CIGARETTE MAKING MACHINE Filed March 14, 1932 INVENTOH WWW/M Patented Apr. 17, 1934. 1,Q55,01Z
srares rarest series- Z 225mm CIGARETTE MAKING MACHINE Walter Everett Molins, Deptford, London, England Application March 14, 1932, Serial No. 598,822 In Great Britain March 30, 1931 7 Claims. (Cl. 13l39) This invention relates to cigarette making mathe gear box 14, and is arranged to contact with chines, and refers more particularly to the toan arm 15 pivoted at 16. The arm 15 has a bacco feeding apparatus of such machines, and further arm 17 fixed thereto and the movement has for its object to provide a device for autoof the arm 15 is communicated to the spindle 12 5 matically supplying uniform quantities of tothrough link 18 and lever 19. A stop screw 20 bacoo to the said tobacco feeding apparatus. prevents lever 15 from falling below a fixed point.
The invention consists of a device for auto- As the arm 13 revolves in the direction of the matically supplying uniform quantities of tobacco arrow once every two minutes (for example) the to the tobacco feeding apparatus of a cigarette arm 15 is lifted and the flap 11 is moved into the 39 making machine, comprising a tobacco container position shown in Fig. 2. As the mechanism falls adjacent to the hopper of the feeding apparatus, back when the roller on arm 13 passes the point and means for periodically transferring a quanof the lever 15, a dash pct 21 prevents the parts tity of tobacco from the container to the hopper. from falling too rapidly, and thus avoids shock or he invention will be more particularly denoise.

The by another picker roller '7 and showered into the separating device preferably comprises a coarsely filling trough 8 of the cigarette making machine. threaded rod which does not rotate, but is car- According to the invention the sides of the ried on springs 23 and is rapidly vibrated endwise hopper are extended away from the feeding roller by a cam 24. What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:--
1. In a cigarette making machine, the combination with a feed hopper, of a tobacco supply container located adjacent the feed hopper, and a swinging flap for thrusting tobacco directly from the supply container into the hopper.
2. In a cigarette making machine, the combination with a feed hopper, of a tobacco supply container located adjacent the feed hopper, and a reciprocating element movable periodically to transfer tobacco directly from the container into the hopper.
3. In a cigarette making machine having. .a filling trough and feeding apparatus for delivering tobacco to the trough, the combination with a feed hopper for delivering tobacco to said apadi n sa hopper, and a reciprocating element driven in timed relation With said feeding apparatus \for periodically transferring a quantity of tobacco directly from said container to said hopper.
,4. In a cigarette making machine the combination with a receptacle fortobacco providedwith means for separating the same into two comrespectively as a feed'hopper for moving I toward and across the said separating means, whereby a quantity of tobacco maybe delivered to the hopper, and a member provided with prongs disposed adjacent the said separating means to retain the bulk of partments serving and a supply container,
.asupply container, of means for moving the tobacco in the supply container and to regulate the delivery of tobacco.
5. In a cigarette making machine, the combination with a receptacle for tobacco having an inwardly protruding bottom wall forming a partition separating the receptacle into a feed hopper and a supply container, of means movable within said supply container and in close proximity to said bottom wall for thrusting tobacco from the container into the hopper.
6. In a cigarette making machine, the combi nation with a receptacle for tobacco having an inwardly protruding bottom wall forming a partition separating the receptacle into a feed hopper of means movable within said supply container and in close proximity to said bottom wall for thrusting tobacco from the container into the hopper, and a device adjustably positioned adjacent the partition for regulating the quantity of tobacco delivered to the hopper.
'7. Ina cigarette making machine, the combination with areceptacle for tobacco provided with means for separating the same into two compartments serving respectively as a feed hopper and in the container toward and across the said separating means, whereby aquantity of tobacco may be delivered to the hopper, an adjustable gate adjacent the said separating means for regulatmg the deliveryof tobacco and means adjacent 3;
said separating means and oscillatable transversely of the direction of movement of the tobacco for facilitating separation of the shreds or'tobacco.
