bottom and front walls being such that the outer compartments are of dimensions each adapted to conveniently receive a container of dentifrice, and the front wall at the center of each of said outer compartments having a finger slot therein extending from its top downward; and. distinctive indicating means pairing off one brush compartment and one dentifrice compartment and distinguishing said pair of compartments from the other pair of compartments, whereby one pair of compartments is adapted to receive one brush and one dentifrice receptacle for one period of use, and the other pair of compartments is adapted to receive adistinguishable brush and dentifrice receptacle for a diiferent period of use.
2. The structure of claim 1 further characterized by the side walls extending above the top of the front wall and of lesser width than their lower portions; the back wall extending above the side walls and tooth brush compartments and provided with means for hanging up the kit; and a top wall of a length conforming to the width of the tooth brush compartments and extending between such compartments and the top edge of the front Wall.
