The present invention relates to ignition distributors for internal combustion engines and more particularly to means for securing a protective cap and the distributor disc to the casing of the distributor.
The object of the present invention is to produce a cheap arrangement, which is applicable both for the joint fastening of the distributor disc and protective cap, as well as for the fastening of the distributor disc alone in the absence of the protective cap. This is attained, according to the present invention in that the distributor disc is provided with projections which support the protective cover and bear upon the distributor casing, the protective cap being secured to the casing by holding means so that the projections are nipped between the cap and the casing and the distributor disc thus secured in position.
An example of construction of the invention is shown in the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows the distributor, partly in section,
Fig. 2 is a section of a part of, the top of the distributor on the line AA of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a side'elevation,
Fig. 4 is a plan view and Fig. 5 is a view of a' part of the distributor.
A distributor shaft 3 is mounted in a neckbearing 1, which is enlarged above to form a casdisc-Gis mounted on the rim of the casing 2 ofthe interrupter bymeans of a metal flange 7 moulded in the distributor disc which consists of insulating material. On the flange '7 is seated a protective cap of metal, consisting of two halves 8 and 9. The half 8 is seated on the flange 7, and
the half 9 on the half 8. The two halves of the protective cap are held together by two swing-bolts 10, and together with the distributor disc, on the flange of which the protective cap is mounted, pressed on the casing 2. The swing-bolts are mounted by means of pins 11 in slots 12 of two lugs 13 on the casing 2'. On the upper-half 9 of the protective cap 2 are casttwo eyes 14 having slots 15 in which-the bolts 10 can be inserted and tightened by means of nuts 16. The flange '7 of the distributor disc has in its turn also two lugs 16 having recesses 17 (Fig. 5) The distributor disc 6 is so mounted on the casing 2 that the lugs 16 of the flange lie above the bearing lugs 13 for the swing-bolts, so that these latter can pass through the recesses 17. The lugs 16 are for the purpose of being able to fasten the distributor disc on the casing 2 even without the protective cap. The swing-bolts are in this case made correspondingly shorter.
The protective cap is to serve not only for protection against material injury or. against dirt ing 2 for an interrupter, and the distributor shaftmounted in said casing, said distributor disc being provided with metallic projections supporting said protective cap and engaging said casing to provide an electrical connection between said cap and casing, and means for securing said cap and said disc to said casing.
2. An ignition distributor for internal combustion engines comprising a casing, a protective cap for said casing, a distributor disc, a rotary distributor piece mounted in said casing, a metal flange moulded in said distributor disc, engaging said casing and forming a bearing surface for said protective cap, and holding means secured on said casing and engaging said protective cap to urge it onto said flange.
3. An ignition distributor for internal combustion engines comprising a casing, a protective cap for said casing divided c'n'cumferentially to form two parts, a distributor disc, a rotary distributor piece mounted in said casing, projections on said distributor disc supporting said protective cap and engaging said casing, and holding means secured on said casing and engaging said protective cap to urge it onto said projections.
4. An ignition distributor for internal combustion engines comprising a casing, a protective cap for said casing having at least two recessed ears thereon, a distributor disc, a rotary distributor piece mounted in said casing, a metal flange moulded in said distributor disc to form a bearing surface for said'prct'ective cap and at least two swing bolts revolubly mounted on said casing and engaging the recessed ears insaid protecting cap to urge said cap onto said flange and said flange onto said casing.
5. An ignition distributor for internal combustion engines comprising a. casing, a metallic protective and electrical shielding cap for said casing having at least two recessed ears thereon, a distributor disc, a rotating distributor piece, an
annular metal flange secured to said distributor
