Description

April 3, 1934. EN 1,953,707
CHECK HOLDER Filed Oct. 20, 1935 are formed to provide a chamber which is for attracting the armature 16, thereby withno UNITED STATES PATENT? OFFICE CHECK HOLDER Roy B. French, Superior, W. Va.
Original application June 1, 1933, Serial No. 673,916. Divided and this application October 20, 1933, Serial No. 694,463
4 Claims. (CI. -45) The present invention relates to new and useopen at the bottom of the casing 1, said chamful improvements in check holders for use on her 10 being divided into compartments by the mine cars and is a division of my co-pending plate 7. application Serial No. 673,916, filed June 1, 1933. On the lower portion of the plate 7 a trans- 5 The primary object of the present invention verse boss 11 is provided which, if desired, may 0 is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set be integral with the plate '7. Mounted on the forth, a check holder for mine cars embodying boss 11 for operation in the outer compartment a novel construction, combination and arrangeof the chamber 10 is a resilient latch 12 having ment of parts through the medium of which the mounted on its upper end portion a head 13 10 use of a sufficiently strong magnet is necessiwhich is operable in an opening 14 provided tated for releasing the check. therefor in the plate 7. The head 13 is beveled,
Other objects of the invention are to provide as illustrated to advantage in Figure 3 of the a check holder of the aforementioned character drawing, and said head includes an integral, which will be comparatively simple in constructhreaded shank 15 which extends through the 15 tion, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable resilient latch 12. Threadedly mounted on the 7 in use, compact and which may be manufactured shank 15 is an armature 16. The reference nuat low cost. meral 17 designates a spacing washer which is All of the foregoing and still further objects mounted between the armature l6 and the latch and advantages of the invention will become ap- 12. The check invention. 18 is further provided with an opening 20 in Figure 2 is a view in bottom plan thereof. its lower portion, the purpose of which will be Figure 3 is a view in vertical section through presently set forth. Projecting from the oppo- 30 the check holder, taken substantially on the line site faces of the check 18 are guards 21 which 33 of Figure 1. prevent the insertion of an instrument in the Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional View, taken holder by unauthorized persons for disengaging substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1. the head 13 and thereby releasing the check. The beveled head 13 normally projects through Referring now to the drawing in detail, it the opening 14 in the partition plate 7 into the will be seen that the embodiment of the presinner compartment of the chamber 10. As illusent invention which has been illustrated comtrated to advantage n Fgure 4 of the drawing, 45 prises a casing which is designated generally by the head 13 is formed to provide side shoulders the reference numeral 1, said casing including which bear against the front face of the partition a back plate 2 having apertured ears 3 proplate 7. jecting therefrom which accommodate securing The check 18 is slid upwardly in the casing 1 elements 4 for mounting the holder on a mine between the partition plate 7 and the plate 8, the car, a portion of which is indicated at 5. beveled head 13 being forced forwardly and then The casing 1 further includes a front plate 6 snapping into the slot 19 of the check. It will and intermediate plates '7 and 8 which are sethus be seen that the check 18 is positively locked cured on the back plate 2 of said casing through in the holder. To release the check, a suitable the medium of screws 9. The plates 6 and 8 magnet is engaged with the front of the casing 1 drawing the head 13 from the slot 19 for permitting the check to fall by gravity out of the holder. Should the check, for any reason, fail to drop by gravity out of the holder when the head 13 is disengaged from the slot 19, the removal of the check may be conveniently accomplished by inserting a suitable instrument in the opening 20 through the notches or recesses 23 and 24 of the casing 1.
It is believed that the many advantages of a check holder constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
l, A check holder comprising a casing having a chamber therein for the reception of a check and including a partition plate dividing the chamber into compartments, said plate having an opening therein, a resilient latch mounted on the plate and operable in one of the compartments, the other compartment being for the reception of the check, a beveled head mounted on the resilient latch and operable through the opening for engagement with the check, and an armature mounted on the resilient latch and constituting magnetic force responsive means for actuating the latch for disengaging the head from the check.
2. A check holder comprising a casing having a chamber therein and including a partition plate dividing the chamber into compartments, one of the compartments being for the reception of a check, the plate having an opening therein, a resilient latch mounted on the plate in the other compartment, a beveled head mounted on the resilient latch and operable in the opening for engagement with the check, said head including a threaded shank projecting through the latch, and an armature mounted on the shank and constituting magnetic force responsive means for actuating the latch for disengaging the head from the check.
3. In combination, a check, a check holder comprising a casing having a chamber therein for the reception of the check and including magnetic force responsive means for releasably securing the check in said casing, and guard means on the check for preventing the insertion of an object to release said force responsive means when the check is in locked position in the casing.
4. In combination, a check holder comprising a casing, a check removably mounted in the casing, magnetic force responsive means engageable with the check for releasably securing said check in the casing and guards on the check for preventing the insertion of an object to release said force responsive means when the check is in locked position in the casing.
